Trump Healthcare Life Expectancy Drops 1st Time Century

Interesting aspect of this is the Red State suicide belt that mostly affects older white males.

Conversely suicide rates for black males have stayed about the same.

Speculation is blacks have a better sense of community that helps them cope, verses the rugged individualism of white males in the red state suicide belt.

IMO people feel useless when a machine replaces them and they turn to drugs, alcohol , opiates, tobacco, and we might include sugar in there as well.

Yes, you can write a headline about a topic. In this case your headline is not about Trump as you posted.... you posted "Trump Healthcare Life Expectancy Drops 1st Time Century". A false headline.

I ask again what is Trump healthcare?

As to like expectancy there are many reasons why it goes up or down .

If you want to have credibility it would behoove you to not make things up.

Good Question - What is Trump Healthcare - all throughout the Campaign Trump talked about Repeal & Replace Obamacare

For The First 2 Entire years of the Trump Presidency he had control of the Entire US Government - Executive - US House - US Senate - US Supreme Court

In fact for the First time since he's been on the Supreme Court - 27 Years - Clarence Thomas asked a Oral Question during a Hearing before the Supreme Court so if Thomas is viable the Trump Supreme Court is

So Again - What is Trump Healthcare - what has Trump replaced Obamacare with?

Health Affairs - New Budget Bill Eliminates IPAB, Cuts Prevention Fund, And Delays DSH Payment Cuts

Congress initially set aside $15 billion for the PPHF over its first 10 years. The ACA also authorized House and Senate appropriations committees to tap into the PPHF for prevention, wellness, and public health activities that improve health and restrain the rate of health care costs. Because of this option for lawmakers and perhaps because of the overall size of the PPHF, the PPHF has been repeatedly chipped away at by Congress or used by the executive branch to fund non-public health services. This led Sarah Kliff to dub it “the incredible shrinking Prevention Fund” as early as 2013.

ALL BIG issues come down to money - politicians may put forth really good policies for the fighting of the opioid epidemic but when it falls short, they always blame it on not enough money when it could be a problem with the policy or programs.

I never met an addict that got "cured" if they didn't want the "cure" - a lot of hard work.  That is what we are talking about here - saving lives, restoring lives in order to increase the mortality rate age.  Education, research, even treatment goes only so far because in the end, the person has to make it happen.

It is that way with many things that seem to be killing us which we have some control over - smoking, other addictions, most obesity.

According to the OECD - the mortality age indicator is decreasing in other countries too.

. . . . . trends in life expectancy in the 28 EU countries and some other high-income OECD countries, and examines potential explanations for the slowdown in improvements in recent years. The slowdown in improvements in life expectancy since 2011 has been greatest in the USA, where life expectancy has fallen in recent years, and the UK, but France, Germany, Sweden and Netherlands have also seen a sharp slowdown. Overall, the pace of mortality improvement has slowed in several EU countries and Australia and Canada since 2011. Diseases of older ages are major contributors to the slowdown. Improvements in cardiovascular (CVD) disease mortality have slowed in many countries, respiratory diseases, including influenza and pneumonia, have claimed excess lives in some winters, and deaths from dementia and Alzheimer's disease are rising. In some countries, notably the USA and the UK, mortality improvements have also slowed or even reversed among working age adults because of the rising numbers dying from drug-related accidental poisoning. The report also considers wider contributing factors. Although some risk factors, such as smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, high blood pressure and cholesterol levels, continue to decline in most EU countries, the prevalence of obesity and diabetes continues to rise.

OECD iLibrary: 02/28/2019 - Trends in life expectancy in EU and other OECD countries

WHATABOUTISM - Is Not A Valid Argument

The Space & Time is USA - 2019

The Aggregate Life Expectancy in the rest of the World when you exclude the US Population is going up over the last 3 years of the Trump Administration - we are including the under developed Countries of Africa - The Middle East - and of course Europe

The Aggregate Life Expectancy of Americans as a whole is decreasing over the same period

The Questions Remain -

What is the Trump Plan if there is one?

How effective has it been if there is one?

@ChasKy53

Gee, ChasKy53 - I am just giving you the info as reported -

Here it is directly from the CDC Director -

https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2018/s1129-US-life-expectancy.html

The latest CDC data show that the U.S. life expectancy has declined over the past few years. Tragically, this troubling trend is largely driven by deaths from drug overdose and suicide.  Life expectancy gives us a snapshot of the Nation’s overall health and these sobering statistics are a wakeup call that we are losing too many Americans, too early and too often,. .

More from the CDC Newsroom -

12/21/2018 - New Data Show Growing Complexity of Drug Overdose Deaths in America

There were more than 70,000 drug overdose deaths in 2017, with a rate of 21.7 per 100,000 population. The rate increased by nearly 10 percent from 2016. . . . .

Opioid death rates differed across the states examined in this study, with the highest relative increases occurring in North Carolina, Ohio, and Maine. From 2016 to 2017, opioid-involved deaths:

  • Increased for both sexes.
  • Increased among all people in all age groups over the age of 25.
  • Increased among white, black, and Hispanic people.
  • Had the largest absolute death rate increase in males 25-44.

The largest percent change increases in opioid-involved death rates were among blacks (25.2 percent) and adults over age 65 (17.2 percent).

CDC 9/20/2018 - Death Rates Up for 5 of the 12 Leading Causes of Death

* drug overdose deaths are counted as Unintended injuries

Special Highlights

  • Life expectancy at birth decreased for the first time since 1993 by 0.2 years between 2014 and 2015, and then decreased another 0.1 years between 2015 and 2016.
  • Between 2000 and 2016, death rates for five of the 12 leading causes of death increased: unintentional injuries, Alzheimer’s disease, suicide, chronic liver disease, and septicemia.
  • The age-adjusted death rate for drug overdose in the U.S. increased 72 percent between 2006 and 2016 to 19.8 deaths per 100,000 population in 2016.
  • Between 2006 and 2016, the age-adjusted suicide death rate increased 23 percent, from 11.0 to 13.5 deaths per 100,000 resident population
  • Among men ages 25–34, death rates for chronic liver disease and cirrhosis increased by an average of 7.9 percent per year during 2006–2016. Among women in the same age group, this increase averaged 11.4 percent per year.

No it's not "the same reasons" and you can not show documentation that it is. Mickstuder provided a ot of information with sources to support reasons for life expectancy to fall under trump, and many losing insurance surely help contribute to the statistics.

Looks like the uninsured rate has gone down consistenly - why not, with Obamacare subsidies.

Yet at the same time our mortality age has decreased rather than increasing - but as I showed in the latest OECD report on the subject - the US in among other nations who are also losing ground.

Number of Uninsured and Uninsured Rate Among the Nonelderly Population, 2008-2017

Currently our problem is addiction especially to opioids - natural or synthetic or some that are just down right poison hitting the market.  It is affecting a younger population and with those overdoses that end in death - it affects this mortality age stat drastically.  The experts tell us this is the reason why our mortality age stat in the US is decreasing.

I am having a hard time deciphering these CDC stats - maybe you can decipher them..

CDC Stats - Drug Overdose Mortality by State - 2017

CDC - Number and age-adjusted rates of drug overdose deaths by state, US 2017

It's very shallow thinking to assume that drug/opiate addiction is the sole reason for life expectancy to decline. Gee maybe it's because of all of the rapes and murders by Latinos? Sound silly, doesn't it? So does blaming it all on opiate addictions.  The United States has a lower life expectancy than most developed nations with universal health care plans. It's far more logical to assume that not having universal health care is causing our low and sometimes dropping life expectancy.  As far as it dropping ......... Mickstuder listed some logical reasons. I personally know several who are in danger now because they cannot afford medicine for their diabetes, it is life threatening, their insurance quite covering it on January 1st of this year. What has trump done to make medicines more affordable or to force insurance companies to cover them?

Life in the USA is on goiing  very stressful for millions... half  of our citizens  are dealing with low wages or are  underemployed with low wages.     Why Stress Can Kill You: A Cardiologist Explains.  that factors such as  job related ones,  trying to raise children while working more hours to pay bills,     low self-esteem, low socioeconomic status,    inadequate social support, anger, hostility, and hopelessness have all been identified as causes of disease.
