Gail, you are correct - - - "It's always something".  In this instance that "something" is that the Electoral College circumvents democracy, or the popular vote. I hope the vast majority of Americans recognize this and take the steps to correct it. It looks like many states already have, thank goodness.

National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, in which member states pledge to give all their Electoral College votes to the winner of the national popular vote - regardless of which candidate wins their own state. Currently, these states have 189 electoral votes.

As of April 2019 - 14 states have joined the compact + DC; it has been in the works since 2007. That is 189 out of 538 - about 1/3rd of the total but about 70% of the 270 needed to put the Candidate in office.

Now look at which areas of the country are missing from this Compact representation - more rural / agriculture states - those with less in big cities but populations spread out more.
The whole South and a very big part of the MW - MIA.

You think these few states, if they get a few more, should be able to dictate the winner of a President who should represent the whole country?

Also what might happen if this comes back to bite them? Never say never - Will people in these states feel that they are OK when their electoral votes are caste for someone who did not win their state? Or will they once again want to go back to the drawing board?

This is an excerpt ---the entire article If you haven't read  it before  ---it's .worth a look )

We will have an even larger population that will vote against him (Trump) in 2020,” Michael Moore says  . “But he will win those electoral states as it stands now.

That said, he believes the National Popular Vote interstate compact, an agreement between states to award all of their electoral votes to the candidate who wins the popular vote, could succeed as a workaround if we can convince enough state legislatures to pass it in time.

So far, it has won approval in 10 states and Washington, D.C.–the agreement will only be enacted once states delivering a total of 270 electoral votes have signed on, and it’s still far from that goal
