Are you claiming that there were 586 murders by police officers??

Either you are claiming 586 murders by police or 586 justified shootings. Or do you have a third category?

LOL....it's a laugh when Rk claims it's either black or white, his way or the opposite,,,,,no greys.....nothing in the middle,,,,it couldn't be 586 injustifiable shootings or unnecessary killings now, could it? .....there could be 6 or 7 other category;s.....does it matter?  This database is simply a list of virtually all persons killed by the police....like the innocent US soldier shot in the back in the Mall in Alabama on our national day of Thanks,, and the kid shot in the back in Pittsburgh.....or Jordan Edwards of Texas shot in the back of the head in the passenger seat leaving a party.  Was that a "justified shooting"?  No, it was murder.

We're now over 937......

We have arrived at the point when there is no more logic so the giggles begin.

"Justifiable killing or not" is a binary decision.

The thing is how the database is used, for instance posting only the totals is misleading because it leaves the picture of law enforcement being trigger-happy.  Even breaking down to indicating what the deceased is armed with, or if armed, with can be misleading as well.

Even with using the database a person would have to go through each individual circumstance to actually see details of why there was a shooting.  And the Washington Post isn't doing justice to the database since they start off with a big headline in a billboard font with the number, then lesser font of  "people have been shot and killed by police in 2018".  That would indicate media hype to draw attention without considering the information.

My quick analysis meant that I just looked at the database without examining the data that was used to arrive at it.  The analysis used for this thread was to look at the billboard number of 937 and then to spread that in a negative way.

Of course you have to defend the liberal mantra here don't you?

Of course this is just a quick analysis, but better than just posting totals with explanation.  We wouldn't want to be giving out false information would we?  Unless it was to cast reflections on our law enforcement personnel.

Your "quick analysis" doesn't mention one who was running away unarmed and was shot in the back multiple times. So are you "giving false information" by not mentioning that?

The poster of this topic posted the entire data base for all to see, that is not biased and is not  painting  a negative picture of all police.

As in previous years here the totals are being posted without an analysis of whether the victim was armed or not.  Looking at the data base whether there was a weapon gives a better picture, but not complete without the circumstances of the incident.

There were many ways the deceased was armed, the main ones was 499 involving the deceased with a gun, 8 involving gun and car and 8 with gun and knife.   There were 139 where just a knife was involved; 29 with a toy weapon; 9 with a machete; 40 where the deceased was unarmed; 30 with a vehicle; 53 undetermined; 25 with an unknown weapon; 41 where if there was blank.  The weapon for the rest was miscellaneous type weapons.

Just giving the overall figures without looking at the individual circumstances doesn't give a true figure of the statistics unless one wanted to paint a negative picture of law enforcement.

Only minds infected with hate would accuse someone of being a cop hater who posts a data base with all of it's contents for anyone to study.

Have you looked at the data in this data base? Have you looked at the methodology used in compiling this data base? There is a link to the methodology used and separate links to each year back to and including 2015. It is quite complete, much more complete than the police data base that contains just over half of actual fatalities. The data base is quite complete, listing complete circumstances of each incident, the race sex and age of each victim, whether or not they were armed (many were completely unarmed), what they were armed with, etc. etc.  It is an excellent source to educate one's self about the proper and improper actions taken by police across our nation.

Do those who call others here police haters also call those who create and update this data base "police haters"? If so ........ why?

The "police hater" comment is baiting, slandering, hateful, attacking, totally unjustified and in my opinion only one obsessed with hate would use such a term.

The list is used to convey an erroneous impression of police officers. No, the "list" does not.  The "list" shows each incident and all of it's circumstances for anyone with intelligence to read and discern if any killing was necessary or not. The vast majority are. If you interpret the data base to "convey an erroneous impression", it's in your own mind. If there are unjustified shootings - by all means expose them. Many of those shot and killed were unarmed, yes the data base exposes that, but the data base is not "used to convey an erroneous impression of the police". But to lump them all together only offers the opportunity to those who desire to do so (for whatever reason) to show police in a bad light. Sorry you "lump them all together" instead of differentiating by the detailed information provided.   You see .......... You are the one "lumping them all together", not the data base nor the person who posted this data base here.

The list is used to convey an erroneous impression of police officers. Only to those who are obstinately intolerant of the actual purpose of the database....I think that would include several Conservatives here.  .If there are unjustified shootings - by all means expose them. When done, one poster whines incessantly and does their best to defend the cop.  It is YOU who attempts to make simple data something it isn't.  But to lump them all together only offers the opportunity That's funny coming from a trump supporter who supports EVERY distortion of facts offered by trump and attempts to defend him.  Good....I'm pleased you understand and "feel" the hypocrisy.
