Inside Trump's Oklahoma debacle

It was not the crowd size so much as the confluence of all the incompetence Trump and his organization brings to every problem.

  • They actually checked the voting records of everyone who registered.  They estimated in advance that they had 60K people while Trump was still talking about a million.
  • Trump had very clear attack points against Biden but COULD NOT stay on script and all the points were lost in the two hour ramble.
  • News of Covid infections among  the members of Trump's advance team probably led to hundreds of supporters staying home. Trump was furious.........that word had leaked.
  • The unforced error of scheduling the rally on Juneteenth led to last minute rescheduling to the following day.  Further reducing the number of supporters able to attend.
  • Trump kept "stepping in it".  He announced he wanted to slow down testing. He spent valuable time explaining his embarrassing gate and water glass episode.  Which actually informed people who had not previously heard of it.
  • Video of his return to DC on Marine One showed an exhausted and  defeated man.

This account of what went wrong in Tulsa and the reckoning underway in the aftermath is based on interviews with more than a half-dozen reelection campaign and White House officials. The partly-empty arena was the biggest embarrassment and has received the lion’s share of media attention. But the issues surrounding the rally — an event that his advisers unanimously saw as a turning point for Trump — extended beyond crowd size and raised questions about the strength of his campaign less than five months until the election.

No doubt it was a debacle.  IMPOTUS just wants to be a rock star.  He wants to put on a show and see the adulation of his groupies, no political rally involved.  I didn't watch it, but I have seen clips.  The fact that he did a 10-minute bit on the "ramp walk", even going as far as reenacting it, is sad and pitiful.  That would have been long forgotten about, except IMPOTUS is obsessed with the coverage he got and he is keeping it alive (and the story/joke grows every time).

But the funniest thing is that he had to look out on a bunch of empty BLUE seats.  Oh, the irony. 😄

Just to be clear, he did 20 minutes on the ramp walk and the water glass.
