PEOPLE TAKE HEED

This mess with the USPS is all about money and money problems - these problems with the USPS didn't start yesterday - they started way back in the early 2000's or maybe even earlier because by the early 2000's they were already running a deficit.

GOVERNMENT makes these rules and then when problems become apparent they are slow to react - maybe they never react - there is always some political pro or con that keeps them (regardless of party) from doing the hard job of legislating - politics and legislating are two different things.

Legislating is the action - many times brought about by compromise.  They introduce a bill that is designed to fix a problem then they have to work very hard to convince others that this is good legislation - the legislation may even go thru many rewrite to get something that will pass - wheeling, dealing, horse trading, what did we use to call it "pork".  Some thing are more important to fix than giving some Congressman some little something his district might need.

TODAY it is the U.S. POSTAL SERVICE financial problems -

TOMORROW it is gonna be the SOCIAL SECURITY financial problems.

And probably somewhere in between it will be Medicare's financial problems

Things have a way of catching up to us - we have been warned for a very long time - but still the powers that be just fight and hate - SOON we will have to pay the piper.

I completely agree with Gail.   We need to change the business models of both institutions.

Stop pretending the USPS can be a break even enterprise. It can not. As soon as it finds a way to generate income, a private enterprise will adopt that market. It is a service for the residents of America and should be funded as such.

Stop pretending Social Security is an addition to retirement income only when needed.  If that is the model, put in a guaranteed minimum income and get rid of all the extra bureaucracy.

Before jrbush and the Republicans began their serious War to Destroy the Post Office with their legislation beginning in 2003, the USPS HAD TURNED A SIZABLE PROFIT for 5 straight years! USPS has not received a dime of appropriated tax money since 1971.

To save the USPS:

STEP 1. Get rid of all elected Republicans

STEM 2. Force the Democrats to repeal jrbush's disastrous legislation that has prevented USPS from any innovations to improve profitability and requires them to pre-finance the retirement costs for people who have not yet been BORN!

STEP 3. Enjoy the return of Freedom and Decency to the American Government.

Do not expect anything serious being done when the climate in this country is so divided.

When this is all over  and common sense returns to our Legislative Branches then you will see this country funchingin again.

Yes they all have problems that have been manufactured by Republicans.

We can fix the problems.

First we must remove Republicans from power in government.

You are 100% wrong. The current mess with the USPS was created by Trump period. If you want to see the full run down go watch the Rachel Maddow show on MSNBC , and Don Lemon on CNN tonight. They cover it step by step, item by item.

It's not a matter of Maddow or MSNBC KidBoy2.

Well known facts and Trump's very own admission that he intends to destroy the Post Office renders all the credibility needed!!!

All should believe facts, and that is what she and DON have. Facts which you can not change no matter how hard you try. Trump lies over 90% of the time FACT. His followers repeat what Trump says so that tells all about Trump and his full crew.

No question the current problem was manufactured by Trump to suppress voter turnout during a pandemic.    The longer term problems go back to the idea that we must run government like a business.   This stuff goes back to the seventies, probably when Nixon was President, it was made much worse in 2006 while Bush was President.

The Post Office has been adapting to a changing world, it's Republicans that are stuck in the past.

We want to modernize the Post Office,  sure,  but not three months before an election during a pandemic,  this stuff can wait until 2021.

I agree that the Postal service has had money problems for a long time which were caused by Congress. The situation now though is outright sabotage. Removing 23, I think,  top executives, once again on a Friday night, decommissioning over 600 sorting machines, and now actually removing our corner mail boxes. The USPS is a service, not a business and is written into the Constitution. Our taxes support it, all citizens use it, and Trump should face charges for admitting to trying to restrict voting. He is attacking the core of our democracy.  I have always enjoyed walking to my local polling place but decided that in this year of Covid 19 I would mail my ballot in. Now I'm not sure what I'll do. I urge AARP to use its power and influence to fight for its members who depend on the postal service.
