@MaVolta

He makes sense and would like to hear more in the future from Rep. Eric.

Back to Pelosi, it would appear that the Dems now have their own version of the freedom caucus...the five white guys. Of the protest group, New Rep. Cortez said it best...mostly guys, no real diversity, no plan! We did not elect new Dem Reps to just tear stuff up and make protest votes against Pelosi. I hope they show good sense, unity, and if they also show leadership, change can happen.

Don’t divide, unite! Be better than the repubs.

Rep Eric Swalwell (CA-D) made the case for Nancy Pelosi to keep her job on Bill Maher's Real Time. At 38, he is considered one of the rising stars of the D-Party. He is considering a run for president in 2020.

@Centristsin2010

Right on. May we have “thoughtful productive” change versus the “radical idiotic” change that we have gotten from trump for the last two years. And let’s not snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

I’m looking forward to some change and new people in charge, but overall Pelosi has done a pretty decent job during her tenure as speaker, and has just helped win control of the House back.

Yes, she should help promote some new people to help run the House, Dems, and Country. But please consider that over the last two years it might have been difficult to groom people while fending off trump, ryan, the freedom caucus yo-yos while working to help elect Dems to the House.

It’s time for some change, who will step up to show leadership?

Semi-relevant, i.e., slightly off-topic.

Tweeted November 9, 2018:

…Nancy Pelosi garnered 85.74% of the November 6, 2018 votes, almost 5% more than her previous victory. More than two/thirds of the candidates endorsed by Trump lost their bids.

Tweeted 27 Mar 2017:
Hey, @potus. Here's a winner! In the 2016 election, @NancyPelosi won her race with 80.9% of the vote.

If she was responsible for hiring a new leader, then what you said would have some merit, but she is not.  Somebody needs to take some personal accountability and step up to be a leader.  She cannot simply choose a new "leader" for everybody else, that is a recipe for disaster.  You cannot blame her for the weakness of others.

Thank you for the topic, it is pertinent and current to politics today.  I also think that Pelosi has done a decent job as a leader.  However, I think it is time for her to let go and allow the Party to change and evolve to something more representative of the democratic (and Independent) electorate.  The electorate is moving to the left, towards the progressive side. Pelosi is entrenched and will not get on board with the change that has already started. We need a Speaker of the House that will embrace the progressives in the Party and help bring about the things that progressives in the electorate desire. Most of the nation is in favor of:

Universal Single Payer Health Care

Raising taxes back up on the wealthiest in our nation and giving breaks to the middle class and below

Deep and meaningful campaign finance reform including overturning Citizens United

Protect Social Security and other safety nets.

Reasonable and compassionate immigration reform

Good points, Chas.  It's worthy to note that none of the above except for Universal Healthcare, are "leftest" positions.....they are all moderate and Centrist positions that most can agree.

Welcome back.  And Yes, it's a shame that the things I have listed are considered by many as "Progressive" or "Leftist" today.

Again the biggest failure for Pelosi, is not having groomed her replacement. a person that could handle the Democrats but a new leader that would understand the challenges of a new generation.

It is not up to Pelosi to find a new leader, it is up to an individual to step forward to assume the mantle.  Once a new leader has stepped forward, Pelosi can help them become a better leader, but it is not up to her to choose one.
