@mickstuder

Here is the actual report from the IG

https://www.oig.dhs.gov/sites/default/files/assets/2018-12/OIG-19-13-Nov18.pdf

Even with all the mess up's, they are giving the CBP until the end of March 2019 to rectify their oversite and get this contract on the right track - maybe, hopefully.

just another government misstep, yes, it is costing us money -like when the firms hired to design the Marketplaces (FFS and some of the state's own) of Obamacare - turned into a ton of law suits against the companies involved.

All contractors are only as good as their continuing oversite in what they are suppose to do, how they do it and the promised results.  Like that in the private sector and government too - you contract for something, they don't deliver in a timely manner and then you sue them to recoup some of what was paid or void the contract.

Repeat - Rinse.

This company evidently has a lot of government contracts - dating back to 2001.

Wonder if there is any government database that rates these type of contractors?

Personally, I think we give them too many chances - they should know what they are doing and have a good and detailed plan BEFORE the contract is finalized and work begins.

Don't know if this will be the case here but many times government just pays for cost overruns or a certain % is built into the contract - So perhaps we spoil these contractors in thinking they can actually get more so what difference does the contract state.

I agree that all these various Depts in government need to do a much better job in planning, oversite and performance and money watching.  I'd say that perhaps we should just hire our own government (whatever) to take care of Personel, IT, etc. But as we can see in other government departments when the Personel is their own even when they do a poor job - government finds it hard to get rid of them.

So Trump owns this one just like Obama owned the marketplace launch misstep  - but why do we even have to keep score, seems the problem needs to be rectified by better people in government keeping tabs of what's going on - regardless of Administration - Oh, well - the way of politics.

oh my...but they were THE BESTEST APPLICANTS - EVER!....smell the burning cash and oh please ignore where the business headquarters is located.    Dumb for the US Gov to allow that, but this is donald's world, so hiding cash is apparently approved.

Trump Administration Paid Firm Nearly $14 Million For Just 2 New Recruits

And the company used government resources to do even that, concludes Homeland Security’s inspector general.

The Trump administration paid an astonishing $13.6 million to an outside contractor this year to increase border protection staffing, but that effort has resulted in only two new job offers, according to a scathing report by a federal watchdog that called for “immediate” action to rectify “serious performance issues.”

U.S. Customs and Border Protection granted Accenture Federal Services — a subsidiary of the global Accenture consulting company headquartered in the tax haven of Dublin — a $297 million contract last year to boost staffing by thousands in the wake of President Donald Trump’s crackdown on the border and immigration.

The company is “nowhere near satisfying its 7,500-person hiring goal over the next 5 years,” declared the report, which was released last week by the inspector general of the Department of Homeland Security. “Further, CBP has used significant staffing and resources to help Accenture do the job for which it was contracted. As such, we are concerned that CBP may have paid Accenture for services and tools not provided.”

CBP “risks wasting millions of taxpayer dollars on a hastily approved contract that is not meeting its proposed performance expectations,” the report concluded.

The firm has already been paid $13.6 million. But when the inspector general audited the company’s actions, it discovered that as of Oct. 1 — more than 10 months into the contract — Accenture had successfully processed only two accepted job offers. In addition, it did so largely using CBP resources instead of its own, the report said.

The government procurement process is and has been for many decades a mess. Yes, that is part of the swamp but pols have been promising to fix it for as long as I can remember and yet, here we are.

So, I agree - that stinks. But to attempt to lay it at the feet of the current President is either vindictive and petty or totally lacking in knowledge on the subject..
