Re: How Capitalists Prepare Their Children To Compete

As a Mathematics teacher for over 45 years, I ask you to look at how our society views Science and Math.  Would you go to a party and announce ,"I don't know how to read"?

No, you would not! And yet it is perfectly acceptable at a party (or to say to your child,)

“ I can't do math! " and there is no social stigma to it. There should be! To your child you say "Go ask your father or brother." As if there is a math gene on the y-chromosome. There is no math gene on either x or y chrimosomes! But until our society encourages more and more of our students-especially those not from the top 20%-to become proficient in the maths and sciences, we will never catch up.

Yup. Absolutely.  An acquaintance of mine wrote this book, Dream Hoarders, about how the top 20% (income) pour tons of resources into their kids, that the kids have very little chance of failing. Those in the top 20% think of this as ensuring their kids’ success or even supremacy. It functions as a floor to keep their kids from falling out of the top 20%. But it also functions as a ceiling, keeping most others out.  And those in the top 20 are fine with it. Their kids matter, right? Who cares about the others?

Until you see charts like Mick’s that show our mediocrity as a whole.

@ManicProgressive - All you said is true, but you missed the most significant lesson the seriously rich all pass to their children:

The Importance of CONNECTIONS,

how to build them and how to maintain them. With the right connections, their children get the unpaid internships in the Corporate HQ because they've already met the selection committee socially AND they can live for a year or two in The Big City without a paycheck, thanks to that Trust Fund begun the day they were born and continued to grow by at least the $20K Mumsie and Poppy kick in each year.

As for the rest - the best schools, tutors, travel, etc. it also pretty much insures they will meet and marry only those like themselves, preserving the Family Hoard the same way Royalty did successfully for all those years before 1776 marked the beginning of the end for that form of Royalty.

That’s exactly the point. Most people do well, or not, according to what parents they were born to.

And it it shouldn’t be that way. Even if our job market is a meritocracy, the resources we’ve given our kids either give them an easy head start, or a huge handicap.  Do you really think Chelsea Clinton is that much smarter than most people? To deserve on merit a $250,000 job right out of college? Or whatever she got?  Contacts matter and the top 1% or 5% can get their kids jobs anywhere. Those of us in the 20% can get our kids all sorts of internships and ways in to most jobs.  My kids all have or will have excellent jobs.  Because of who I know. They will keep the job and or move up because of what they know. And how hard they work.

Do you think that’s a fair advantage over a hard working super bright middle class kid? I don’t.  The socialist countries Mick references have a fairer distribution of resources where more can succeed based on their own merit and not their parents’ wealth.

I'm curious about how you posters think people who have wealth get their money and how they are supposed to pass it to those who don't.  I don't have wealth, but I don't try to compare myself to anyone who does.  The people who bother me most are those who are able bodied and sit on their rumps and complain, or those I see in stores riding on a motorized vehicle because from all appearances, they are simply too fat to walk.  I don't know what put them in that condition, so I will accept that I could be wrong, but they appear not to take any action to keep themselves healthy.

Oh and it gets even WORSE if you want to look at how US CAPITALISTS treat their own CHILDREN by GENDER

THIS IS A FACT

LAST YEAR - IN THE ENTIRE USA

ONLY 75 - THAT'S - SEVENTY-FIVE WOMAN GRADUATED FROM A US COLLEGE WITH A COMPUTER SCIENCE TEACHING DEGREE

Sharyn Alfonsi: Is it true that we only graduated 75 computer science teachers last year from all of the universities and colleges in the United States?

Hadi Partovi: Yes. It's crazy.

IF YOU CANT READ

IF YOU CANNOT COMMUNICATE

IF YOU CAN'T UNDERSTAND  MATH

IF YOU CAN'T UNDERSTAND SCIENCE

WHO BENEFITS THE MOST OUT OF A CAPITALIST SYSTEM?

The Small Group At The Top Who The US Government Concentrates On Insuring Succeeds

How many times have you heard Trump or McConnell talk about US Education as a Priority?

Just look at who he's put in charge of the US Governments Education Policies & what are his Administrations Results?

How many times have you Heard Pelosi or Schumer Prioritize US Education?

What do the DNC or RNC Platforms Prioritize?

Forget the Arguments about US Politics & Ideology for a minute

YOU WANT TRUTH

YOU WANT FACT

Lets look around the World at who does the best job at preparing their next Generation to Compete - BETWEEN THEMSELVES AND GLOBALLY

How do U.S. students compare with their peers around the world? Recently released data from international math and science assessments indicate that U.S. students continue to rank around the middle of the pack, and behind many other advanced industrial nations.

There are Multiple Credible Examples We can use
