Trump’s steel tariffs cost U.S. consumers $900,000 for every job created, experts say

President Trump has shown little interest in removing the steel and aluminum tariffs he imposed more than a year ago despite growing evidence Americans are paying a hefty price for these tariffs and increasing pressure from Republicans in Congress to remove them.

U.S. consumers and businesses are paying more than $900,000 a year for every job saved or created by Trump steel tariffs, according to calculations by experts at the Peterson Institute for International Economics. The cost is more than 13 times the typical salary of a steelworker, according to Labor Department data, and it is similar to other economists’ estimates that Trump’s tariffs on washing machines are costing consumers $815,000 per job created.

“It’s very high. It’s arresting,” said Gary Hufbauer, a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute who did the steel tariff cost calculation. “The reason it’s so high is that steel is a very capital-intensive industry. There are not many workers.”

And yet KidBoy2 thanks trump for the tariffs.

On Fox News Sunday, Larry Kudlow said that even though China will suffer GDP losses from a diminishing export market, he Pinocchio'd the president's claim that China is making "massive payments [which] go directly to the Treasury of the U.S.

It is the American importer who pays the tariffs, which will most probably result in the trickle-down effect to the American consumer.

Good for the U.S. standing up to China, but I question someone, whose rep for the 'art of the deal' has been called into question lately and who bald-faced lies, is the man to show us how it's done.

Note: The video has been cued to the relevant material.  Feel free to rewind it to the beginning.

TARIFFS

This is another great example of Trump Cult behavior. Prior to the arrival of Trump, Republicans fought for FREE TRADE, as in no tariffs. The same was true for reducing the deficit and the size of goverment.

Unforunately, members of a cult are incapable of saying their supreme leader is wrong.

I thank our President for standing up to China....something that was and is needed as China has been taking advantage of our country for years.

Yes, there will be increases on some products which is a small price I am willing to pay to protect our country.

Yes, the usual Trump haters will do what they do...put their party above what is best for our county.

I see Democratic leader Chuck Schumer backs Trump on the tariffs ...

A 25% tariffs represents a 25% price increase, no "small price".

Trump told China to produce goods in the United States that they sell in the United States.  Why hasn't trump and his daughter moved the manufacturing of their products to the United States? Take your time answering, actually I expect nothing but 'crickets'.
