White House Vegetable Garden

Michelle Obama and chef Sam Kass plant the garden with the help of Bancroft Elementary School fifth graders in 2009.

The White House has had multiple vegetable gardens since its completion in 1800. Eleanor Roosevelt, Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama all have had their own versions of vegetable gardens. Roosevelt planted the White House victory garden during World War II to promote the use of victory gardens by American citizens in a time of possible food scarcity. Hillary Clinton had a vegetable garden constructed on the roof of the White House. On March 20, 2009 Michelle Obama broke ground on the largest and most expansive vegetable garden to date on the White House lawn.[1]

The current garden is funded by a $2.5-million donation provided in 2016 by Burpee Seeds and The Burpee Foundation.[2]

Re: MRS. TRUMP'S GREAT IDEA

That was funny...its like this was the first WH garden and a try to slam our first lady.

Well, it WILL be the only thing accomplished under the Trump administration so I guess that is something.

But Trump didn't do it .... his wife did.

As such ... Trump accomplishments still at zero!

The timing couldn't be more "perfect"  ( a word the DON uses quite often )  when 40 million are unemployed and multi-millionaires like McConnell are "negotiating" whether people unemployed will lose their homes...cause he doesn't LIKE spending money on citizens in need.....only billionaires who don't need it via tax breaks.

Reminds me of a SONG I'll dedicate to  Melania....

She's not talking about a vegetable garden. She's talking about the rose garden. It's all about reading comprehension.

Redoing a garden at taxpayer expense is completely different than creating a vegetable garden with donated funds

Another thread that is much to ado about nothing.

Just because you don't 'get it' doesn't mean it is "about nothing".  Many first ladies did so many humanitarian things, I guess her and her husband both just find it difficult to think of anything that would be a humanitarian act.

Let's be fair. We know Melania really respects Michelle Obama so it is understandable she would want the servants to plant a garden.  Look how she copied one of Michelle's speeches Link to speeches comparison.
