umbarch64 - Their end goal is to get rid of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid et al as anything available through the Government or under Government regulation of any sort.  One more nail to keep people where they belong.

If healthcare federal support is block granted, state's are on their own.  Currently, if there are natural disasters, epidemics, etc. that raise costs, the federal government guarantees that extra needed coverage.  Ryancare gets rid of that guarantee and would require states to ask Congress for the additional help needed.  They would on a case by case basis determine expenditures.  Meanwhile, people will die and that has always made fiscal sense to Ryan.

Before the elections, I cautioned not to become fixated on "the donald" and lose sight of what was happening in the rest of the RRR Cadre in Congress.

Ryan and McConnell are NOT moderates.  We should not allow the RRR to portray them that way. Their end goal is to get rid of Social Security, Medicare, Midicaid et al as anything available through the Government or under Government regulation of any sort.  One more nail to keep people where they belong.

Anyone who approves of Block Grants for Medicaid have no memory of that is how the FED quit funding for Mental Health in this country.

What is not clearly defined in Ryan's plan is if the Block Grant has to be used for healthcare.    I'd wager a nickel that the answer is NO and that leaves GOV to option of cutting taxes and then filling the  budget gap with $$$ from the Block Grant and nothing for Healthcare  for people / children.

And yes, people will die faster with this plan.

RYANCARE TO REPLACE OBAMACARE

I'm reposting this excerpt from today's NY Times' editorial since my original post disappeared (technical difficulty?). It's a nice summary of what the GOP House came up with as an Obamacare replacement after 8 years.  To me it's also a good example of how the GOP takes every opportunity to funnel more money to the rich over the middle & lower-income groups.

  • "President Trump promised to replace the Affordable Care Act with something that is better, is cheaper and covers more people. Scratch that. Republican leaders in the House and Mr. Trump’s secretary of health and human services released a plan last week that would provide insurance that is far inferior, shift more medical costs onto families and cover far fewer people.

  • In a halfbaked policy paper released on Thursday, the House speaker, Paul Ryan, trotted out washedup ideas for “improving” the country’s health care system that would do anything but. For example, the paper calls for reducing spending on Medicaid, which now provides insurance to more than 74 million poor, disabled and older people. Many millions of them would be cast out of the program. The Republican plan would also force most people who don’t get their health insurance through an employer to pay more by slashing subsidies that the A.C.A., or Obamacare, now provides. The proposal would allow families to sock away more money in health savings accounts, which may sound good at first but would primarily benefit affluent people who can afford to save more."
