Trump Was the Big Winner of the Democratic Debate in Nevada

The Democratic candidates did a good job of tearing each other up while completely avoiding their number one target, Donald Trump. He came out of the debate virtually unscathed. There was nothing on:

  • foreign policy
  • Trump's attacks on the justice sytem
  • The conduct of the Senate during the so called impeachment trial
  • on the national debt
  • Trump's trade wars
  • etc.

Every candidate should have taken the time to explain why we need to defeat Trump and how they're going to do it. We instead have Donald Trump sitting in the White House with a big smile on his face, because his chances of getting re-elected shot up last night.

Thank you Dems for proving how stupid you can be.

I thought Warren was fantastic and I truly appreciated her takedown of  Bloomberg and his non disclosure agreements with women he allegedly harassed.

But even more, I appreciated her coming to Amy Klobuchar's defense over forgetting the name of the Mexican President.

She has class.

I just saw Elizabeth Warren on The View. She picked up where she left off last night.

She said "I'm sure Michael Bloomberg will spend another $100 million on ads to make people forget about last night's Debate."

Bloomberg has been unapologetic about spending his $$$ ("I'm not asking for your money") and that he is willing to spend it to defeat IMPOTUS.

Remember the Republican debates when IMPOTUS was attacked and poked fun at by the likes of Cruz and Paul?  Look what ultimately happened.  Who knows how this will play out?  No secret Bloomberg does not like debates and not his strong point.

As Super Tuesday looms, I have a couple of favorites and Bloomberg is not at the top of the list.  However, in the red county where I live in the blue state of VA, the Democrats I've talked to are liking Mike.  But he and Tom Steyer have outspent everyone, including IMPOTUS, on advertising in VA.  It is obvious too.  All I've seen are Mike and Tom.

I too saw some of Warren on The view. She is definitely in attack mode, having said that I think if this happens again, if I were Bloomberg I tell everyone on stage, if we keep doing this, we are going to re elect Trump, and I don't know about you, that is the LAST thing I want to do, and just leave it at that.

I don't know what  millionaire  Liz  Warren thinks she'll gain by being so angry at  self-made billionaire Bloomberg cause he's financing his own campaign while she begs for donations.   People  on line  who live or lived in NY claim  she was also   committing a bit of slander in her rants against him by repeating right wing and Putin's Russian lies and retorek.   . Warren ought to worry about a socialist.

I think Bloomberg deserves to be vetted like any other candidate. Warren went after him because she is at a point that is make or break for her campaign. I do think that Bloomberg needs to respond to her accusations (misogyny) to take care of any doubts of women voters, just the same as he did for black voters over stop and frisk. He (Bloomberg) is getting more support from influential black leaders, now, and has poured millions into restoration projects for black neighborhoods. Was that enough? I don't know. There are some that want to see more contrition.

Bloomberg seems to have a lot of support coming from white males, and older white males, like Trump supporters. His strength is on the economy, and he certainly knows how to hit Trump where it hurts the most. But I'm not sure if any suburban soccer moms are with him. Soccer moms may be more inclined to vote Warren or Biden or someone else (?).

I am backtracking, and have decided to give Warren another chance. I thought she was going a little too far left for me, but then I look at her record. She was the leader responsible for creating the CFPB that has been decimated under Trump. It is in desparate need of restoration. She can fix that. She has worked hard on women's issues, immigration issues, climate change, and fought for labor and workers rights.

She most recently voted FOR the USMCA trade agreement after several amendments from D's were added to the bill. She did the common sense thing, and voted FOR the best bill she could get. This agreement was of critical importance here in Texas for labor and small business that rely heavily on trade with Mexico. Sanders voted AGAINST it. In my opionion, that shows Warren is capable of negotiating the best deals she can get out of Congress ( like health care ), instead of taking the all-or-nothing approach that is reflected heavily in Sanders' record.

At this point, I'm waiting to see how things go in Nevada and SC. A candidate needs as least 15% to qualify for delegates.

no one running is perfect. Every candidate probably has something they wish they wouldn't have said or done, and now regrets it. We cannot afford to be too nit picky in this election, in my opinion. Just my 2 cents.

As is Bernie's who has consistently ran as an Independent and is considered a Democratic Socialist.

One thing is apparent, Bloomberg is running against Trump, not particularly the other candidates which should be a plus.  In my opinion, Bloomberg is the one who can defeat Trump...on an equal footing.  It is immaterial to me if Bloomberg is a billionaire since he earned it, instead of receiving it on a silver platter.

On that, we agree, with only one caveat. Bloomberg will have to make a better showing in the debates. I have no doubts that he can dish it out when it comes to Trump. No one knows Trump better than Bloomberg. But he has to be prepared for the incoming, as well.

I can see him winning over male voters, but I think he's got to convince women voters that he's not a mysogonist, like Trump. He's poured millions into PP, for example. He needs women surrogates, as well.

Personally I think debates are a waste of time as they prove nothing.  I look at how the candidates present themselves overall in their campaigns.  I prefer to observe them in the long run and go on their backgronds.  Additionally observations of their expressions and demeanor under fire.

I like the way Bloomberg is going against Trump instead of other candidates.

Well, keeping an eye on all the Dem candidates, I do like most of them, and feel that most are competent leaders.
But, my criteria has narrowed a lot...

who can beat trump!

If trump is not defeated, the candidates can talk about all the great programs that they want, but none will ever happen if trump is re-elected...there needs to be more focus...

Who can beat trump?

I watched for two whole minutes and turned it off.    A bunch of  cannibals eating their own instead of  the red meat of  Donald T RUMP.

Liz Warren is angry cause she's losing....I'm glad she is now ..who wants another angry prez.      Bernie the millionaire 3 x over is critical of a billionaire..how weird is that.     Plus   Bernie has some  garbage to tote around like his covering up his wife's dirty business in VT.   .   Amy had to throw in some prepared jabs.    Well Joe had to put his 2 cents in there.....he's probably going to lose to the socialist but he seems fine with it.

Perhaps, Bloomberg expected to answer hard questions but  didn't expect such a vicious attack and expected logically   to be discussing how to beat T RUMP.

Morning Joe and his commentators agreed that TRUMP WON THE DEBATE.  Donny Deutsch said if the socialist gets nominated Trump will win.....too many won't vote for a socialist and many political strategist agree.

Democrats know how to lose an election.

Was not impressed with this debate, Dems just threw darts at each other, did not really talk about the real issues such as being united in how to defeat trump or trump's criminality. It was a circus, not a real debate. I in large part blame MSNBC and the moderators line of questioning, which was terrible.

And we will see very shortly whether Bloomberg is a wallflower, shirks issues, or a quick study...the whole debate seemed more like a fraternity initiation!

And Welcome back TxG!

Debates are just a platform for candidates to throw darts at each other.  The best way to judge them is by objective observation overall.  And by asking which one could realistically beat Trump in November.  Lessons should have been learned from 2016.

I agree. I remember the debates log ago and today they have lost sanity. They used to actually debate issues, now they simply attack.

Yep, we should learn from 2016. Everyone needs to get behind the person that wins the Democratic primary and vote for him/her or trump will surely get elected again.

But we also should examine that winner has the qualifications to actually go up against Trump and win...instead of the criteria used in selecting the nominee in 2016.

I watched the entire debate, and was really surprised at how it got so out of control. The moderators seemed to just let it go. And they are supposedly the most liberal channel? What were they thinking? That was hardly the best way to present your candidates. Trump must have thoroughly enjoyed it.

Warren definitely helped herself, and it is being reported that she raked in a cool 5m today. Biden had is best showing to date. Buttigieg remains Mr Cool, calm and collected, the most personable IMO.

Bloomberg ads are running here constantly. Then today, a flood of ads from Tom Steyer appeared out of nowhere. If America needs a billionaire, why not Tom Steyer? Seems like a decent, level headed guy. Problem is, he hasn't polled well here at all. Sanders ads also showed up today. But not so much from the others, even Biden ads have been scarce.

Had hoped to make up my mind, but still undecided. My mail in ballot is marked for everything except president. The D's just don't have a candidate with that wow factor, or the charisma of a Barack Obama or JFK. I'd say Buttigieg is the closest in that department.

I agree, the Moderators let it get a little out of hand. I also agree about Tom Steyers, I have liked him since he first announced running, he just never got a lot or traction. I definitely like him more than Bloomberg.

I remember Warren defended Klobuchar for not knowing who the President of Mexico is. I sort of recall Warren attacking Klobuchar later on some issue. I'll have to look it up which issue.

But getting back to the Mexican President question. Klobuchar has worked on many issues concerning Mexico, so it surprised me she couldn't just rattle it off.

By asking that question, the Mexican journalist was making a point how countries just south of our country, even touching our border, are viewed by Americans - and American leaders.

Let me ask people here. ..

Who is the leader of France?

The leader of Germany?

Canada?

Israel?

The UK?

Russia?

Japan?

China?

We can go on. But our neighbor who borders us in the South, most Americans don't know. I guess we don't consider them important. To the Hispanic community, not being able to answer that question is revealing.

If she didn't know the salient issues facing Mexico, or the scope or significance of our economic interdependence with that country, I'd be concerned. But a name slipping her mind? It's embarrassing but I don't think it's reflective of whether Mexico is important to her or not, at least not in this isolated instance.

I'm no member of Congress but I can easily name the leaders of these countries and more...

North Korea?

I guess I shouldn't expect members of Congress to know the leaders of the two countries that border us. It's revealing.

Of course Trump was the big winner.  The candidates continue to be busy attacking each other, as usual, rather than Trump...he's the one they need to defeat.
