Well KidBoy2, to address the contrived concern in your article, why not lead by example and stop receiving your Medicare and Social Security benefits?

When GOPers realized their dupes would vote for them if they just kept doing great harm to non-whites and women, they gave up the pretence of being "fiscally conservative" and shoveled on the Debt - after all, their true base (the top of the 1%) were the ones OWNING the Government bonds that the bottom 99% would have to pay off, so no taxes now and high returns with no risk forever!

Granted, the T-bill rates have been falling of late, but compare the 1.5% to 2% they pay rich people (bidding starts at $10,000 for these puppies) compare that with what Republican legislation allows your bank to pay you for YOUR MONEY.

When I was just a tad younger, a 5% savings account at the Credit Union was kind of a "given" in your financial planning, now it's 0.1%, a 98% DROP. But the loan rates that had been around 6.5% are not 1.3%, so where's all the GOPer-created differential going? Salaries for Tellers sure haven't risen much, in fact, most teller jobs were automated decades ago, and there's no more days of delay when money moves between accounts.

If Americans would like their kids to have a shot at doing better than they did, they best stop voting for Republicans who made sure future generations would NEVER reach the lifestyles their parents had. Republican voters are sacrificing the future of their children for fear of SOCIALISM - A THING THEY CANNOT EVEN DEFINE??

Scout....once again, you nailed it!

Boomers vs. Millennials

Teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg recently made international headlines with an impassioned speech to the United Nations in which she complained that her future had been stolen by inaction on climate change. An American Ms. Thunberg’s age could say the same about entitlement spending on Social Security and Medicare.

By the expanding eligibility for and hiking the benefits of a pay-as-you-go system while at the same time having fewer children to fund it, the generations preceding that child have left a fearsome financial obligation. Either taxes will go up sharply for the workers of tomorrow, lowering their standard of living, or benefits will go down for the retirees of tomorrow, lowering their standard of living. One group is going to feel pretty angry.

Kidboy I wasn't aware that your post on climate change had something to do with climate change. but with Medicare for all. Fordunately for you. althoughb I don't agree with your conparison. I do agree on Medicare for all. .

WOW. I guess we should stop cutting taxes for the rich and think about increasing taxes so we can live up to the commitments we have made to the current generations while not leaving debt for future ones.

I really didn't want to comment on this thread but I have comment on this one statement -

1.  Social Security is part of the Unified Budget, thanks to President Johnson, so it does have an effect but of course, just removing it (the Trust funds) from the Unified Budget would have an effect also.

2.  Medicare, at least Part B & D, do affect the debt - because at least 75% of the funds needed for these program comes from the General Fund.  Reduce these program cost or bring in more sustaining income, by some means, and there is an effect.

Oh my - the same group that complained for years about the terrible things that are being passed on to other generations...didn't they have a ticker in NYC that showed the ever growing debt and fear monger threads here a few years ago...

They now hilariously say:   nevermind the future generations that will suffer by denying reality of how Climate Change will affect them, nah - instead they ironically say that the only concern is a myopic view of the Social Safety Net for themselves     wowzer.

The Republican plan .......... Starve The Beast.

1)  Cut taxes and cut taxes for the wealthiest.

2)  Falsely blame the Debt from those cuts on Social Security and Medicare.

3)  Cut Social Security and Medicare benefits and/or raise the age of eligibility.

The saddest thing is that some suckers fall for that very plan.
