The Federal law on employment compliance can only mandate compliance for those employers with Federal contracts - meaning E-Verify.

Each state has to mandate the types of employers who must E-Verify their employees.  Some states refused to mandate any such thing -

Some states only mandate their employers with state contracts.

Some states, a few, mandate that ever employer use E-Verify.

The Feds audit their federal contractors for compliance.

The states with a mandate audit the employers which the mandate covers - all or just the state contractors.

My state is one of the very few who mandates all employers must use the E-Verify system.

When there is a suspicion, an investigation begins and if there is cause a raid happens - records are confiscated, employees without proper paperwork are detained for further info.

If found that the employer has ineligible ( improper or undocumented ) workers - the determination of whether the offense is civil or criminal has to be made based on the situation particulars.

We were once building a new high school in a city not far away.  Law enforcement and ICE showed up - the  claim was proven and it was not just a mistake - criminal charges and a huge fine was placed on this subcontractor and the company lost the whole job.

The Federal law can only be enforced with the help of the states because the states are the ones that can extend the E-Verify law to those employers in their state.

Everyone agrees there needs to be changes in the laws, and there needs to be enforcement of humane laws. With that is mind what good does it do to go back and talk about the current laws and what the Fed are or are not doing. That is a total waste of time. What should be happening is we are all working on solving the problem. The first step to do that is get rid of Trump in 2020 by not voting for any one with an R behind their name. The first pre step is working to make sure we put an end to the Reb. voter suppression in states. The real winner of the GA Gov. election was on TV the other night and went into great detail on what happened in GA by the current Gov. to steal the election.

It is a "federal" crime to employ a foreigner that does not have a federal work permit.

If our feds enforced that law our illegal immigrant problem would no longer exist. If those people cannot work here they leave, none come.

So that begs the question....why don't our feds enforce it?

Note: All countries have that law. Ours is the only one that does not enforce it. That is the only reason we are the only country with an illegal immigrant problem.

I heard today something very interesting. There was an interview On Morning Joe with the son of an Evangelist pastor, and they were asking him as to why Evangelists were not following the bible and its teachings.

He explained that Evangelists work towards and end and that the means are acceptable in order to reach their goals.

I fount those words not only astounding but surprising and in many ways unacceptable.

So they see Trump as the means to obtain what they think is right?
Sorry, but will continue to call them Those Evangelists the ones with those flexible morals.

Thanks so much Controlled for exposing what Jesus and the Bible have to say about the current Republican approach to immigration and our treatment of the poor in general. How any Republican can summon up the chutzpah to claim being Christian is just another example of their inability to learn, connect dots and deal with reality.

@Olderscout66  Anyone who actually reads and comprehends what the Holy Bible says, knows we have been told about those false prophescy?!

Thank you for the sanity Controlled.  Now trump is going after those who are here legally, are actually working, and have applied for citizenship. And naturally his base (cult) cheers.

Republicans have always considered immigrants nothing more than w means to keep wages as low as possible, which is why Cadet Bonespurs will NEVER acknowledge the CAUSE of 90% of our undocumented worker population - the extreme efforts by the Corporate Oligarchs to lure people to America with a promise of a good job and a great life, only to use and abuse them, using the threat of deportation to keep them quiet while they make their slave masters richer.

But hey, GOPerBase thinks Benghazi lasted more than 95 minutes and had nothing to do with the anti-Mohammad video the GOPers produced and distributed. That being the case, they'll believe anything that lets them hate more and think less.

No, he is saying that he doesn't want DEPENDENT immigrants getting green cards.

As had been stated several times here, there are already loses in place to address that. Poor people dependent on federal programs don’t get green cards.

He is NOT looking for more people to depend on the federal government for handouts and of course they would become Democrats looking for more freebies as Democrats do (as I have posted many time in the past)!

I saw today so many idiotic responses by Trump regarding this issue that I wondered if he really was doing them on purporse.
Having been thru the process and over the years dealing with the process  of obtaining green cards. I don't know where he gets his facts.
1.-When you migrate into the US you usually do it in a couple of ways. One is by having a sponsor that will become financially responsible for yo so that you won't fall into the welfare rolls. therefore, Immigrant  do have to present proofs that their sponsors are not there or whatever in order to obtain welfare.

If you migrate into the US like we did without a sponsor you really have to have money in the bank that will be sufficient that you will not become indigents and will have to ask for welfare.
Those laws have existed for years. so why now Trump is saying that immigrants cannot get welfare an that they have to have money to migrate when all of this has always been in the laws?

If you were familiar with all the real news that has been going on with the illegals invading our country (and yes, when they come in by the thousands and overwhelm our system they ARE invading) Pres Trump is saying this because the Alt Left Socialists are working to get free everything for these people (even over our own American citizens in need).

You tell us - are the Socialist Liberals obeying these laws that have 'existed for years' as you say?  NO! They want American citizens to support them with our taxes; they want them to get free welfare to support them; they want them to get free healthcare to support them; they want them to get an immediate driver's license (wonder if Socialists care about insurance or do American citizens have to 'support them' by paying for that also); Socialists want them to be automatically eligible to vote (the Conservatives know why the Socialists are pushing for that, but what happened to taking classes to 'become' an American citizen...knowing about our country, understanding our laws, and what we stand for, and assimilate into our country (instead of just coming for free goodies)?

If someone has to ask that question, maybe it's time to really listen to all sides of this immigration debate and not just 'trust' the one you do now?  I used to do just that until I eventually (after researching it a lot) found out who was reporting the facts and who was just telling their own side how THEY saw it.
