Maybe Washington DC residents objections to being returned to Maryland is because of taxes?

Frankly I wouldn't like to live in either state because of their taxes.

Perhaps. I don't think anyone ever asked  WHY they want their own state. Only whether they did and that got overwhelming support.  Democracy and all that inconvenient stuff.

DC levies personal income taxes as you said but they must also pay U.S. income taxes unlike PR!  PR pays PR income taxes but not Federal Taxes.

Why not just add the Virgin Islands, Guam, Samoa, etc?  There has been talk about California wanting to split into, perhaps to separate liberals from conservatives.

The U.S. virgin Islands citizens have voted down becoming a U.S. state many times as have the citizens in Puerto Rico and other U.S. territories. The residents of Washington DC, on the other hand, have held multiple referendums over the decades and consistently applied for statehood. This is the first time the House of Representatives have approved the petition.  Now it will be in the hands of the Republican held Senate to approve or deny the petition.

That’s not the beauty of Congress, that’s the racist partisanship

If DC were primarily repub, they’d be all for it.

Let’s add Puerto Rico as a State also.

For information, the Congress existed about 290 years before Trump and McConnell. they are just a blip on the historical timeline.

Then, it is up to the Republicans in the Senate to block that, isn't it?

And without a doubt they will.  That's the beauty of our Constitution and the reason for the two houses of Congress, along with different political parties.

They want representation, they could have it as long as all but the Federal enclave is returned to Maryland.  Would you be pushing this (you are) if the population majority was Republican?

You still want to continue this discussion?

Thank you I was honest about it. I said "regardless of who wins.

It seems that most who supported trump and some who voted for someone other than trump or Hillary and helped trump get elected has trouble recognizing honesty.

I would venture to say that you are letting an assumption influence your opinions.  How are you to know how one votes in a private ballot?  Apparently you are saying that what you believe is the way for everyone.

There is rarely a good example of honesty on the part of any party here.  Both are opinionated for what they support, several are real opinionated and appear intolerant of differing opinions.  Do you think you can tell someone who has been voting since the mid-1950's how to vote?

For the record, Neither Hillary nor Trump was worth casting a vote for in my opinion.  Hillary as much as Trump.  A vote, or no vote for either could be considered as voting against both.
