Perhaps you should do some research yourself.  A person who overstays their visa and remains is here illegally themselves the same as someone who slips across the border.  Illegal is illegal is illegal no matter how they enter that status.

Dear Tx.  by the way. Happy New Year,  no one is discussing the fact that once a person overstay their visa or comes here illegally or is a student or whatever is most definitely  breaking the law and becoming an undocumented individual subject to deportation.

That is not what has been discussed  here at all. I do believe that perhaps you should read more than just the last posts in this thread.

@Soosie please,   I don't want to offend you, but you need to become  more knowledgeable regarding the current immigration laws and how they work and the differences in the status of undocumented aliens.

You seem to want to put into the same pot anyone that comes to the US and shouldn't be here for whatever the reason. and Unfortunately it simply doesn't work that way at all.

please, do research the laws and see what they are and see how they are enforced and read a little about the immigration courts. and really learn about the whole process.

No one here is defending illegal immigration. I for one prefer to have legal immigration. at all times.

MYTH: IMMIGRANTS ARE ALL MEXICAN

FACT: 30% of immigrants come from Asia, and currently more are coming from China than Mexico

TITLE 8 US Code 1324

The majority of immigrants settling in the U.S. without authorization are first coming to the country legally, raising questions about the effectiveness of President Donald Trump's plan to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexican border.

Crossing the border is not the way "the large majority of persons now become undocumented," the Center for Migration Studies (CMS) said in a recent report. Two-thirds of those who joined the undocumented population did so by entering with a valid visa and then overstaying their period of admission, the center repored.

Overstays have exceeded those entering illegally every year since 2007, and there have been half a million more overstays than illegal entries since 2007.

Mexicans made up half of all unauthorized immigrants in 2016, according to the Center's estimte, compared with 57% in 2007. Their numbers (and share of the total) have been declining in recent years: There were 5.4 million Mexican unauthorized immigrants living in the U.S. in 2016, down from 6.9 million in 2007.

I continue to be amused at the amount of ignorance that exists in this area in the US

First of all people tend to mix apples and oranges.  and then they try to apply the law and make outrageous generalizations.

please before you post make sure that you know what you are talking about.

There are several kinds of illegal or undocumented aliens in the US and they have different laws applied to them an penalties.

One law doesnb't cover all.

1.-  There is the undocumented alien that comes from the southern border and that is usually  brought by themselves or coyotes . into our borders.

2.- There are also other types of undocumented aliens in the US>

Students that simply never go back to their country after they either finish or drop out of college.

Tourists that enter with a tourist visa and simple forget to leave.

H1B visa workers that continue wording although their visas have expired.

All  of these people have different penalties and different processes.

Now. we in this country have and bear some of the blame for these people to be  here and become "undocumented aliens"

And that is the FACT that we provide them with work that enable them to stay until they decide to leave on their own or they are caught.
So to simply apply the code and law that Sussie has told us about here, is a misnomer. and of course it only apply to certain individuals.

Sussie dear  do a lot more research about immigration laws. please.

Center for Immigration Studies Shows a Very Small Threat from Terrorists Crossing the Mexican Border

A count of real terrorists who have crossed the Mexican border since 2001 and wanted to harm Americans would be very short: it would contain zero names.
