I like your list and I agree. Many Presidents did good and bad things. I liked Johnson because of his perseverance and bully pulpit efforts in getting the Civil Rights Act passed, he deserves tons of credit for that. Without him it would not have passed.

But then there was his handling of the Viet Nam War, one of our (and his) biggest mistakes and perhaps the one thing he was remembered for.

I agree, and also think LBJ is often overlooked as a great president because of the war, one that had roots to the late 1950's.

During his first 100 days, he passed more legislation than any president in history.  He was determined to pass the civil rights bill that Kennedy had pursued. He gave us Medicare. He was a champion for the poor, and wanted to crush poverty. For better or worse, he established several welfare programs in his war on poverty. He always said that you had to strike a balance between capitalism and socialism, and not let the pendulum swing too far in either direction.

The Johnson family, in recent years, have released many of his presidential tapes to the LBJ library. He was clearly disturbed by the war, and truly couldn't come to grips with what to do about it, which led him not to seek a second term. This was rather extraordinary given his long history in Washington, forceful personality, and sheer determination to overcome any obstacle that got in his way.

Some biographers believe that he listened, and put too much stock in what his generals were telling him. Whatever they asked for, he seemed compelled to send, and it just kept going deeper into the quagmire.

We've had some great presidents (FDR, JFK) and some not-so-great ones (Richard Nixon, George W. Bush).  My favorite of all time, though, has to be our current leader, Barach Obama.  He has withstood the onslaughts of a hateful Republican party with grace.  Because of him, I can afford health insurance.  Because of him, unemployment is down, the American auto industry is alive, and Bin Laden is dead!  Because of him, we have fewer men and women of the military stationed overseas.  Things are so much better than they were eight years ago with Bush at the helm.  And the Republican party calls him "terrible"??!!!  All presidents should be so terrible!

Barack Obama is my favorite President. He overcame the odds to become President because he is African-American and many people don't like him for that reason. Obama pushed through the Affordable Care Act, he made it possible for gays to join the military and be able to marry. In addition Obama sent the troops to Pakistan to kill Osama Bin Laden. The US economy has improved since Obama has been President.

Obama is the only President, besides Clinton that has made me happy to be an American. I was born during the Johnson administration, so during my formative & adolescent years Nixon, Ford & Reagan. From my young minds perspective Reagan was endearing, but Carter made the governmental world seem interesting. For the first time we had commoners in the white house & the topics seemed more relevant & more about the people & not business. No wonder why he was one term. Since then, Clinton's term was a wonderful 8 years for me & all those I knew. It was also the last time our country was operating in the black. Which is why I will vote & do what i can, to return them to the white house. I have faith that Hillary, above all others in the field, will do the best things for the people. It's certainly not any Republican that is going to hold up President Obama' Constitutional job to start a replacement process. Those Republicans are obstructing justice & should be charged accordingly. We can all agree the passing if Justice Scalia is poor timing, but it's in times like this you see the true colors of the players, so far the Republicans are whining children, refusing to do their jobs, so they can overtly press their personal agenda instead of doing their governmental jobs. This shows how the Republicans do things to get their way & I REFUSE to have a bunch of overpaid children run our proud & wonderful country. Term limits for Congress & incentives to show up for votes & bonuses for actually making a real effort in helping & changing your community for the better.

My favorite U.S. President of all time has to be James K. Polk.  He not only had the fortitude to snatch all Mexican lands from above the Rio Grande, but was successful in beating up on the Mexican Army.  He got the U.S. deep water ports along the Pacific and somehow was able to compensate the weak Mexican Government for all the lands the U.S. took from them.  He gave them $15 Million of conscience money for California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, Nevada, Utah, Oregon, Wyoming.  Actually everything West of the Mississippi and South  up to the Rio Grande.  He was also very smart and with loads of common sense in that he chose not to take all of Mexico because the U.S. could not afford to provide for the indiginous people occupying that specific country.  So give him credit for forcing today's government to enact strict Immigration policies, i.e., building wall's and such. Donald Trump would love President Polk's charactor.  Nationalistic, totally WASP (don't know what D. Trump is,however) and greedy.  Very Hitlerian

Ronald Regan: He brought back pride of country, strengthened the military, and gained respect for our country internationally. He accomplished all this while also improving the economy. JE

I think Reagan suffered from dementia his whole presidency and was a the 1 reason for disappearance of the middle class and onset of Oligarchy. Yep FDR was the best President of all by a ton. LBJ wasn't bad but FDR the Bimb!

My favorite president in recent history is Obama. He's accomplished so much even with complete GOP opposition--the ACA, Wall Street reform, clean energy reform, historic climate deals with China and in Paris, the Iran nuclear deal, ridding the world of Osama bin Laden, saving the American auto industry, rescuing the country and the world from imminent economic collapse. He's the most transformational president since LBJ.

I don't agree with him on every issue, but I think he'll go down as one of our best presidents.

Gerald Ford. He brought back dignity to the office after Nixon's disgrace.
