Yes, john258, I am aware that contrary to many posters here that the initial application process has been speed up.  However, those that do not meet the credible reasoning are being deported and those that are processed through have a very long road before the final determination for asylum is reached.

Yes, charities need to get ready and that ER care you rave about needs to get ready too - this is a messed up process as compared to how refugees are processed and welcomed to their new country.

Those that are lucky enough to either hire their own lawyer or to have one of the many volunteer lawyers to represent them have a much better chance of getting asylum.

The Pew Research Council says that only 10% of those that make application and pass the initial credibility test eventually get asylum status - I figure many of those are women fleeing domestic violence situations - probably more women than men.  As my VOA link pointed out many are under the wrong impression of how asylum works and who qualifies for it.

Who is giving these people this misinformation?

Now all we have to do is protect our citizens in the service and construction industry from losing their jobs to these folks who will accept employment at a much lower rate and few states enforce the EVerify procedure for all their employers.  I know many people in the construction industry - roofers, carpenters, Sheetrock, painters, etc. and they are worried -

You have no idea how that is being applied, and you rely on more reading. Well reports here on what is happening currently is they hold a hearing give a court date and release which is not what they were doing under Trump, and not what Trump said he would do. It is  only a messed up process due to the fact we have a President named Trump who we were told to night by his JD committed a crime which is something anyone who followed him new all along. What we need to do now is clean up the Fed. Govt. by moving on our criminally uninitiated President, and move on States that allow the same type of conduct like NC, GA., FL. Then we can move to solve the problems in CAmerica where these people are coming from so they will not run for their lives. You talk about protecting our Citizens from loosing their jobs. Well more of our Citizens loose their jobs due to State right to work laws than these new people. When will GA get rid of it law? As far as giving these people misinformation could be  the same people giving the people of states like NC,MS,FL,GA information on how to vote. Solve this problem by getting an honest President would be a start, and that could be 2 years away.

Thanks, just read about the troops staying  - many sources said until the end of January had been approved by the Pentagon (Mattis).

Hopefully, playing volleyball is all they have to do since many in the caravan are leaving and the Border Patrol seem to have the ones entering at another point under control.

Volleyball has always been a favorite pastime during whatever leisure time is available.  Some apparently thinks that it is all work or duty in the military.  Apparently some would deny this downtime to the troops.  It hasn't been a picnic, but hasn't been a waste since it exposes them to practical training for combat areas.

These troops have been mostly from the Engineer Corps that was tasked with constructing the concentra wire so their jobs are pretty well finished.  There has been Military Police deployed also for security along with medical personnel.

You do know ICE is processing people giving them a court date and turning them loose inside the USA faster than before now. They provide no help to them as before. They drive them to the nearest help center maned by volunteers. ICE has told those people their budget has been cut. That has been happening on the Texas and New Mexico  border. One needs to look at the full scope before posting.

Actually, I was aware of that. We have lots of churches and civic groups providing basic necessities and transportation into the interior. The assumption is that Trump will continue to be as incompetent as he has been and they will all be lost to the bureaucracy.  I mean, if you take kids and then can't figure where you put the parents, losing a whole family that does not want to be found is easy. Right?

We do still have a problem with this asylum seeking process - legislators need to take this issue on.   Many of these people from the Northern Triangle are confused about what asylum is and how to prove their case - thus many of them, perhaps most, never get asylum.

They certainly seem to be breaking camp.  I doubt Trump will have them all recalled as that would make it PAINFULLY obvious it was a political stunt only expected to last until the day after the election. I would point out that the deployment was expected to end 12/15 and now it is extended. No doubt because of the hordes of families with children assaulting the border defenses on a daily basis.

This has been great theatre to watch. I just wish Trump had sent a few clerical types  but that would have been the competent move and, at best, we can expect more volleyball nets.
