Republicans should subpoena Brennan, Schiff, and Ukraine whistleblower

Days after the Senate found President Trump not guilty on two articles of impeachment, former White House adviser Steve Bannon called for the Senate Judiciary Committee to crack down on those who pushed to have the commander in chief removed from office.

“He needs to clean house,” Bannon told Fox News host Jesse Watters in an interview that aired Saturday evening. “He needs to get people that support his policies in there to execute this.”

Bannon, 66, said Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham, chairman of the judiciary panel, should subpoena House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, former CIA Director John Brennan, and the whistleblower who raised concerns about Trump's July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“We’ve got to vet this," Bannon said. "Let’s get it all out there. Let’s get the whistleblower, let’s get the second whistleblower, let’s get Brennan up there, let’s get Adam Schiff as a fact witness.”

“Do you think the Senate Republicans have what it takes for that kind of scorched-earth investigation here?” Watters asked.

“They owe it to this country,” Bannon said. “This is before the nation, to see the abuses against Donald Trump so that we can sit there, and what Trump says, it’s not about him, this is about, this should never happen to another president.”

Schiff led the House's impeachment investigation into Trump and was the lead impeachment manager presenting the case against Trump on the Senate floor. Brennan, who led the CIA under President Barack Obama, has been one of Trump's sharpest critics and is under scrutiny for his role in the investigation into possible criminal conspiracy between the 2016 Trump campaign and Russia.

Bannon also demanded the whistleblower be subpoenaed for questions about his actions in the lead-up to the impeachment investigation. Some Republicans have called foul after it was revealed the whistleblower, known to be a CIA analyst, met with a member of Schiff's staff before filing his complaint.

Bannon, the host of the podcast War Room, said Trump's lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, should bring forward any information he had about former Vice President Joe Biden, his son Hunter, and the Ukrainian gas company that employed the younger Biden.

"We need to vet this, and I think the Senate Judiciary is the place to start. You bring ... Rudy Giuliani, let him have two days on national TV in a formal setting, and let him be cross. Let him put all the information he has up there," Bannon said.

Bannon claimed the impeachment investigation was an attempt by Democrats to remove Trump because they don't believe they could beat him at the ballot box in November.

“They don’t have another alternative. There’s nobody on that stage that’s going to beat Donald Trump. There’s no set of policies that people galvanize around that’s going to beat Donald Trump. His economic program is working, his 'America First' national security policy is working. And Trump triggers them," he said.
