Must be really a slow night with subsequent replies, mostly based on uninformed regional bias.  And from the usual suspects.

Texans are nothing if not preservers of their "History". They want to preserve the segregation of the races, the jailing of blacks for things whites will pay a fine for, and the notion that it is criminal to educate black children as that will make them "uppidy" when they get older. They spend more time passing laws that disenfranchise blacks than even Alabama, and the number of academic scholarships they offer minority students pales in comparison to those offered to blacks who can contend for the Heisman or hit and run like Willie Mays.

Then when anyone points this out, they're accused of being "regionally bigoted" or somesuch nonsense. As that nice lady reporter who wore red dress's remarked, the Texas Statehouse was built by Giants but is inhabited by Pygmies.

But hope is on the way. Texas is growing and the growth is coming from immigrants who are not inculcated with the BS about how the Civil War was a noble cause and their votes are growing more purple by the day. Many young people in Texas find the racism of their parents abhorrent and their fundie beliefs stupid. I give the bigots 10 years to retain control, then the future will overcome Republicanism and Texas will emerge from the 19th Century into the 21st.

It will be interesting - and revealing - to see whether Texans in general support that blatant racist dogwhistling of "Preserving History" - or reject it...

Yep - it's a test...

Strange, one idiot restaurant owner up in Lubbock decides to resurrect an outdated and racist caricature so therefore an entire state of millions of diverse people is considered racist?  How illogical!!!

Must be a slow day finding valid topics to post.

Right wingers are a strange lot and sadly, they embrace that hatred as "history" .

Fortunately, some states, in this case TN continues to purge itself from that racism, as Memphis removed two statues celebrating Jim Crow and hatred of Civil Rights last night.     ALT-Reight went balastic.   :-)     Hilariously, they bemoaned the process of privatization that the RW has endorsed and embraced.   They seriously need to learn the meaning of irony.

HERE'S WHY TEXAS IS STILL CONSIDERED THE MOST RACIST STATE IN THE UNION

There is a restaurant in Lubbock, TEXAS that has a neon sign.... so offensive..... that I did not post a picture here because I don't know if AARP would allow it.

It is a caricature of a BLACK FACE done as WHITES did them in the 1930's 1940's and 1950's with advertising for place called "COON CHICKEN INN" written across the lips.

The words are offensive enough but the neon sign itself is "beyond the pale".

And how does this restaurant address the uproar regarding this most racist of signs????????

Here is their response:

“We did not put this sign up to be derogatory, racist or to offend anyone. This is part of Americana History… just like everything else hung in our collection and buildings.”

The post continues, “Aunt Jemima, mammies, and lots of other black collectibles are highly sought after, as is Americana collectibles with white characters. The Coon Chicken Inn was an actual restaurant started in the 20’s. Again, we want to stress we do not intend to offend anyone, and are only preserving a part of history that should remind us all of the senselessness of racial prejudice.”

Only in TEXAS would one nail a RACIST DISPLAY to their wall to "remind"  people of the "senselessness" of RACISM.
