Think Obama Administration Wasn't Corrupt? Think Again

BY:  Editorial Staff @ Investor's Business Daily. 3/2018

Obama Scandal: Former President Obama and his political supporters have repeatedly stated that his administration was scandal-free, unlike administrations before and after. "We're probably the first administration in modern history that hasn't had a major scandal in the White House," Obama himself said. A new book puts the lie to that statement.

Never mind that the left-leaning big media basically ignored major scandals during the Obama years, ranging from the IRS targeting scandal and the VA's deadly waiting lists for veterans to Hillary Clinton's illegal use of an unsecured, hackable home-brew server for her official duties as secretary of state and the Fast and Furious gunwalking program.

These and others were epic scandals that the media simply ignored or downplayed.

The media have contrasted Obama's supposed honesty and forthrightness with President Trump's supposed venality and political unscrupulousness, as embodied in the year-and-a-half long Russia-Trump scandal investigation that shows few signs of letting up.

But now comes Peter Schweizer's new book, "Secret Empires: How Our Politicians Hide Corruption and Enrich Their Families and Friends," which shows that the Obama administration and its cronies were up to their necks in questionable business deals and may even have intentionally distorted public policy to accommodate their own profit-making.

The book claims "Obama and his administration would deem industries either destructive to the environment or exploitative for the financial and professional gain of his friends, including industries such as coal mining, offshore drilling, cash advance companies, and for-profit colleges,"  wrote Katelyn Caralle of the Washington Examiner.

Schweizer's book, based on extensive research, says that Obama acted to regulate certain industries in such a way that the regulations lowered the value of some of the companies, wrote Katelyn Caralle of the Washington Examiner. These actions let two family friends to profit handsomely on deals through their own investment firm.

Here's how it worked: Obama buddies Marty Nesbitt and Harreld Kirkpatrick III formed a private equity investment firm called Vistria, right around the time Obama was re-elected in 2012.

Nothing wrong with that, except, as Schweizer notes in his book, "A curious pattern began to emerge. Obama and his administration would attack industries with government power, which led to substantially lower valuations for these companies. Nesbitt and Vistria, or others close to Obama, could then acquire those assets for pennies on the dollar."

As an example, Schweizer cites the case of for-profit higher education schools like University of Phoenix, ITT Technical Institute, and DeVry University. In 2013, Obama blamed the schools for taking advantage of students by saddling them with massive amounts of student debt, ruining their credit and making a profit on it. He ordered the Federal Trade Commission to go after them.

In the case of the University of Phoenix, its parent Apollo Education Group was suspended after a Federal Trade Commission investigation in 2015. The following year, three companies, including Vistria, swooped in to buy what remained of Apollo at a price 90% below its share price before the investigation.

As Vistria's education investment portfolio bulged, a number of Obama Education Department officials, including Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, ended up taking high-level jobs with Vistria.

That's just one example. There are others.

Schweizer noted in his book, for instance, that both Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State John Kerry were deeply involved in trade and security talks with China even as that country began its aggressive campaign to expand its military and physical presence in the South China Sea. Contrary to standard diplomatic practice, however, both played "good cop," not seriously confronting China on its misbehavior.

Remember, Biden and Kerry were close friends from their years spent together in the Senate. So there was little surprise when Biden's son, Hunter, and Kerry's stepson, Christopher Heinz, one of the heirs to the Heinz ketchup fortune, went into business together in 2009.

They created a number of equity and real estate investment firms allied to Rosemont Capital, "the alternative investment fund of the Heinz Family Office."

So far so good. Except, "Over the next seven years, as both Joe Biden and John Kerry negotiated sensitive and high-stakes deals with foreign governments, Rosemont entities secured a series of exclusive deals with those same foreign governments."

In December of 2013, for instance, Biden traveled to China for talks. He brought Hunter Biden along. While there, the senior Biden soft-pedaled China's clear aggression, and played up the bilateral trade partnership. Ten days after the trip concluded, China's central bank, the Bank of China, set up a $1 billion investment joint venture called Bohai Harvest RST. For the record, the "RS" referred to Biden's son's firm, Rosemont Seneca.

That's questionable enough.

But months later, in July 2014, Secretary of State John Kerry traveled to China, also for talks. Kerry talked little of China's clear aggression, but did conspicuously note that "China and the United States represent the greatest economic alliance trading partnership in the history of humankind."

He should know. In the ensuing months, Chinese government-linked firms took major stakes in several of the firms owned or controlled by Hunter Biden and Chris Heinz, and provided them with massive funding totaling billions of dollars. Nor is this the only scandal involving John Kerry.

And this just scratches the surface. The book is a catalog, a virtual roadmap, to the way corrupt business gets done in Washington — and why Americans are smart to question why their representative go to Washington as paupers, and return as millionaires.

We can only hope that as Biden or Kerry gears up for a challenge to Trump in the 2020 presidential contest, they will receive the same relentless scrutiny that a Republican with the same record of venality would get.

But we won't hold our breath.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

And of course the Obama cultist will not admit any of this...  Righteous indignation? Yes, a classic example.

"Home brewed server"???   My guess is that server was better prepped than anything the government had.

For the rest, Peter Schweizer is a senior editor at large for Breitbart.  A publication not know for either unbiased reporting or factual reporting.  I have not read this book but Clinton Cash had few accusations (which can create a liable suit) but lots of questions (which cannot). This is the same pattern Brietbart uses and for the same reason, neither bothers to verify anything.

You'd think the ninnies would learn that wasting 25 years TRYING to find a single crime the Clintons committed would give them a clue trying the same thing again with President Obama will make them look even ninnier. But then YOU think, and they do not.

You said they didn't find any crimes on the Clintons lmfao, only about 12 of them which the Clintons either settled with or plead out to with deals keeping out of the media

I'd also think people who call that pathetic, limp wristed list actual "scandals" while kissing Trump's feet have a bed waiting at the Chronic Ward.

President Obama and key members of his Democrat cabinet like Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, disgraced Attorney General Eric Holder, Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, and UN Ambassador Susan Rice were all among the top ten most corrupt politicians in Washington for 2012, according to an annual list compiled by the non-partisan Judicial Watch. Also on the roster were several lawmakers including two GOP congressmen from Florida and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada).

The president himself made the infamous “Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians” list due to a series of scandals and broken promises that have plagued virtually his entire time occupying the White House. Lawless behavior, regular violations of the U.S. Constitution, unprecedented secrecy, and abuse of so-called “executive privilege” to protect his senior officials all contributed to Obama’s designation as one of the most crooked politicians in the capital today.

Citing the president’s 2009 vow that “transparency” and the “rule of law” would be the “touchstones” of his presidency, Judicial Watch said the statement would get in on the first ballot if there were a “Hall of Fame” for broken promises. “Instead of transparency and the rule of law over the past four years, we have witnessed the greatest expansion of government in modern political history and, consequently, an explosion of government secrecy, scandals, and abuses of power,” the non-profit public interest watchdog explained.

Among the specifics that earned Obama the designation was a shroud of lawless secrecy that permeated the entire administration. Judicial Watch, which investigates and prosecutes official corruption, was forced to file almost 1,000 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and close to 100 lawsuits against the administration to find out what was going on, it said. Despite stonewalling, the group investigated elements of ObamaCare, the showering of taxpayer money on mega Wall Street banks, continued funding of the “criminal ACORN network,” and much more.

According to the Washington-based group and countless other analysts, while Obama touts transparency in public, he actually condones the routine violation of federal open records laws by his administration in an effort to conceal his activities. There are almost countless examples to prove the point.

Another series of abuses that helped put the president himself on the widely respected corruption list was the use of unconstitutional and mostly unaccountable “czars” — many of whom were lawlessly put in charge of major government policies and programs. There are now 45 such figures in Washington, and more than a few have been linked to “scandals, thefts and kickbacks, flagrant and offensive statements, conflicts of interest, and radical leftist political ideologies and policies,” according to Judicial Watch, which has been monitoring “czar” developments for years. Obama’s “Green Jobs Czar” Van Jones was even a self-styled communist.

Also among the reasons cited for Obama’s “corrupt” designation: multiple unconstitutional power grabs employed to advance the administration’s controversial agenda. One of the most brazen, according to former officials and Judicial Watch, was the president’s lawless attempt to unilaterally appoint a number of key officials while getting around the Senate in a corrupt process criticized across the political spectrum.

The unconstitutional use of “executive orders” to further Obama’s agenda on illegal immigrationdespite clear laws passed by Congress, meanwhile, was also included on the list of his corrupt activities. Finally, the president’s fraudulent and illegal use of so-called “executive privilege” to shield disgraced Attorney General Holder from prosecution over the Fast and Furious gun-running scandal also contributed to the president’s corrupt designation.

“The list could go on ad infinitum — with Benghazigate, bailouts, abusing the perks of office for luxury vacations for his family, and, of course, his personal involvement in the Solyndra scandal,” the non-profit group said in its listing. “But the bottom line is this: The federal government under Barack Obama is off the rails and out of control. And now, with Obama having been given the ‘flexibility’ of a second term, it can only be expected to get worse.”

Aside from the president himself, many of his top cabinet officials also wound up on the corruption list. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who has previously appeared on the list, and Obama’s Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice, were both listed together. The reason: “Hillary Clinton’s and Rice’s lies about one of the most significant terrorist attacks since 9/11 are, perhaps, the scandal of the year out of this administration,” Judicial Watch noted. That scandal, however, is far from over

As expected, Attorney General Holder — a regular on the corruption list — was on it again this year as well. He kept his spot for “shamelessly” running “the most blatantly politicized Department of Justice (DOJ) in a generation.” Plus, as The New American has documented extensively, the administration’s arming of Mexican drug cartels in Operation Fast and Furious through the Justice Department means that, as Judicial Watch explained, “it is no exaggeration that his agency has blood on its hands.”

The lies and subsequent attempt to cover-up the deadly scandal — hundreds of Mexicans and at least two U.S. law enforcement officers have been murdered with weapons ... — eventually led to Holder becoming the first attorney general in American history to be held in criminal contempt by Congress. “Every day that Eric Holder remains at the helm, the Department of Justice sinks further into the abyss of cronyism, corruption, and deceit,” the organization said. “And it is well past time for him to go.” Over 120 U.S. lawmakers agree.

Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, meanwhile, earned his spot among the most corrupt politicians thanks to his admitted role in the “green energy” scams — especially the Solyndra scandal in which the U.S. government gave more than $500 million to a failed company and one of its key investors, Obama backer George Kaiser. Altogether, as The New American documented recently, the administration funneled billions of taxpayer dollars into the pockets of wealthy Democrats and Obama.... More than 75 percent of the over $20 billion went to Obama financial backers, according to DoE figures analyzed by researchers.

Last but not least among Obama’s corrupt cabinet for 2012 was Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius. According to the U.S. Office of Special Counsel, the radical pro-abortion and pro-tax funded contraception official was guilty of violating the Hatch Act by campaigning for the president in her official capacity. Violators are normally fired, but Sebelius got off without punishment after claiming she “got a little caught up in the notion that the gains which had been made would clearly not continue without the president’s reelection.”

Congress, one of the most unpopular institutions in America based on recent polls, also had its share of corrupt officials on both sides of the aisle. Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-Fla.), Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.), Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), and Rep. David Rivera (R-FL) all made the 2012 list. Each of them was involved in their own scandals, but based on the evidence offered by Judicial Watch, it appears that all four of them have been implicated in major corruption.

There were also a few lawmakers from both sides of the aisle who earned a “dishonorable mention.” Along with them were disgraced general and former CIA chief David Petraeus, who was caught in an affair, and Obama’s Homeland Security boss Janet Napolitano, known to critics as “Big Sis,” who earned a mention by violating her oath of office to advance Obama’s unlawful amnesty agenda.

Sen. Harry Reid, meanwhile, who leads the majority party in the Senate, was among the top ten most corrupt politicians, too — again, being described by Judicial Watch as “a repeat Top Ten offender.” This year, he made the cut thanks to a variety of corrupt influence-peddling scandals — often benefiting his sons — exposed by reporters in Nevada. However, as multiple sources attest, the latest schemes are hardly the first time Reid has been embroiled in corruption scandals.

Considering the sheer volume of dirty deals, influence peddling, lawlessness, scandals, and outright violations of the Constitution emanating from the capital, it takes quite a bit for somebody to end up on the top ten most corrupt list. It appears, however, that unless concerned citizens take action, the Obama administration and members of Congress in both parties intend to continue operating a corrupt government regardless of the law or even the Supreme Law of the Land, the U.S. Constitution. And now they want your guns.

FYI_On 21 August 2018, Michael Cohen, Donald Trump’s former personal attorney and self-described “fixer”, pled guilty to eight criminal charges, two of which were election law violations concerning the facilitation of hush money payments made in the run-up to the November 2016 general election to women who allegedly had affairs with Trump.

During a hearing in a Manhattan federal courthouse, Cohen stated under oath that he committed these election law crimes “at the direction of” Donald Trump while the latter was a candidate for president, leading some commentators to classify Trump an “unindicted co-conspirator” (although he has not yet been charged in any crime). One defense against such charges, articulated by President Trump on Twitter the following morning, was that Barack Obama also committed campaign finance violations that were just as bad in 2008, but he was let off much easier:

Michael Cohen plead guilty to two counts of campaign finance violations that are not a crime. President Obama had a big campaign finance violation and it was easily settled!

Lets get to facts.

1. Muller had the evidence but could not proceed due to the JD policy that a sitting President can not be tried while in office. Muller has everything laid out so one of 2 things can happen. Congress can use the material to bring Impeachment, or the JD can move on Trump and try him after he leaves office.

2. The 3 million was not for Taxes owed. Trump and NYC had a hotel deal where NYC would receive 50% of profits of the hotel which was located near Grand Central Station. The money flowed in for a few years then stopped. Trump told the city the hotel was loosing money. The Controller of NYC did an audit of Trumps books, and found he was keeping 2 set of books. One for  the city, and the real set. The city was shortchanged 3 million which it then collected.

3. There is no such thing as making fraud go away. The court found their was fraud on Trumps part and Trump had to pay 24 million for his fraud to the Students. The court records tell us the Students did not get what they paid for so they did not benefit.

There was a crime committed in all of these cases and that is why the court made Trump pay. It was no big deal for Trump as he has stolen or cheated just about everyone he ever dealt with. One small supplier who Trump stiffed after the material was delivered was forced into loosing his business, and put a gun to his head and killed him self. Trump really murdered him. There was an old lady who would not sell her house to Trump so he made it worthless to her. Both of these were with his AC business.

Here all can see how the far right tries  to cover for Trump the thief. Trump per the people who know his money never was a billionaire. We will know this if we ever see his tax returns.
