O.K. cent - then see if you can deal with this without redirecting to President Bush.

I would appear that when a major executive of an Agency has to take the fifth when asked about the actions of her Agency - when the head of that Agency lies (or is amazingly inept) about the storage of data to conform with the law - that would be something we should be concerned about.

With the current climate in Congress, I don't fault anyone for taking the fifth. If our Congresspersons want to do an honest investigation I would support them; however, as long as then continue the partisan witch hunts I think anyone would be smart to take the fifth.

There are many, many issues worth considering. "Bush" cannot be the answer to all.

No one suggested he was the "answer to all" and to suggest anyone has is a LIE. Some might call it "fair play".  He did lie us into war, committed war crimes according to many and enabled the housing crash.  Certainly a few of the "many, many issues worth considering".

You are quite right, it is foolish to underfund the IRS. The return to taxpayers in return for funds provided to the IRS is about 3 to 1.

I present an analogy:

good alology, except the ones providing the "three-dollars-es" are the very rich and they own the Republican Party these days.

lk - how do you get from, "I would appear that when a major executive of an Agency has to take the fifth when asked about the actions of her Agency - when the head of that Agency lies (or is amazingly inept) about the storage of data to conform with the law - that would be something we should be concerned about" to congressional politicalization??

Did she not take the fifth, did he not have any idea as to where his agencies data disappeared to?

Now some right wing members of congress, like Texas senator Ted Cruz, are calling for the impeachment of AG Eric Holder. Despite evidence that the missing emails of Lois Lerner are not part of a massive cover up, the GOP is pursuing this with all the dogged determination of the Watergate panel trying to uncover the massive cover up in the Nixon White House.

A case worth looking at closely is the one filed by Catherine Engelbrecht of True the vote.  With a little research you can look at the evidence.
It make no difference if you are on the left or the right, we should not fear the government.

HOUSTON, TX. -- October 23, 2015: True the Vote (TTV), the nation's leading voters’ rights and election integrity organization, today released a statement in response to the U.S. Department of Justice’s disclosure that its investigation into IRS targeting of tax-exempt groups has closed.

This is the act of a lawless Administration. Consider all we’ve already seen on their watch, from the Fast and Furious murders to Benghazi and Hillary Clinton’s abuse of top secret emails -- the FBI’s  closing of their investigation is par for course in the Obama Administration, where criminals walk free and honest Americans fear their government,” True the Vote Founder Catherine Engelbrecht said.

To say there is no evidence of discrimination makes a grand mockery of all the hearings held over the past two years, when average citizens testified before Congress about IRS targeting. There is a trail of documentation that clearly shows the abuse of American citizens who’d been singled for their perceived political views. The evidence is all readily available. Yet, this very minute I’ve still not been interviewed about the abuses we endured because the DOJ has refused to meet with me unless they can pack the room with the same group of lawyers who are currently fighting against True the Vote by defending the IRS in court,”

Engelbrecht continued.

“The FBI has failed to protect the interests of the American people, choosing instead to help a political party tidy up loose ends before a presidential election. But come November, voters can do what bureaucrats won’t – they can choose to clean house in DC and end the rampant lawlessness of an Administration that is corroding our Country from the inside out.”

True the Vote’s lawsuit against the IRS continues with hearings before the U.S. Court of Appeals in D.C. in early 2016.

Maybe you and Catherine don't undertand what the Justice Department said.  There was mismanagement at the IRS but nothing "criminal".  Maybe you both can advocate for another dozen or so hearingss/investigations on the matter, but again, according to your's and catherine's Justice Department, nothing criminal was found.  So sorry.

Re: Republicans chase fake IRS scandal, but ignore the real IRS scandal

The problem is the GOPers are trying to pillory the IRS for enforcing the Law - the law that says the organization's tax exempt status is forfeit if they engage in ANY political activity.

For a long time, IRS has used an "internal memo" that changed "ANY" in the law to "a whole lot of", and let numerous political organizations get tax exemptions for pretending to be "educational".

When the violations of the law got to the point the organization was using ALL if its resources for political activity, as was the case with the Teabaggers, IRS finally stepped in, and of course were jumped by the power mad GOPers in Congress who are terrified that the baggers will get the KochBros to finance a primary challenge that will take away the jobs they are not qualified to hold and they'll have to try and work for a living.

So the reality is the GOPers are wasting millions of tax dollars inventing rationals for them to slash IRS funding so their GOPerLords will not have to worry about being audited because there won't be any auditors. that is even more effective way to prevent Uberrich tax cheats from being caught than jrbush's approach of ordering the IRS to spend more time checking busboys and waitresses tip jars and less time routing around in trust funds and derivative trading.
