Actually several have posted about the financials contributions they made.  How about you?  What have YOU done for the relief of Puerto Rico or Texas?

In the words of John F. Kennedy:   "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."

Further along with inserting their political bias, they are only repeating what they read or hear from the media which is dedicated to selling papers or broadcast time.

Thank you for your statement about PR's sitting and waiting on a handout. it sent us all looking for the facts of Fema treatment in these disaster areas. the taxpayers are pouring iin tons of money for Houstons intentionally disasterous poor drainage..too expensive to install, let fema pay for the damage. King of like most of the city being as safe as the  lower 9th ward in NO. Is drainage going to be sufficient after this incident? Our wioll mey taxes pay for a repeat?

By the way we all DO contribute to PR with out taxes, ans most of us voters here would rather see a shift of money from the mainlande to PR.

So it begins.

Reflective of the so-called Christian values of the Right.  Shameful, indeed.  But they'll never feel ashamed; one must have morals and values and integrity to feel shame.

@nctarheel

You certainly have one thing right, this is a total national disgrace. Is this who we are to treat our fellow citizens with no compassion whatsoever? No, but this is how trump treats people of color. He doubles down to cut aid thru fema even more. And to boot, wasn’t there a 20% tax imposed on this island that needs a break. And I’m sure that you notice the response of “crickets” by the trump supporters on our site. NCtarheel, silence speaks volumes doesn’t it?

we are better than this, and better than trump

TEXAS VS. PUERTO RICO-------THE U.S. SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF ITSELF

Racism rears its ugly head once again in the TRUMP ADMINISTRATION.

Under direction of a TRUMP appointee, FEMA has clearly favored oil rich TEXANS with considerably more disaster relief than the poor folks of PUERTO RICO.

In Puerto Rico, over 70 counties, many which lost vital infrastructure, were covered under FEMA-4339-DR. These counties virtually make up the entire island.

Individual and Household Program Dollars approved amounted to $1,010,751,695.74 and Public Assistance Funds amounted to $535,779,902.74.

This for a territory where the median income is $19,518, barely subsistence living.

WHILE, ON THE OTHER HAND..........

TEXAS received, through FEMA-4332-DR, over $1,552,313,513.40 and Public Asssistance of $625,276,754.95. A mere 41 counties, a small slice of S.E. TEXAS, were covered under FEMA-4332-DR.

This for a state where the median income is $56,565; almost triple that of Puerto Rico. In fact, several of the counties in TEXAS covered under the disaster relief had populations with median incomes exceeding $76,000... well above the national average.

For the Federal Government to give almost 50% MORE MONEY to TEXAN DISASTER RELIEF than it did to PUERTO RICAN DISASTER RELIEF is a travesty steeped in racism.

PUERTO RICO, a territory comprised of mostly low income PERSONS OF COLOR versus TEXAS, comprised of mostly of higher income WHITES was clearly a victim of injustice and prejudice.

TEXANS, with their high levels of income should have easily afforded flood insurance and other insurances which would have not necessitated such a disparity between these two disasters.

FEMA AND OUR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE ASHAMED TO SO CLEARLY SHOW HOW INSTITUTIONALLY RACIST OUR DISASTER ASSISTANCE SYSTEM IS.

PUERTO RICO is still paying the price!!!!!!!!
