I was paying more attention to the florist who lives within 35 miles of where they want to put it. She does not want it there. Does her voice count or only the President's, the Republicans, and the millionaires who will make money on building it?

During his 2008 presidential campaign, Obama promised to abandon the Yucca Mountain project.
But he didn't do it. Laws still in place, facility is still there, still capable of storing 70,000 metric tons of radioactive waste safely and still being attacked by the agents of Big Carbon who want to kill the planet to preserve their profits...for a little while.
Unlike Republicans, Democrats actually embrace better ideas instead of demanding fealty to stupid ones.

Re: Let's just drop off the nuclear waste across the street from the CBP offices
There is NO physical problem with the Nuclear Repository we already built in Yucca Mountain Nevada. The problem is stupidity translated into Republican votes that keeps the repository from being used to store up to 70,000 metric tons of radioactive material.
The fail-safe reactor we tested successfully on April 26, 1986 (same day Chernobyl exploded) also reprocessed 80% of it's nuclear fuel ON SITE, virtually eliminating the "disposal problem", but BigCarbon and the Republcians they own prevent us from going to Nuclear and keep expansion of wind, solar and hydro power as slow as possible.
Perhaps they do not understand Climate Change is going to destroy our civilization. Perhaps they think they'll be so rich from causing the change they can save themselves.

Let's just drop off the nuclear waste across the street from the CBP offices
CBP has been dumping immigrants waiting for their hearings in New Mexico. We have had over 3,000 dropped off here. The Trump administration has proved incapable of the most basic functions of office. I think we should take advantage of this incompetence to leave the nuclear waste across the street from CBP offices. If we put a bow and a "Thank you President Trump" sign on it, he will probably have it hauled to DC to be on display in the Rose Garden.
More likely, by the time he notices it is there, it will no longer be radioactive.
Despite more than 50 years of searching and billions of dollars spent, the federal government still hasn't been able to identify a permanent repository for nuclear material. No state seems to want it.
So instead, dozens of states are stuck with it. More than 80,000 metric tons of spent nuclear fuel, a still-radioactive byproduct of nuclear power generation, is spread across the country at power plants and sites in 35 states.
