How about this - instead of putting all of us into socialized medicine, why not create a "poor peoples" VA type government agency?

Most countries with a universal healthcare system don't "put you in" that system. In countries like Canada some choose to pay for private insurance as an added measure and choose if they want a physician inside or outside the system. A vast majority go with the national system.

I have Medicaid - I have to. I also pay for private insurance. Similar to the system you describe. However, we are talking about people who may not have the ability to buy insurance so the idea is to give it to them but have someone else pay. That is not the same system you describe.

Having a "'poor peoples' VA type government agency" sounds like a substitute for Medicaid.

Or fix Medicaid without messing with the existing system that works just fine for many people

Aren't VA hospitals "owned" by the government, and doctors and nurses are government employees? That's sounds more like socialism than Medicare (For All).

It may be but it still allows the productive to provide for their needs and the government to provide for the others.

Most major industrialized nations have a Medicare type program - private doctors and nurses and privately owned hospitals. The "VA-type" system sounds more like Cuba, to me.

I think you know that I am not suggesting a VA type program for all - the Cuban approach. The VA system is not for everyone, you have to qualify. The same would apply for a separate system for those that the government designates as qualifying for free care.

Why do you expect the rest of us to pay for your medical care?

More Fox nonsense from RK who regurgitates everything they tell him. Never ask him to come up with an original thought. RK believes Medicaid was created by Obamacare. Here's a newsflash for him, Medicaid's been around since 1965.

What made Obamacare unique was the following. For the first time, it gave Americans who didn't have employee sponsored healthcare, an opportunity to BUY HEALTH INSURANCE. And guess what? All of the insurance companies on the Obamacare Exchanges around the country were PRIVATE COMPANIES. It was Free Enterprise in action.

It wasn't and it isn't socialized medicine. That's a myth which Fox helped perpetuate. Since Trump supporters watch Fox seven days a week, they believe that myth.

Wouldn't you be talking about Medicare?  I'm required to participate in Part B for me to be covered by  Tricare for Life.

There it is again - Fox living in your head. Try to flush them out and just exchange thoughts between us.

You want the government to use tax payer money to provide for the health care needs of the poor. Fine - why not just do that without mixing up everybody else's insurance situation in the package?

We already have Medicaid - there is a good start. Or we have the VA - another model to follow.

As the Trump administration continues its war on health coverage for Americans, the cartoon will be more accurate.  Trump continues to hammer away at the idea of comprehensive health care and prefers the "emergency room model" also favored by the GOP.  The result is the most expensive health care in the world coupled with less than middle of the road results.  Even Cuba and Bosnia have better health care outcomes that the United States.

A Public Option is probably what is needed.

Hey PanJ, you might want to inform ct that an earned pension from one's employer is hardly "socialiism(?)".

This is one of rk's more hilarious statements. He doesn't want anything to do with socialized (government controlled) medicine, he wants a VA type government controlled agency. Make up your mind rk......do you want government medicine, or would you rather have government medicine? ROFL

Try to follow the logic. He does not want government controlled medical care. However, if the government is going to pay for it, the government has to have some control. His proposal allows the poor to get the free stuff that some think they should get but leaves those of us paying our own bills to not have government control.

What is hilarious or worthy of an ROLF about that? Seems quite logical to rk.
