If the effective rate was (only) 67% and assuming that was earned in a high tax blue state we would have to add on 9-10% so bringing that "effective tax" to 77%, what in the world are liberals thinking where someone EARNS a good living and the GOVERNMENT steals 77% of it for redistribution to others as they see fit?

Obviously, a lot a people saw the flaws in that logic (no logic) and revised it to the tax system we have now.  You can talk all you want about the homes, cars, yachts they have and it gives you and other liberals no right to stake claim on their wealth.

Time to reread the 10th Commandment.

Again - please provide a Sample of AOC's TAX Plan so we can all dissect it ................the Quote as I have already pointed out is from a Q & A Session with Anderson Cooper on 60 Minutes - it describes the Previous Tax Rate Laws in the 60's & 70's

She has not sposored or co-sponsored any legislation anywhere

Penalty hasty generilization 1.png

Here are the Variables - because you chose to post the entire article - essentially allowing all viewers to read all the Slanders & Criticisms of AOC & a bunch of other nonsense as well - anything in it or derives from it - is fair game - just because you then chose to narrowly confine your own comments - is irrelevant

For Example - IN RED - Quotes From the Article That Appeared in your Introduction

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., has made a scandalous political mistake

The video of Ocasio-Cortez dancing on a rooftop as a young woman is everywhere, but it is only a distraction - who is providing the distraction - you brought it up?

Democratic strategist believes Biden has the infrastructure in place to launch a 2020 bid - what does Biden has to do with AOC's views

Every 2020 contender is watching Ocasio-Cortez and watching how potential voters react to her.

Right now, they are learning that they can propose astronomical taxes and dance their way out of answering for it. - Again with the Dancing Inneundo - but no Conservative Criticizes or mocked it

Again From The Article - The Right-wing Stooge (Angela Morabito (@AngelaLMorabito) is Calling it a Tax Plan

What the Right is really scandalized by isn’t Ocasio-Cortez's dancing video, but her tax plan.

If you want to talk about AOC's Tax Plan or AOC's Tax Proposal or any Piece of Legislation she has Sponsored or Co-sponsored

Shouldn't you Post That And We Can Discuss it

After all the Main Premise of your Argument here is that - there is No Factual Evidence of Conservatives Mocking AOC's Video

Wouldn't it then follow Logically that you would Produce AOC's Actual Tax Plan - Her Actual Tax Proposal - Anything that would support a Claim that she is Seriously Advocating a 70% Tax Rate before you encourage people to run around with their heads on Fire

Just so people interested in Fact-based Information - have some Context

All this AOC's Tax Plan Hysteria is about - is a Q & A Conversation with Anderson Cooper in a recent 60 Minutes Episode

Here is part of what she said

You look at our tax rates back in the ’60s and when you have a progressive tax rate system.

Your tax rate, you know, let’s say, from zero to $75,000 may be ten percent or 15 percent, et cetera.

But once you get to, like, the tippy tops— on your 10 millionth dollar— sometimes you see tax rates as high as 60 or 70 percent.

That doesn’t mean all $10 million are taxed at an extremely high rate, but it means that as you climb up this ladder you should be contributing more.

In the Interview on 60 Minutes - she also said

“People are going to have to start paying their fair share in taxes.”

Is there a Rationale Person anywhere that disagrees with that statement?

MORE FACT-BASED INFORMATION

AOC doesn’t state exactly who should pay more in taxes or specify what income levels would face higher tax rates.

Again, there is no real plan.

All she said is that decades ago, tax rates on the ultra-rich were much higher than they are now.

And yes, according to data from the Tax Foundation, during the 1960s, 1970s, and even into the early 1980s, the marginal tax rate in the U.S. was often 70% on the highest levels of household income (which back then was earnings in excess of around $200,000).

Paul Krugman, the Nobel Prize-winning economist and New York Times columnist, pointed out that these high tax rates, though astronomical compared to today’s levels, were routinely applied to the highest earnings of the wealthy in “the United States, for 35 years after World War II — including the most successful period of economic growth in our history.”

Who would pay higher taxes if Ocasio-Cortez’s ideas somehow become a reality? Data cited by the Washington Post indicates that as of 2016, only 16,000 tax filers — or 0.5% of U.S. households — had income over $10 million.

So if a 70% tax rate was applied to households with income over $10 million as Ocasio-Cortez seems to be suggesting, it might affect less than 1% of households.

As Krugman put it, the main reason to consider a significantly higher marginal tax rate like the one suggested by Ocasio-Cortez is that America “did just fine” economically during the decades when such tax rates were in effect, and that “a policy that makes the rich a bit poorer will affect only a handful of people, and will barely affect their life satisfaction.”

BTW - Is this Photo something about AOC's Views

n5661921:

panjandrum,

Great points in your post. She is only a junior senator. She has stood up for herself, the bathtub shot.  I hope she will become a driving force for the community she represents. Although young,  with time and the right mentoring, she will represent her district and make positive changes. Glad to see she has decided on this course for her life.

Thanks n! She's young and is on a learning curve to settle in to congress which seems to be going well. She's also very bright and has been talking to some top economists, not rightwing hacks like Larry Kudlow and Stephen Moore. Her views on taxes are supported by people who know what they're talking about (with hard evidence that they're right). Of course conservatives will become unhinged at the mention of higher taxes, but let them. They've been pushing an unworkable, failed policy agenda for years with not one shred of provable data that they're correct. Let them yell and squirm.

I am more interested in her views than I am her dancing. Why are you so concerned about one Congresswoman out of 435?  And, she doesn't represent your district.  That seems rather extremist like to me.....I'd be more concerned with congresscritters that don't believe in climate change, than one person's views on taxes.
I will remind you this post is about her views and not about Trump or any other subject. If you think my posts are inappropriate, report them.  I'm pointing out one's lack of perspective.  Fear-mongering sure seems to be a favorite tactic of the right.....see Willie Horton or Bush's fake claims that McCain fathered an illegitimate black child in YOUR state (oh my).  Integrity matters to most.
Let's play by the rules that I know you strongly support here. Actually I don't, but thank you for your concern.  But please, if you think I'm not playing by the rules, you are quite familiar with how to address it.

Not really Ed. You keep making the mistake of thinking your views and those of likeminded friends are a majority. You couldn't be more mistaken. The majority of people are bone tired of this moronic, tantrum throwing child now squatting in the WH. A progressive politician with views you dislike won't help one bit to change that.

And it would probably shock you to learn that many of his  spineless enablers in congress share that view. Trump keeps giving them more reasons every day to peel away from him, and when enough do that, it's over. Prepare yourself.

SOOOO many inaccuracies, hideden agendas and outright lies, its hard t osee where to begin.

The TMR in the USA was 91% from 1936 until 1965, and the actual effective rate paid by those at the very top of the economic heap was 67%. With that rate we overcame the Republican policy debacle aka the Great Depression, tamed our rivers with GOVERNMENT funded locks and dams, won WWII,  grew the most vibrant Middle Class and gave ALL Americans the highest standard of living, lowest inflation, best schools, best health care and most generous retirements.

Then to gain support for the worthless War he lied us into, LBJ cut the TMR all the way down to 70%, where it stayed from 1965 until 1981. During that time the AVERAGE individual in the top 1% earned $1.5Million/year and paid an effective rate of 54%. Our Standard of Living remained close to the top, anyone who could pass the tests could get a college education withour going into debt, BUT the connection between worker productivity and wages began to fray as more and more of the profits migrated int othe pockets of those doing the dividing.

Since Reagan and the GOP slashed the TMR to 28% and held it below 40%, American workers have seen their REAL income DECREASE, we are the only industrialized Nation where the life expectency is DECLINING and 650,000 people lose EVERYTHING EVERY YEAR because a family member GOT SICK.

Restoring the preReagan tax structure, adjusted for inflation, would generate revenue of over $4.3Trillion, enough to restore America to #1 in living standard, health care, education, life expectency, infrastructure and retirement AND NOT A SINGLE ARTICLE OF WEALTH - STOCKS, BONDS, HOUSES, YACHTS, AIRPLANES, JEWLERY - will every be taken from the Uberrich. They will still get more wealth every year, just not as fast as they have been.

For a Dem to publically state the obvious need for a return to the sanity of our preReagan tax structure is a breath of fresh air, and will doom GOPers to their richly deserved status as minority party.

You have to admit Soosie ,that Republicans keeping her out front in the Democrat   party  is only going to help the Republican party in 2020. If Republicans had somebody that out of touch the Dems would do the same. There is a definite trend that the Dems are moving toward Socialism. So for the time beingOcasio-Cortez is telling the Dems to "Shut and Dance with Me" (as the song goes)
