What are "Ethono Nationaists"? What has SKing to do with the census? What have CNN and FNews(?) to do with the census?

And finally, since the purpose of the census is to show the details of our population, this seems like a reasonable area of questioning.

Just a Question to contemplate about the importance of this citizenship question on the Census as it relates to the Voting Rights Act.

Let's say you have a small town or city that has a demographic of 48% black residents (per the latest Census). Because of its size, it lacked actual citizenship data as many places like this do.   A U.S. District Court files a voting rights complaint against the town alleging that the town's at-large system of electing its (4) Commissioners denied black voters an equal opportunity to elect representatives of their choice per Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, as amended in 1973.. Although black voting age Census participants compose 48% of the total voting age population, no black candidate ever has been elected to office.

The Court ordered that the voting system of electing (4)  at-large commissioners be replaced with voting for only one commissioner, set up by districts in order for the minority voters to elect a candidate of their choice.  Because there was no citizenship data for the town, it was discovered that many of the voting age demographics of the minority were NOT citizens - rather they were Haitians - some immigrants and some with Temporary Protection Status so even with the judicial degree, the following election resulted in no black commissioners.

There are many towns, counties and school boards on the margins where a lack of citizenship data takes them off the list of places effectively protected by the Voting Rights Act when it comes to redistricting.  Yes, this example does involves Americans who live in smaller jurisdictions with a proportionately large alien populations - there are places like this everywhere in the U.S.

But the lack of a census citizenship question doesn’t just impair voting rights enforcement in small towns.  In even bigger cities, the DOJ is stuck relying on citizenship “estimates” to determine if the Voting Rights Act is being violated or not.

L.A. is one such place - For decades, black Los Angeles residents were demographically squeezed out of local government by a growing Hispanic population of mixed citizenship.  Over time, Hispanic populations that were a mix of both citizens and aliens had the population numbers when it came to drawing district lines. A black majority-minority district might require a given population of residents, almost all citizens, while a Hispanic district next door would have the same total population, but a smaller population of citizens. Blacks ended up being the losers here because line drawers didn’t have adequate information on citizenship.

Asking the question on the census if someone living in the United States is a citizen makes sense - especially for minority citizens and their voting rights protection.

Unfortunately.........this will probably end up in the Supreme Court B4 a Final Ruling is made but hopefully these preliminary injunctions will at least keep it off the 2020 Census
