LET'S TALK CLIMATE

There's always been natural releases of CO2 into the atmosphere. For example, every big eruption of Italy's Mount Etna sends millions of tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.

But even the largest estimate of carbon dioxide contributed by volcanic and other natural activity isn 't even close to the 30 billion tons of CO2 that our civilization is producing every year." You don't have to be a scientist to understand how bad that is for our planet.

Most of what I have read here, folks are talking about "weather events", what is one to think?

Here is a climate fact:

According to an ongoing temperature analysis conducted by scientists at NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), the average global temperature on Earth has increased by about 0.8° Celsius (1.4° Fahrenheit) since 1880.

Yes, you read that right, 0.8 degrees Celsius in 139 years.  2/3rds of the increase has occurred since 1975. Apparently the Right wing can't see what is occuring in Miami, Norfolk or Venice.

It's part of the Denial Syndrome, Cent !!!

LET'S TALK CLIMATE

Before the industrial revolution, the CO2 content in the air remained quite steady for thousands of years. Natural CO2 is not static, however. It is generated by natural processes, and absorbed by others.

Human CO2 emissions upset the natural balance of the carbon cycle. Man-made CO2 in the atmosphere has increased by a third since the pre-industrial era, creating an artificial forcing of global temperatures which is warming the planet. While fossil-fuel derived CO2 is a very small component of the global carbon cycle, the extra CO2 is cumulative because the natural carbon exchange cannot absorb all the additional CO2.

The level of atmospheric CO2 is building up, the additional CO2 is being produced by burning fossil fuels, and that build up is accelerating.

But that and other climate facts make no difference to science deniers, including trump.

And the denial will continue because the GOPerLords have A/C and back-up power and independent water supplies. Their dupes will continue to deny because Fox Breightbart and infowars will tell them to.

Rational thought is not a trait to be found in today's Republican Party. They are wedded to the dogma that Government is Bad and Corporations are Good and their leaders feed this obedience by doing all they can to use tax dollars to harm those the GOPerBase hates, calling anything that helps the hated "socialism".

Happy Independence Day Everybody!

It's a great day for a hot dog, a cold beer and a parade with fireworks...

Enjoy your day folks.

No biggie - if we allow Republicans to remain in office, such ecological disasters will become commonplace just like mass shootings of school children, and the GOPers will pray for the fishes just like they pray for the slaughtered children - to continue to avoid doing anything to fix the problem because it would cost money that can only come from the rich.

As a Major Indian City Runs Out of Water, 9 Million People Pray for Rain

July 2, 2019

"The wait for water begins in the dark at 4 a.m. By the time A. Vani reaches the public pump, a dozen women are already in line.

The taps in Vani’s home in a working-class suburb of this South Indian city ran dry a month ago.

Now her entire morning is spent chasing water, then carefully rationing it for washing, bathing and cooking. She used to open her beauty parlor at 10 a.m., but now she is lucky if she gets there by early afternoon.
As the sun rises, so, too, does the heat, heading toward a high of 109 degrees.

Finally, at 8 a.m., water spills from the pump. But the flow is erratic, requiring a 10-minute wait before the next vessel can be filled.

A sharp argument erupts between neighbors over whose turn is next.

Last month, a woman in the area was stabbed when a fight over water turned violent.

The situation is “mental torture,” said Vani, “whatever lengths we have to go to get water, we will do it.

There is no other way.”

In some regions south of Mumbai, whole villages have been evacuated, with an estimated 90% of residents fleeing their homes in recent weeks due to searing drought and crop failures.
