Government programs to aid the American people are ALWAYS more cost effective than for-profit alternatives.

It's the difference between a workforce driven by a desire for public service and one managed by those totally devoted to greater profit for the managers.

A Public Option does not need to eliminate private insurance, the people buying insurance will do that, or bring them around to considering their policy holders welfare above the ever growing income of Management. This "customer first" is the case in every other Nation with some form of private health insurance and it works because nobody else has Republicans obstructing their Government.

I would strongly suggest everyone stop, think, and learn about this subject. The support article is an opinion article not a fact article and that is a bad start for this subject. Long Term Care coverage was added to Medicare some years ago, and the people covered by Medicare rejected it, and it was withdrawn. Someone go research out the details. For long term coverage to work you have to have everyone covered. young, middle age, older. That makes the cost reasonable, and with out that the cost will be very high if you buy it when you are older. You need the young in the program.

Trump has been destroying the ACA for 2 years now. Mostly by regulation changes. That should start to hit everyone in the next year or so, and it might be a real wake up call. The next President is going to spend their first 4 years undoing the damage Trump has caused to health care just to save what we have. You have to build on the ACA as so many of what everyone likes depends on the ACA, and yes that includes Medicare covered people to. All want no pre EX in their coverage. The ACA does that, and did you know rule changes made by Trump will bring it back before to long, or you will see a premium increase that will cause all a big shock. In the end the ACA will become a medicare for all type plan because that is the only type that will do the job. We have that type now, and have had it for a 100 years. Just go to the ER and you will be treated whether you can pay or not. I call it ER care. The most expensive and gives the poorest results of all the parts of our system. We all pay for it now through Fed., State, Local taxes.

If you want to help improve health care in the US learn the  full subject of health care. Health care is not just insurance. Insurance is just a small part it only covers how you pay for the insurance part. Last but not least. There have never been a free market in insurance. There is only one way to figure the major cost of what is paid out in losses. The rate setters of all Insurance Cos. will come up with the same figure since they all use the same method, and the States oversea most of what they do. Please please learn the subject.

could not agree more. I think if it is an option, it won't take too long before those who have private insurance start to see how good Medicare is, esp. compared cost wise, they will switch over to Medicare for all option.

Note to Seniors from Dems

Medicare for All is a solid idea. However, if the Dems want to win the presidential 2020 election, they better make sure it's an OPTION for Americans. They cannot do what Sanders and E. Warren want to do, and that is, make it mandatory.

I really give credit to Dems for bringing up healthcare proposals. This is while trump and repubs are still trying to ditch the ACA, and diminish SS, MedAid, and MedCare.

Free market coverage has not and will not work to cover citizens. With either expensive or bunko policy coverage.

As far as which system will work the best, please keep it out front and talking about it, especially for Seniors, but also for all.

Remember Dems, this was popular in 2018, and is still a popular topic for voters for 2020.

Sen. Bernie Sanders is raising the stakes of the "Medicare for All" debate by expanding his proposal to include long-term care, a move that is forcing other Democratic presidential candidates to take a stand on addressing one of the biggest gaps in the U.S. healthcare system.

https://www.modernhealthcare.com/politics-policy/sanders-medicare-all-expands-long-term-care-benefit...

Five years ago, Bernie Sanders was the only Sponsor of his Medicare for All Bill.

This year, 110 members support the House version of Medicare for All, sponsored by Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

And a version from Sen. Bernie Sanders is backed by 14 senators, including four who are running for president.

Bernie leads the fight...

Long Term Healthcare is included in the "Medicare for All legislation".    Will some rethink their position on that healthcare program, why not?  https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/08/14/medicare-for-all-would-help-pay-long-term-care-wh...
