I can understand Trump's frustration. He wanted to get out of Syria but his generals kept asking for "6 more months".  I get that.

On the other hand, he executed in just about the worst way possible.  He alienated every ally we have in the region and the troops are still there. Can you spell incompetent? The man could not manage the night shift at a Taco Bell.

The WH staff goes home every night wondering what they will have to reverse tomorrow.   Donald says A, then everyone explains how that won't work and so he backs off.   WH Officials negotiate with foreign leaders that leaving had an asterisk after it, aka ISIS is really beaten...and Donald has a hissy fit.   He complains that he has already said that ISIS has been defeated and regardless of facts on the ground he demands Bolton is lying / taking Donald out of the spotlight.

For those who have not been following this saga, that means  Iran and Syria just got their mojo back and Israel lost in the game of musical chairs.

Well Erdogan obviously has a large Cult of his own that is begging for some Bloodshed - he's already had one Coup Attempt so I'm not sure he can wait 2 years to start some good ole fashioned Ethnic Cleansing underway

Erdogan like Trump enjoys conflict & chaos as his Ruling Style - this should be interesting & I hope someone in the USA knows how to protect US Assets in the Area or some of the Blood Shed is going to be American

Bolton vs. Trump on Syria makes it clear that the US is a fickle ally

President Trump said that the U.S. would be leaving Syria.

White House national security adviser John Bolton, speaking for the president, revised that message.

The message is supposed to reassure the Kurds, currently threatened by our NATO ally Turkey. But the only message to come across is that Washington is a fickle ally.

During a phone call, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told Trump that he was planning an operation against U.S.-backed Kurdish forces in Syria but needed American troops out of the way. Trump readily agreed and within a week announced that troops would quickly be leaving Syria.

That announcement was met with widespread criticism — including from within his own administration: The Kurdish forces that Trump was so ready to throw under the Turkish guns were key allies in the fight against the Islamic State; they were trained, supplied by, and allied with U.S. forces; ISIS was not actually defeated; pulling out would hurt Israel; and Iran and Russia would quickly take over.

Those criticisms championed by Bolton, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and others seem to have convinced Trump — at least a little. He is no longer calling for an immediate withdrawal or saying that ISIS is defeated and has offered support for a no-timeline withdrawal.

Turkey's Erdogan criticizes John Bolton as rift between NATO allies deepens

The national security adviser was accused of making a "serious mistake" in calling for a new condition for the U.S. exit from Syria.

ANKARA, Turkey — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan did not meet with U.S. national security adviser John Bolton here on Tuesday, while telegraphing a widening rift between the NATO allies that leaves the Trump administration's plans to withdraw troops from Syria in limbo.

In a speech to Parliament, Erdogan said that Bolton had made a "serious mistake" in calling for a new condition for the U.S. exit from Syria. Bolton has been seeking assurances that Turkey won't attack Syrian Kurds, who are allies of Washington, after American forces depart.

He said that Turkey would never compromise on the issue of the YPG Kurdish militia, which the U.S. has backed in the fight against the Islamic State in Syria. Turkey sees the YPG as a terrorist organization and part of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party.

Trump announced Dec. 19 that all U.S. troops would immediately withdraw from Syria. The announcement, which shocked U.S. allies and members of Trump’s own administration, stemmed from a phone call with Erdogan in which the Turkish leader convinced the president to withdraw and said Turkey would take over the fight against ISIS.
