Re: NEW BAN ON MILITARY ASSAULT STYLE WEAPONS

Tex says "In the first place where is anyone going to obtain 30-50 Armor Piercing Rounds?   It is illegal to sell them.  But if you are saying that a person could buy them illegally, then what makes you think that prohibiting your Assault Rifles will stop people from obtaining them?"

-----------------------------

Assault Rifles have serial numbers , bullets dont and with your thinking I guess we should legalize cocaine / heroin etc ,  because people still get that ???

Read the above for yourself. IMHO , New York's SAFE Act is the correct and appropriate direction the entire Nation needs to head.

For pistols, you need to "recertify" your weapon every five years and the onus is on you to remember. I think this is an unnecessary requirement which many will forget and become violators by forgetting. Another "big brother" requirement.

One positive is the law is very clear and quite restrictive.

NY's law lists devices and additions to firearms that are functionally unnecessary for firearms used for target shooting, hunting, self defense and other ordinary everyday lawful uses.

National firearms laws need to be about halfway from where they are today - to where NY's law is - with mandatory state and federal background and security checks of owners of listed weapons...

Like for instance - the cowardly excrement pants filling draft dodger, self admitted pedophile, and second rate has been "musician" like unstable Ted Nugent - the moral, ethical, and intellectual creme de la creme of the GRU/FSB/SVR controlled NRA...

You are 100% correct!

However - both Massachussets' and Highland Park, Illinois' bans have been upheld as being Constitutionally valid...

Whether the reason(s) for each of the weapons listed in each of the bans was appearance or function is moot - both bans have been found to be Constitutionally valid bans.

SCOTUS - by declining to hear appeals - has in effect said that they agree with the lower court decisions upholding the bans as Constitutionally valid...

Pathetic cowardly draft dodger and second-rate has-been musician Ted Nugent can go sulk and suck a gun barrel for a pacifier...

Every state has their do's and don'ts for gun legislation. As you said, if the high court does not challenge the individual state laws, it stands. Some states have magazine limits already or guns that aren't allowed. If anyone wants national legislation passed (as Scout said), one must be clear in that legislation and not wishy washy.

Progressivews as still falling into t he NRAGOP trap of defining weapons based on their APPEARANCE instead oftheir FUNCTION, hence all the "Ugly Gun Laws" that the NRAGOP will circumvent with minor stylistic modification to the SEMI-AUTOMATIC WEAPONS THAT CAN FIRE MORE THAN 8 TIMES BEFORE RELOADING that are the source of all the mass murders, killing of innocent bystanders as the NRAGOP abets the slaughter of our kids in their schools and on our streets. Now that definition isn't perfect, but its pretty darn close. It covers everything California banned in one fell swoop and excludes handguns appropriate for home defense and sporting weapons.

But the deadliest things in our society are the NRAGOP holding office. They pass the laws that arm the thugs who slaughter our fellow citizens, and THEY MUST GO.

A Federal Judge just upheld - as Constitutional - the ban Massachussets had enacted on certain kinds and types of firearms.

Judge Upholds Massachusetts Ban on AR-15s, Other Military-Style Weapons - WSJ

Federal judge upholds Massachusetts assault weapons ban - The Boston Globe

U.S. judge upholds Massachusetts assault weapons ban

Highland Park, Illinois' ban has successfully withstood appeals - and the United States Supreme Court has declined to hear an appeal of Highland Park's ban - thereby leaving the ban standing as a Constitutional ban enacted by a local jurisdiction.

Finally some common sense realizing that Military Style Assault Weapons belong in the hands of our Military and Law Enforcement ONLY !!!

Can you describe what constitutes an assault weapon?  You conveniently left out the word "style", thus "Assault Style Weapons", not "Assault Weapons.  A bit disingenuous, don't you think?

What steps would you recommend keeping the one or two young mentally ill kids from playing Rambo with them?  Yet not affecting the millions of responsible owners and sportspeople? Actually, "responsible owners and sportspeople" have no need for a weapon with a magazine capable of holding more than 7 to 9 rounds, and no need for a weapon that can kill dozens in seconds.

Do you feel that the minority should dictate to these majority of responsible owner? Do you think that the minority should dictate to the majority who supports banning such weapons?

Assault "style" weapons? I guess that would consist of the plastic toys that look truly menacing and make loud noises? If the left wants to ban certain weapons, then state clearly what you want to ban. If it's magazines that hold more than 8 rounds, say it that way. If you want to ban AR (style) weapons, you must be specific as to the number of rounds and muzzle energy. Just suggestions for those that want to ban assault "style" weapons. No one knows what an assault "style" weapon is except you. Is it the way the weapon looks?

As a matter of fact, a town, city, county or state could constitutionally ban plastic toys shaped a particular way or in imitation - if the majority so desired.

There were a couple of communities that banned Harry Potter Nimbus 2000 brooms when dim-witted adults finally figured out just why it was so popular with young witches...

Thank you for your reply ...................... I didn't see any rational reason to.
