Those tax cuts for the top 1% had to be paid for somehow.

So you see Medicare can be CUT without affecting benefits just as the ACA did.

It's just in the terminology where people get all out of whack -

Some may say we are creating savings within the Medicare program; others say we are cutting Medicare.

Tomato / Tomato. - guess it just depends where you are on the food chain.

Sounds like the Trump appointees are trying to make it look like we don't need to raise the "cap" for medicare contributions.

Do we have to go over this all over again?

THERE IS NO CAP ON MEDICARE PAYROLL TAXES NOR THEIR MATCH BY THE EMPLOYER - been this way for a very long time.

Have to see the numbers, but simply refusing to pay more than what the VA has negotiated for drugs and medical equipment could probably save $45 Billion/year. OR The Trumpees could be trying to drive more providers OFF Medicare so privatizing it will look less soulless.

Negotiating for the price of drugs has to come from a stance of strength, like the VA health system - meaning NOT every drug will be covered in any particular class of drugs, which they are now under Medicare D.  And any generic used will be supplied by whichever one gives the best price at any particular time  (like the VA system) thus a generic medication may look different each time a refill is processed - To their merit, the VA does send a picture and description of the currently supplied generic.  But it still causes confusion to many.

DME (durable medical equipment) is covered by Medicare (and thus by Medicare Advantage plans) - Part B, I believe, thus the beneficiary only has to pay their part of the cost, if any, as long as one uses a vendor which accepts Medicare, under which Medicare has already negotiated a special rate cost.

With the changes CMS has approved for Medicare Advantage plans for 2019,  which I have posted about earlier this month (see below), I believe that they are gonna become even more desirable to many seniors - these private insurance plans already have 30% of the Medicare market and is growing - these changes may accelerate enrollment in them.

https://community.aarp.org/t5/Politics-Current-Events/Adding-Broad-New-Non-Medical-Benefits-to-2019-...

So who needs to declare a Medicare privatization scheme in Congress when all that has to be done is give some perk incentives to cover more than what the original program now covers with few limits.

km7709's post (which is the one I assume you were responding to) was about privatizing social security.  Right now, the biggest proponent, is Paul Ryan.  In my opinion, privatization of the social security program would be a mistake.  Again, which jobs have been "returned".  Is there an increase in manufacturing employment?  If the factories are returned to the US, the job skills that will be demand will be computer programmers and robot repairmen to keep the automated lines running.  The employment to population ratio is up, but has been on an upswing since the massive fall of the recession.  It is not "the greatest ever" and is on par with the mid 80's.  As far as keeping people poor, I would like to point out that real wages are not rising and the deficit that is increasing due to the tax cuts will have to be repaid.  Right now, you are getting a few extra dollars to make you happy.  Far more than that will ended up being paid in the future.

Again the left is attempting to scare seniors with destroying Social Security benefits.   The way SS is determined is thru payroll deductions.  The US has the lowest unemployment rates in a decade.  Remember when Obummer said "those jobs are not coming back.  Does Trump have a magic wand or what?"  Yes, Trump's magic wand is SPINE.  He does not apologize for bringing jobs back to America. So SS is protected, American jobs are paying for your SS.

They were trying to "privatize" social security.  In other words you payroll deductions would be sent to a private money manager.  Money managers were drooling over all of the fees they could charge for this.  Social Security would no longer "be protected" if it was privatized. Please enlighten us on which manufacturing jobs have come back to America?  Like your other subjects, maybe you should try to determine facts before you post.  Has the Trump brought the manufacturing for their products back here?  This is a fact check from the begining of the year:  https://www.factcheck.org/2018/01/manufacturing-jobs-roaring-back/

In my opinion, Trump's magic words are "ME" and "SELF".

The House Republican budget, titled “A Brighter American Future,” would privatize Medicare by giving seniors the option of enrolling in private plans that compete with traditional Medicare, a system of competition designed to keep costs down but dismissed by critics as an effort allow insurance companies to make more money and to take away funds from traditional Medicare program, dooming it to extinction. Along with other changes, the budget proposes to squeeze $537 billion out of Medicare over the next decade. They tried to privatize Social Security before and were defeated. They need the money to pay for the massive tax cuts for the rich that have caused record $1 trillion debt. Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, shame on you. Fool me continuously, I must be a Trump Supporter.

The bottom line of all Republican Medicare plans is they will replace a guarenteed level of health care with a "negotionable" dollar amount.

Their supporting data for all their plans makes predictions about the future that do not include consideration of the recent past, like the fact PPACA has REDUCED the growth of health care from annual increases of 10%/year or more to less than 4%/year. They also are using personal income figures that ignore the fact the Reagan Taxscam has reduced income growth to ZERO for the bottom 95% and looks like that will continue for some time, if not forever.

So when they say their projections indicate a better deal for the 99%, please remember they have begun passing legislation to repeal PPACA with NO REPLACEMENT and vow to pass more taxscams for the Uberrich, the thing that triggered the nosedive of wages for the ordinary citizen.
