Republican officials had early warnings of voting irregularities in North Carolina

Allegations of fraud in November’s general election have now put the outcome of the 9th Congressional District race in limbo. State investigators are examining the activities of a political operative named Leslie McCrae Dowless, who ran a get-out-the-vote effort for the Harris campaign during the primary and general elections.

When GOP Rep. Robert Pittenger lost his primary by a narrow margin in May, he suspected something was amiss.

The congressman turned to a group of friends and family who had gathered with him on election night at a steakhouse near Charlotte and blamed the “ballot stuffers in Bladen,” according to three people at the gathering.

Pittenger’s concern stemmed from the vote tallies in rural Bladen County, where his challenger, a pastor from the Charlotte suburbs named Mark Harris, had won 437 absentee mail-in votes.

Pittenger, a three-term incumbent, had received just 17.

In the days immediately after the race, aides to Pittenger told the executive director of the North Carolina Republican Party and a regional political director for the National Republican Congressional Committee that they believed fraud had occurred, according to people familiar with their discussions.

GOP officials did little to scrutinize the results, instead turning their attention to Harris’s general-election campaign against a well-funded Democratic opponent, the people said.

Their accounts provide the first indication that state and national Republican officials received early warnings about voting irregularities in North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District, now the subject of multiple criminal probes.

Wisconsin Republicans are trying to erase their 2018 loss

(CNN)Elections have consequences.

That adage, which has long been part of the bedrock of our democracy, doesn't appears to be the case anymore -- at least in Wisconsin.

"Wisconsin is now expected to reduce its number of early voting days, restrict gubernatorial influence over a powerful economic agency [Democratic Gov-elect Tony] Evers sought to disband, and require legislative backing for certain decisions traditionally made by the attorney general and governor -- a move that would likely block [Democratic Attorney General-Elect John] Kaul from pulling the state out of a federal lawsuit against Obamacare. The legislature will also be able to hire its own lawyers to defend state law in court, diminishing the attorney general's power."

Make no mistake about what's happening here: Republicans in Wisconsin are trying to undo the results of the 2018 election. They don't like the idea of Democrats being given the same power over the state they enjoyed when they won the governorship and the attorney general's office so they are acting in a lame-duck session to take away those powers.

It's literally the opposite of the democratic process.

Can courts stop the GOP's assault on the powers of Wisconsin's incoming Democratic officials?

Wisconsin Lame Duck.png

Analysis: The "separation of powers" doctrine may not protect the governor and attorney general from interference by legislators.

The Wisconsin Senate voted this week to pass wide-reaching bills in a lame-duck session that would empower the GOP-controlled Legislature and weaken the incoming governor and attorney general, both Democrats who are replacing Republicans.

Attorney General-elect Josh Kaul, as a soon-to-be member of the executive branch, has suggested on MSNBC that there will be multiple lawsuits challenging the legislature's supposed appropriation of executive authority, in violation of the "separation of powers" doctrine. (Kaul is succeeding Brad Schimel, while Tony Evers is succeeding Gov. Scott Walker.)

The "separation of powers" doctrine, while not in the Wisconsin Constitution, is implicit in the division of powers among the judicial, legislative and executive branches, and is a foundational principle of Wisconsin's tri-partite system of government.

Democrats likely will take the position that it is the state judiciary's long-recognized duty, recognized since the U.S. Supreme Court's 1803 decision in Marbury v. Madison, to entertain a lawsuit challenging the acts of the legislature for any conflict with the Wisconsin constitution.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court has adjudicated disputes about the constitutional functions of the other state government branches, notwithstanding the fact that a case involves political considerations or consequences. But a Wisconsin court reviewing the Democrats' potential challenge to the Republicans' legislative power would also have to consider whether this dispute involves a "nonjusticiable political question."

More Corrupt GOP Shenanigans in North Carolina

North Carolina investigators zero in on absentee ballots in unresolved House race

In one rural county, several individuals requested absentee ballots on behalf of hundreds of voters. What happened to those ballots?

ELIZABETHTOWN, N.C. — Pressure is increasing on North Carolina to find a resolution to the unresolved congressional race in the state’s Ninth District as more allegations of election irregularities and fraudulent activities continue to surface.

State investigators are combing through local election board records in several counties to discover whether there was an organized effort to unlawfully collect the absentee ballots of thousands of voters and then not turn those ballots over to election authorities.

They are especially interested in Bladen County, a rural area in the southeastern part of the state where investigators are looking at several individuals who turned in requests for absentee ballots on behalf of hundreds of voters.

The results of the investigation could put in jeopardy Republican congressional candidate Mark Harris’ unofficial lead of 905 votes over Democrat Dan McCready in the race.

Additional documents obtained by NBC News from an attorney working with Democrats to find information to pass on to state investigators indicate that Jessica Dowless and a half dozen others were signed witnesses to more than at least 150 absentee ballot applications.

Other signatories to the applications include Sandra Dowless, Britt's mother. Cheryl Kinlaw and Ginger Eason also signed dozens of applications as witnesses.

Kinlaw said she was paid $100 to collect absentee ballots. “I feel bad now that I know that it wasn't legal, but I didn't know at the time,” she told WSOC in Charlotte.

Pot was legalized here on the last ballot also, due to be taxed at 25% with revenue going to repair what are now the nations worst roads ( republicans have enacted taxes before to fix roads and done a bait and switch)
and to boost school spending in what is now one of the worst school systems in the nation. ( home of the devos family ya know..their ideas have been in stayle since the Dems lost control in the 80's).

The republican legislature in proposing dropping the tax to 10% and forbidding that revenue going to schools and roads. It is unknown if Governor Snyder ( the flint water Gov ) will sign it.

The first administration to take power from the newly elected Governor was John Engler, who hamstrung Jennifer Granholm after she beat Dick DeVos.

what a change from the good ol days. 1st in per capita income, best roads, best schools, thriving environmentalism ( i forgot to mention there is talk of stopping deposit on beverage containers..passed by referendum in 76) no taxes on retiree income..all gone due to republican policies.
]
So it begins.

How The Michigan GOP Gutted A Minimum Wage Hike And Paid Sick Leave

Republican lame-duck state legislators in Michigan voted this week to gut a bill that would’ve raised the state’s minimum wage and given workers access to paid sick leave.

Here’s what happened in Michigan: Atkinson and her fellow activists got 400,000 signatures on a petition in an effort to get a minimum wage hike and paid sick leave on the state’s November ballot.

Ballot measures on wages and sick leave have proven enormously popular around the country ― most recently passing in two red states, Missouri and Arkansas.

There was every indication Michigan would follow suit.

But under pressure from business lobbyists, GOP lawmakers in the state figured out an end run: adopt and amend.

BAIT & SWITCH

To keep the provision off the November ballot, they approved legislation in September that looked similar to what activists wanted: raising the minimum wage from $9.25 to $12 by 2022 and similarly hiking the tipped minimum wage to $12 an hour by 2024, up from the current $3.52.

Now After the Election

The current iteration of the bill, headed for the governor’s desk, would delay raising the minimum wage to $12.05 an hour until 2030, by which time inflation would erode much of the income increases. The tipped minimum wage would only go up to $4.58 an hour by 2030.

Vote Republican - They are For Good Paying Jobs & Benefits

The paid sick leave provision is also essentially toothless.

It is limited to businesses with more than 50 employees, and it gives employers discretion over when to allow workers paid sick days.

So your boss could require a week’s notice to take a sick day ― not very helpful when you wake up with a fever. The amended bill would allow any kind of time off ― including paid holidays ― to count toward sick time.

About 1 million workers in Michigan would be excluded under the amended sick leave bill, said Ellen Bravo, director of Family Values @ Work, a paid sick and family leave advocacy group.
