H-1B Visas: A Promise Not Kept

While campaigning, Candidate Trump railed against H-1B visas which have downgraded compensation of US tech jobs and even stole jobs initially held by American workers.  In fact, US workers were forced to train their visa-holding replacements in a number of publicized instances or face losing severance.

Of course none of this was supposed to be the purpose of the visas since the companies using them always claimed there were not enough educated Americans to fill the jobs.  However a number of studies have proven this to be a ruse by the companies in-order to hire lower-cost workers who also lacked leverage in the face of unfair treatment.

Anyway, Trump was supposed to fix the problem for the good of the American workers & April 1st was a key deadline for the coming year's visa quota.  Did he do anything concrete after all his campaign bluster?  You be the judge:

Donald et al is doing a bit of CYA.    What he didn't do is reduce the number of H1B Visas, so companies hiring Tech experts will continue on pace.     Hilariously, his "new rules" require more government workers - so for those here who are in the Bannon Bus of destroying the Admininstrative focus of the FED - you just got kicked in the shin.

As most here don't read much of the articles posted, here is the article, for those who want to actually discuss the "new rules".    https://www.wired.com/2017/04/trumps-empty-crackdown-overseas-coders-doesnt-fix-tech-visas/

I am always amazed by the logic of the same people who claim that a free market will solve all of our problems won't allow the free market to work for employee wages.  The answer to not finding enough qualified workers is simple, raise your pay.

And yet there are some on the felt that defend illegal immigrants on the meme, "There are jobs that Americans just won't do". It seems that there is an excuse for anything that someone raises and it often blames the free market economy.

Until Republicans gave huge tax incentives and outright subsidies to companies moving good jobs to commie slaves, there were plenty of BETTER jobs for Americans to do than getting in the harvest via stoop labor so the comment about Americans not being willing to do the jobs our undocumented workers did is true.

After all the Republican financed (with our tax dollars) job migration and the jrbush Great Recession, Americans WOULD do those jobs for the right price, but no GOPer will go after the ones HIRING the illegals, so the illegals will keep doing those jobs for way less than "the market" would require.

And Republicans will continue to demand all price points be set by the Market EXCEPT the price of LABOR.

Every year around 300,000 AMERICANS graduate with a degree in STEM fields. The current "cap" on H-1B visas is 65,000 with an additional 20,000 for Masters or PhDs.

So to prevent experienced AMERICAN STEM workers from getting a raise, Republicans import more foreign workers to depress the wages for highly skilled professionals, just like they left the border open to depress the wages (and destroy the worker's Unions in the food processing industry.

And American workers THINK GOPers will give them a better deal than Democrats? Seems what GOPers excell at is the propagating of plausable lies, plausable because the Republican War on Education has left our young people without the ability to actually analyze arguments.

I wonder if anyone really believes that all these problems began last January.

I wonder if it is possible that the "phone and the pen" did not address these problems during the preceding eight years.

I wonder what reason anyone would have to believe that the Demodopes are anxious to fix the H1-B situation.

In 1993 when Microsoft was king. they were hiring people from other nations mainly India and not hiring IT americans, and the reason was that they didn't want to pay the salary to Americans that they had to pay otherwise.
This is a very old problem that no administration has wanted to resolve.

That's an evasion of the fact that yet again.... he has failed to keep his word.

The entire H-1B program is just the latest refinement of the long standing Republican policy of using foreign labor to depress wages for American workers.

There are PLENTY of highly qualified Americans to fill every one of the H-1B jobs, but they already have good jobs because they worked hard and learned the needed skills.

But instead of acquiring highly qualified Americans by paying what their labor is worth, antiAmerican employers hire GOPers in Congress to bring them foreign workers who will do the job for half what it's worth AND will never complain because if they lose their job, they lose their visa, and not being covered by any Union agreements, those foreign workers can lose their jobs for no reason whatsoever.

I have no idea if Trump understand or is simply paying lip service to the issue of the H-1B visas. Yes I also heard today that he would see what companies would be requesting these visas and see if they were discriminating Americans.
Perhaps Trump is beginning to realize that the special interests in this country have become so powerful that he will not be able to do anything that is not allowed by these same interests.
In this case an EO would have been perhaps more effective in order to fight the abuses that occurrs on this issue.
