Thanks to Trump / Republicans tariffs the US has the most expensive steel in the world, It's not going to get better.

Might see US companies leave the US to be competitive in the global market.

John Deer is down  too, Cat down 8%,  Deer down 4%, Ford took a beating , they lost a billion dollars.

How is the price of steel a fascist thing???

Because Der Trumper's fascist policies are the reason the price increased 20%. Caterpiller also took a huge hit because of Trump's facist economic program, and in addition to the price of Steel, there's the equally fascist policy for aluminium AND his Trade War with China is doing serious damage to our "just in time" delivery system and THAT is going to begin costing jobs as we lose market share internationally.

By the way - how is affordable health insurance "socialist"?

What "fascist policy" effected the price of steel?

BTW - affordable health insurance is not socialist. Government run "insurance" using wealth redistribution is .

U.S. stocks closed lower for a fifth day, as an afternoon rally from the lowest levels for the S&P 500 since May fell short of pushing benchmark indexes back into positive territory. Treasury yields declined and crude oil tumbled.

The S&P 500 pared to 0.6 percent a loss that took it below 2,700 for the first time since July, while the Nasdaq Composite Index flirted with a correction before paring losses. Defensive sectors from consumer staples to real-estate firms recovered. Verizon and McDonald’s advanced on solid results, while Netflix led gains in tech shares.

Industrial stocks remained under pressure after disappointing results from Caterpillar and 3M added to worries that rising costs will erode profit margins. The Russell 2000 Index erased gains for the year. Energy producers in the S&P 500 sank more than 2 percent. Texas Instruments reported disappointing results after the market closed.

“Today we opened down, basically at technical support at 2,700 on the S&P, 7,000 on the Nasdaq 100, this is kind of a picture-perfect day to buy,” said Michael O’Rourke, JonesTrading’s chief market strategist. “But now the question is how far does this rally get, how far does it go?”

For those retiring this month, those numbers mean nothing! Do liberals automatically sell out when the stock market goes down 2%? If they do, that's the problem. Sit tight and make money long term. Sounds like the liberals market strategy is buy high sell low. If your IRA/401-K is in the entire stock market, don't worry and enjoy life!

I don't know a Single Retiree who wants to Stress about Stocks in Retirement

I don't know any retirees that are sweating their IRA/stocks.

The Whole purpose for Middle Class Investors - is to Invest Wisely during your Income Producing years and then enjoy the fruits of your labor

You DON'T enjoy the fruits of your labor by selling when low.

You Obviously Don't Live in a Middle Class Reality

I actually do. I have my IRA (Vanguard) 60% entire stock market, 40% entire bond market and the RMDs are automatic.

As the song goes, you’ve got to know when to hold them and know when to fold them.

You don't "fold 'em when the market drops.

Retiring is the time

When You do Fold Em - put your Money in U.S. Treasuries, Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities (or TIPS bonds), and laddered CDs, which, in the years to come you can count on them to earn or lose you essentially nada.

Part of your savings should be as you said and the RMDs should be secure also since that IS your spending money. Over the long haul, the stock market beat the heck out of government securities/banks.

To each - his own.
