St. Louis Couple Who Pointed Guns at Protesters Indicted

St. Louis couple who pointed guns at protesters indicted on firearm charges

Patricia and Mark McCloskey, the St. Louis homeowners who pointed guns at protesters, have been indicted on weapons and tampering with evidence charges, their attorney said.

Attorney Joel Schwartz told CNN that his clients' indictments are suppressed and won't be unsealed until next Wednesday. A spokeswoman for Kim Gardner, the St. Louis Circuit Attorney, did not respond to CNN's requests for comment.

St. Louis Circuit Clerk Thomas Kloeppinger told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he didn't know why a judge ordered the indictments to be sealed.

The Missouri couple was initially charged in July with unlawful use of a weapon, a class E felony.

The McCloskeys drew national attention in late June after they were seen in a viral video brandishing guns outside their mansion at protesters walking on a private street en route to demonstrate outside the St. Louis mayor's residence.

In videos obtained by CNN, Mark McCloskey holds a long rifle and Patricia McCloskey holds a handgun as demonstrators -- who were protesting Mayor Lyda Krewson's decision to publish the names and addresses of people in favor of police reform -- walked outside the home.

Portland Place, the private street where the McCloskeys live, is near Krewson's home.

Mark McCloskey told CNN's Chris Cuomo in July that he was "in imminent fear they (protesters) would run me over, kill me."

The White House and Missouri Gov. Mike Parson have previously defended the couple.
White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany told reporters that President Donald Trump "said it is absolutely absurd, what is happening to the McCloskeys."

Parson has said he doesn't think the couple should face charges and would pardon them if they were convicted.

"They had every right to protect themselves," the governor said at a news conference in July.
In August, the couple spoke at the Republican National Convention, where they said that Democrats want to "abolish" suburbs.

The far-righties here really do believe only what the RW rags tell them.   It was reported early and often that the gate was open....last time I checked if the gate was open, then there is not a legal stance that says one can not enter an open gate - but how dare they walk by a white man's home....oh my!!!! / s

The BBC reported -

BBC 08/25/2020 - Mark and Patricia McCloskey: What really went on in St Louis that day?

The article tells the story of why the protest began that day -  I am only picking up excerpts at the McCloskey incident.

. . . . .  the call went out across the city for demonstrators to converge on Krewson's (the Mayor) doorstep in the Central West End, demanding her resignation. Hundreds responded. They included members of the clergy and politicians, such as US House of Representatives candidate Cori Bush, who would go on to win her primary against a long-time incumbent in early August.

About two hours into the demonstration on Kingshighway, the marchers began making their way towards Krewson's home. They walked north and made a left toward a street called Portland Place, which is blocked at both ends with imposing stone and wrought iron gates. Signs marked "Private Property" are posted at either end.

. . . . Rasheen Aldridge, a state representative and one of the organisers of the march, said that crossing onto Portland Place should be considered an act of civil disobedience. "Just like in many disobedient protests, even in the 60s, you break laws, make people feel uncomfortable. We're not doing anything where we're hurting anyone or putting anyone in danger," he told KMOV.

It remains unclear at what point the gate was damaged, and by whom.

Moments later, Mark McCloskey appeared on his patio holding a rifle. He was separated from the protesters by a large hedge. "Get the hell out of my neighbourhood," he yelled. "Private property - get out. Get out." Some protesters yelled "calm down," while others swore at him.

Demonstrators shouted back at McCloskey that the street is "public property," which is not true of Portland Place - it is private property owned by a trust. Residents pay towards its management and the upkeep of the street, as well as private security.

read more at the link ~

Politico also said that the street (Portland Place) was actually a private street - not publicly owned.

I think all this proves is that there is a lot of confusion as to the rights of the protestors to use this street as a cut-through to their destination.  Some were charged with misdemeanor trespass  but the charges where dropped but no reason given for this action.

Then there is also the confusion of the homeowners as to what action they should or could take.  Sorry, don't know where their security was at the time.  Do you think an entrance security guard would have or could have stopped the protestors from entering the street?

Ugh, these idiots are back. If it were up to me I'd drop all charges just to be rid of them.

So this poor, poor beleaguered couple has also been indicted on tampering with evidence?  🤔  Ver-r-ry interesting.  I guess we may find out what that means next Wed. when the indictments are unsealed.

I can see why the left riot, burn cities, and seek to hurt other people now.  They don't seem to realize breaking the front gate of a gated community and threatening to harm the residents is OK by them.  They think other people's property is theirs to destroy.  They don't like law and order unless someone bothers them!

It's just another sign of what is going on in this country today. Right and wrong has done a 360...private property used to mean stay off or out...no so much in 2020. Protecting ones property used to be a right, now they're the ones condemned not the law breakers. The dems, including kamala harris, have applauded and encouraged people to break our laws.  And boy have they...knowing, thanks to the dems, that they will get away with it!  Especially if they're any color but white...

Pretty sure only the lovers of Proud Boy dogma would contend pointing guns at people WALKING PAST YOUR HOUSE IN THE STREET is somehow sanctioned by the Constitution.

sunluvngal:

And only a radical dem would suggest that this group of protesters were just "casually" walking past this couples home!

They were trespassing, and yes there were No Trespassing signs posted at the front and rear of this private area. SO they knew, and didn't care, that they were breaking the law!  Nothing new for these groups.

What was going on in this couples city was good enough reason to be concerned when this group showed up and ignored the no trespassing signs.  They didn't belong there...period!

Wouldn't it be something if the far-right extremists actually believed in equal rights for ALL as the Constitution requires and the actually supported the Christian values they falsly claim trump espouses...Wouldn't that be something?

The Governor will pardon them if they are found guilty.  Since when can't you defend one's home, property, and possible injury?

But they weren't "defending their home", their home wasn't under attack, nor was their property or themselves. They were "defending" nothing.

I guess you don't know what gated communities are or they couldn't read the "no trespassing sign" when they broke down the gate and threatened the couple.  Typical liberal mentality - if you don't own it, it is yours to abuse, burn down, and destroy private property!

Who threatened the couple, who reported the threat, and where is it documented.

Also, were any people charged for making threats. Threatening to kill the couple, and to burn their home down are pretty serious  threats.

IMO, the Second Amendment will prevail in the end.  That and private property rights will clear these law abiding citizens.

The liberal BLM cult decided to break down the gate on the gated community and threaten them on the border of their property!  They shouldn't even be there in that private enclave.  They are free to walk on public property, their own property, and even break stuff on their own property but when they enter a private community, all bets are off!

Sure sounds like no facts, just opinions.
Please just provide who was charged for  making these allegedly serious threats.
Simple, if the charges exist against the protesters.

How did they get threatened if they weren't breaking in to a gated community?  Pictures of the BLM cult were taken.  How did that occur if they did not break into the community?  Opinion has nothing to do with they broke in, were held at bay by guns, and didn't burn the house down or kill innocent people like BLM liberals like to do!

Cent: It was a gated community (private property) which the invaders broke the gate down and threatened them with killing them and burning their house down.  The invaders are lucky to be alive right now!!!!!!!

I see the fear-mongering far right-wing extremists continue to make up their FAKE "alternative facts" and try to "sell them" to vulnerable lo-fo's.

The lo-fo's should note that the poster here is claiming that these pedestrians were NOT charged with ANY crime, which means it is VERY likely that no crimes were committed by the victims of this Crime.....
