What happened to the beliefs and convictions of those during that time?  It was a wonderful spirit that shown forth, not the belligerant, harmful and destructive values of the kids today.. so many commit crimes and seem to have nothing to follow.   Is is lack of parental values rubbing off, is it the overall socieity, is it gadgets, games,no directives?

I am sending a message, please listen to it and see what you think, as I wonder how open our minds are to thoughts from other groups who also have a story to tell.  This tells of other views of the society.

Leah...I never thought about racism in sports. My son-in-law is a pitcher in pro ball and teams consist of all ethnics (so I thought). Could you imagine "if" there was a team called the "n" word? No waaay would this ever be allowed this day and age! Racism is racism, regardless of color or origin. I would gladly join in and help fight for the American Indian to have their dignity restored and a racist sports name removed.www.aarp.org/community/editor/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/msn/angry_smile.gif" />

I have always had a heart for the American Indian and the way in which our gov't castrated them angers me. I've visited reservations and they are disheartening. They are a PRIME example of what the "nanny" system can do to people. If anyone thinks we should be afraid...we should be VERY afraid of that!www.aarp.org/community/editor/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/msn/omg_smile.gif" />

Speaking of sports team names. I lived for many years in DC and I gotta tell ya, the affection for the Redskins was deep and wide. "Skins" season tickets were factors in wills and divorce settlements.  how can anyone be offended by that sort of sentiment? No castration in that.

Not sure who started this @Roxanna35 but this thread started back in 2010, I don't think it's very current.

That said I do seem to recognize some of the syntax so maybe we have some posters that have reincarnated under new handles...

Jim ,  MIcroft  never changed his name, he was a truly great poster, I so wish we had more like him.

I wondered how to explain the
haters here in a way that makes sense and bigot is the right word.
Instead of understanding we all have different points of view
they hate the tea party because it doesn't fit their views.
They hate Christians because it doesn't fit their idea of
religion - I do know how the Bible was put together and what was
left out along with the history of religion the difference is I don't look down on people that have
a different belief of the Bible I do.

Look in the mirror and ask why you
are afraid or hate people with a different view than you.
Conservatives aren't afraid of socialism we just don't want
gov't to rule our lives as we believe in the Declaration of Independence

attack those that don't agree with you but the November election
will settle the disagreement until the next election.

: I see the haters are out tonight

What the tea party and others are
upset about is people that were elected think they can rule over us
instead of deriving their just powers from the consent of the
governed.

So why do the  tea party and others suppress the vote, gerrymander voting districts, impose voter ID laws, fabricate voter fraud problems in search of solutions, voter obstruction and voting fraud in many different ways.

That is not   deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.

That is an attack on Democracy.

People that engage in that attack on Democracy should expect the hate of the governed.

As should those that attempt to troll public forums with multiple accounts or identifies or as a tag team of trolls

This issue is too disturbing.  To think this is happening in America is unfathomable   Kidboy, we have differing views and this is a big one.

The law Trump used for  ecuse to his thisto support is discretionary.

I was twelve when I saw news reals of Nazi's separating parents from children and I lived in fear that it could happen.   Well, there were evil men then and even

men now.  How can anyone see

Be kind to each other, mimi

In Response to post:

I visited Pine Ridge and Rosebud. Pine
Ridge is the 8th largest reservation in the

United States

and the poorest.
Their unemployment rate is about 80% and half live below
poverty level. Many live without electricity, heat &
water. Suicide rate among the young is pathetic and the life
expectancy of men & women are the shortest (47 yrs for
males & 50’s for females) while the infant
mortality rate is five times the US average. This is a hard
pill for me to swallow; makes me wonder why our gov't
sends billions of OUR tax dollars to help foreign countries
but turns their back on their own.

Lakota’s have considerable agricultural
production, but only a small percentage of the tribe
directly benefits from it. According to the USDA, in 2002
there was nearly $33 million in receipts from agricultural
production on Pine Ridge and less than one-third of that
income went to members of the tribe (go figure).

I was involved with a Lakota family via a
missionary. It was a heart warming & enlightening
experience. Glad to hear there are other reservations doing well.

The government doesn't -- the right wing does.

Either these posters have waaay too many "teenage moments" or they slept through history or dementia is setting in. Glad you reminded them of the facts...

Vesuvius is a well meaning, former inner city high school teacher.

He's missing a lot of facts; but he means well.

That right wing "Christian" high school worked out real well for you, didn't it?

Which God do you favor? Remember, the first commandment -- "Thou shalt Have No Other Gods Before Me" -- so there must be others...

Ever think about that....

or don't you think?
