OK - then in addition to how we pay for everybody's healthcare then let's adopt some of the cost saving measures which other countries use to not only keep their cost down but evidently gives them better outcomes or at least, countable outcomes.

We can tailor make a national health care plan that addresses all of the things that you list.

It sounds like you are now supporting a single payer universal health care plan like Medicare for all, it's about time. All international health statistics indicate that it is the most successful way of addressing the need for quality health care for all in any given nation. It should be one of our first steps in "Making America Great Again".

My objection to any sort of healthcare pay system has always been on the cost / coverage / principles side.  These type of cost saving measure could be initiated in our current system too.  The problem is, for me, is I do not think Americans would like these types of cost saving changes.  I think these polls indicate that fact. It is also indicated by certain groups wanting what they want regardless of scientific conclusion or cost.

I don't think our politicians or those who are developing any new plan would be honest about these type of cost saving measures or others with the American people because they know there would be tremendous backlash.

Like I said, many of these things could be initiated under the current system and our cost and outcome figures would be better NOW - I dare them to try - At least we would know the fever in which Americans would react.

No change in healthcare payment type systems is gonna be successful without changes in cost containment methods.  Even other countries with uni sale coverage or a single payer plan battle with this cost factor continuously.  That is why they stay on measuring treatments, medicines and cost for good value.  The expansion of government oversite whether that is in monitoring, measuring, controlling, approval or replacing has to be done regardless of the paying for method but is probably stricter under a single payer system.

Why should we not try to initiate some of these cost saving measures which other countries now use in our current system?  A step in the right direction and one that I think would help us now even if we do decide to change pay systems.

Working down the cost in healthcare using all the tools we can muster should be the 1st step because if we decide to change to another pay system, we would at least be going into it with better cost figures and probably outcomes too.

  • Gatekeepers - a medical professional that issues referrals to specialist when need be - not free choice of going to one just because a person thinks they need a specialist for treatment.
  • control the amount and type of our medical infrastructure in any given area - too much or too little isn't good
  • changing some of our preventive rules to agree with those of other countries,
  • stop over treatments, or things that don't even need treatment,
  • Some type of mandated prenatal visits and monitoring especially of those higher risk moms - healthwise and societal
  • get on the same page with health data like infant mortality rates - measure should be the same to adequately interpret results
  • adequate follow up after treatment so that people don't go backwards from some preventable cause,
  • stop going to the ER when it is not an emergency - meaning that they utilize things like telemedicine or an on-call after hours professional.
  • Stop smoking - stop alcohol abuse - stop drug abuse
  • weight management before it gets to the point that it is adversely affecting ones health
  • Get kids vaccinated against highly communicable disease that could take their life or leave them debilitated for the rest of their life
  • stop paying for treatments that only extend a terminally ill person's life for a few months at best
  • stop going to the hospital and being admitted when already at deaths door from an illness that has a terminal outcome - utilize more palliative and hospice comfort measures
  • rate treatments and medicines as to their efficacy, including price to results.
  • stop paying for stuff like school crossing guards out of money allocated for medical care
  • stop mandated coverage of treatments without scientific proof of outcome just because some group yells louder.

Just a few off the top of my head.

If we want healthcare that is less costly with better outcomes like those of other countries, we have to figure out and initiate best practices in not only care but the money being spent on it.  IOW, We have to determine what is value and what is not.

The way it is paid for is the easy part to figure out - that is just numbers.  What is included within those numbers is the difficult part.

Well you've uncovered & at least started to acknowledge the Real Issue

It's should be more about Science & Math then Political Ideology

It ISN'T & never will be with Trump & the GOP

Thats the Real Problem

SOLUTION IS ALSO ACHIEVED USING SCIENCE & MATH - VOTE PROGRESSIVE

Republicans want you to think somehow Government encouraging wider home ownership caused the Mortgage Meltdown that destroyed the World economy in 2008. That's another Zombie Lie - the mortgage crisis was caused by the two balanced budgets Clinton executed in 1999 and 2000. Details in post titled "the Mortgage Meltdown"

What "propaganda put out by big pharma" do you think makes people understand the Socialism is not the way to go?

Trump's ignorant and fearful base fall for the erroneous "Socialism" scare word, it's part of the propaganda.
