Elected GOPers do not care. The blood makes more of our money stick to their fingers. That and the voters opposing sane gun laws are ONE ISSUE VOTERS, and GOPers get reelected by pandering to OTHER needs of their base, like the racist need to do maximum harm to poor brown people and the childish fascination with a wall that will magically protect them from having to live with more brown people.
Those people are a MINORITY of Americans, but they are also a minority THAT VOTES. Since many Democrats won't vote unless they're totally in love with the candidate, we've been ruled by a minority for decades.
VOTE OUT THE GOP AT EVERY LEVEL OF GOVERNMENT!

6 in 10 Americans are fearful of mass shootings. I can relate.

@NOTHAPPENING wrote:I support background checks for any sale of any gun (anywhere). Good for you!
This includes private sales, gun shows, or gun shops. Awesome!!!
The way this could be implemented easily is allow anyone access to the NICS database (read only) and it would just say buy or no buy based on name and address. If buy was stated, then the "seller" would print out the proof that he was able to sell. The background check needs to be expanded where people that are deemed unstable are added and those that make threats are added. And those who are "red-flagged".
Unfortunately, only people authorized to sell guns by the Federal Government are allowed to access this system.
I was hoping a far-right Conservative could demonstrate the ability to think through the process. It's not as difficult as many far-righties have stated here. Nice job, NOT.
Now, if any of these Righties agree with Not, try contacting your GOP represnative and Senator and demand action as it is they who are holding up any progress.

Spot on Scout , too bad If our sportsmen have to reload after 8-10 rounds. Think of the lives saved without high capacity Weapons of War on the streets.

@jimc91 wrote:NEWS FLASH!
We already have background checks...
Consider connecting mental health records to the databases used in the current background checks.
NEWS FLASH!
None of that works, never has, never will. At the very best, it will keep someone with serious mental health issues from buying ANOTHER gun to add to the ones s/he bought BEFORE the diagnosis was made.
It is access to MILITARY GRADE WEAPONS - semi-automatics that can fire more than 8 times before reloading - that is causing the slaughter of children in their schools and innocents on our streets.
You eliminate all the gun deaths from those MILITARY GRADE weapons, and our death rate is cut in half if not more.

Re: In 2018 97% Supported Gun Background Checks
Isn’t there also an expectation within our system that leaders and legislators to enact the “will of the people”?
And they also took an oath to protect against domestic enemies and harm which they might cause.
trump and mitch severely fail on both counts, but trump repubs and supporters just look the other way.
That’s just UnPatriotic and disgusting!

@Centristsin2010 wrote:Poll: 97 percent support background checks for all gun buyers in Feb. 2018
And what did the GOP and trump DO????
Sucked up to the NRA.....
And how many have been killed since then????
Blood is on their hands.....
Support for universal background checks has hit a record high, according to a new poll conducted in the wake of last week's deadly school shooting in Florida.
Ninety-seven percent of those surveyed in the Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday said they support requiring background checks for all gun buyers, while just 2 percent were opposed.
That's up from the 95 percent support found in Quinnipiac polls released in mid-November and mid-December, which were themselves record highs since the poll began asking the question in early 2013 following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Conn.
The Quinnipiac poll conducted in November came after a mass shooting at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas.
The national debate over gun control was reignited last week after a gunman opened fire at a high school in Parkland, Fla., killing 17 people and injuring more than a dozen others.
The suspect, Nikolas Cruz, was able to purchase an AR-15 rifle last year despite the FBI having received red flags and warnings about the teenager. Democrats and gun control advocates have called for tighter gun control laws in response to the shooting.
The latest Quinnipiac poll was conducted Feb. 16–19 among 1,249 voters across the country and has a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points.
Poll: 97 percent support background checks for all gun buyers
No amount of background checking or improved mental health will solve the problem because the problem is NOT the gun owners, ITS THE GUNS!
Specifically, it is any gun that can fire in a semi-automatic mode more than 8 times before reloading. This EXCLUDES the M-1 Garand rifle and the M1911 .45cal Pistol. Seems to me civilians have no legitimate need for weapons more deadly than the standard issue ones our troops used to defeat Hitler and the Japanese.
