Re: How the Republican party went from the party of Lincoln to the party of Trump

White people are racist unless they actively and consciously try not to be racist.

Those types of whites tend to gravitate to the Democratic party.

Neither party is perfect.

The huge, significant difference is democratic policies and laws are generally anti racist. Republicans policies and laws are generally racist.

ManicProgressive:  You know Sebastian Gorka is an anti Semitic dude linked to the Hungarian Nazi party, right?

Just another example of the very fine people surrounding Trump. He is a lowlife magnet.

As a registered Republican but not a Trump follower, I will have to agree that this Party has become a Trump Party instead of the republicans Party that I  joined.
Regarding racism, I will disagree with the fact that I truly believe that Americans in general are quite racists.
In many ways, they don't have to be mean to the "non white," they only have to be "overly nice" "condescending" and in many ways not treating them as equals.
By calling them. African American, lumping anyone from Latin Americans as "Mexicans" and our American Children, actually become "half Americans"  Mexican Americans, Cuban Americans, etc. I don't see anyone else being called "white American" they are simply "white"
I asked the other day what and who are now the ones called "brown"?  I am still waiting for an answer.

Sorry but Americans tend to see people "in colors" and that is not the property of just the Republicans but the rest of the country  as a whole.

CriticalThinking:

Do you remember the Republican Party before Trump when they stood for:

  • Reducing the size of government
  • Reducing the national deficit
  • Free Trade
  • No Tariffs
  • Supporting NATO 100%
  • Supporting Law Enforcement
  • Supporting the Rule of Law

I remember

But by becoming the party of Trump they have shown that the things they supposedly stood for were little more than campaign rhetoric, not deeply held beliefs. One thing that went long before Trump was reducing the national deficit. At least since Reagan's day they have passed large tax cuts for the wealthy while lying that they would not only pay for themselves but increase revenue. The opposite always happens, but they keep telling that lie.

lk152 provides a good history of the Republican Party slide in Bigotry and Hate, but omitted the rather cleaver PsyOps the GOPerLords to get the GOPerBase to be comfortable with their rampant racism. misogyonmy, distain for the poor.

To make racism "defensible" in the feeble minds of their followers, the GOPerLords tell them it was those non-white people who TOOK all the promotions and good jobs away from the hardworking whites, made the schools deteriorate and soaked up all the public money with welfare so the streets don't get repaired and there aren't enough cops on the beat to catch the bad guys, who are almost all non-white. This is much easier for the bubba's to accept than the reality that it was their white boss who GAVE the jobs to the Asian commie slaves or undocumented workers, vilified teachers (because they vote Democratic) thus driving the good ones out and cut taxes on the rich so there's no money to pay for road repairs or adequate policing.

The Republican War on Women has the same pitch about women getting the promotions that WOULD go to white guys if it weren't for all those stupid equal pay laws and birth control preventing the white guys from keeping them barefoot and pregnant like God said in the Bible.

And of course the GOPerLords are constantly fueling hatred of the working poor by ranting about the "47% who pay no taxes and get a free ride", but never mention the fact that virtually all of the "47%" are disabled, students, retired, under 21 or serving in combat in the military.

Now, thanks to 47,000 normally Democratic voters either staying home or writing in Bernie, we have a ToadPOTUS who uses the office of the Presidency to heap praise on Nazis and the bloodthirsty tyrants who want to destroy America while insulting and alienating the leaders of the Democracies who were our strongest allies.
