As most know, both the House & Senate tax "reform" versions target Blues by eliminating the important state/local tax deductions.  That of course results in double taxation.

Now, according to the NY Times, the Senate version also includes a measure that provides a employee credit for paid family and medical leave.

  • "But the final version doesn’t apply to employers in states where such paid leave is either required — or will soon be required — by state law, as in New York, California, New Jersey and Rhode Island."

So one pays extra state/local taxes for such favorable state laws but can't deduct those taxes federally under the GOP heist.  And then one can't even replace the state benefit with the federal one allowed other states.

I realize this particular tax feature is small potatoes but a good example of how ludicrous things have become.

Add these new tax-law attacks on Blue-states to the fact that Blues have continuously subsidized Reds on a "taxes paid vs federal funds received back" basis.  Then consider that most Blue-state voters have sharply reduced representation.  So much so that the voting minority in this country got to choose THEIR president twice in recent years and now dominate SCOTUS.

How do we stop the tyranny of the minority & have any semblance of a democracy?

Yup, NYS will feel this.  Another raping of Americans by the Republican Party and its criminal leader.

Gee, I miss having a real president!

Terrific article Panjandrum, thanks.  I'm still wondering how we can legally counter this.  The Blues are the majority & pay the bills but the Reds & Plutocrats/Corporations control the election outcomes due our undemocratic electoral system and rightwing laws like Citizens United.

Blue states DO subsidize red states when you compare the state outflows and inflows BUT to counter that, the red states have subsidized the blue states for many years through the deductions allowed on federal income tax returns for the onerous high state income and real estate taxes in those blue states.

When you net it out, I'm sure the red states were subsidizing the blue states.  Now you must get your blue states to CONTROL COSTS (no double dipping pensions for state workers/teachers and limit numbers of administrators/superintendents for schools) which will lower your state taxes.

Do you know the difference between the blue and red states. If you want to see what a red state is like as to the people who live there and support Trump. Go see the movie Three Billboards. That is a red state and has the typical Trump supporter in it and you will see them in the film. It will explain why some one like Trump could get elected, and it is scary.

Blue states have large cities with Democrat criminals and illegal aliens which is the bulk of their base. The others are the 47% who pay zero income taxes and complain when there is a President who wants to give a tax break to those actually paying taxes.  Those that don't pay taxes want more freebies and no lowering of taxes (since they don't pay any).

Facts. The Blue states provide the wealth, and thinking people that have made this country grow. There are pockets of thinking people in Red States like the large cities in Texas, Ga, La etc. Sadly as shown in the movie Three Billboards you have the rest of the red. Go see the movie and look at the far right Reb. in their home places. This is the group that is now destroying the country under our President with mental problems. From the movie most of them have mental problems.

right. and nothing else happens in thos cities except crime. if this passes,  ann the yankees will move south and conquer the south once again by flipping them to blue states and showing their citizens what equal justice means, raise the pay in right to work state, and let the confederates go hid in the abanoned ruins of the north where the infrastructure is crumbling th worst. It will be nice to see them learn how to deal with the expense of snow removal and a heating season while yankees rachet up the profits from their old bussinnesses down south and maintain a tax base designed to screw them.. of course these ne red states..we will be proberly able to call the the snowflake states..will then whine about their situation again.

So it begins.

No the word is used as it should be in this case. The far right Reb. did not need the votes of anyone from those states so they could make the new tax laws hurt the people living in those states and still get the bill passed, and it worked. Where do you think they got enough money to stay under the cap needed to pass the bill with 51 votes. By hurting the blue states. Why don't you tell us what is the source of our many financial problems caused by the flower children.
