Have people here forgot the terrible action at AbuGhraid?    When there are people in the military that attempt to cover up those war crimes, what indication is there that the current crop of Generals, etc are not willing to do this again?

Did people sleep through the news

Two Marines, two Army ROTC cadets, an Army physician, a member of the Texas National Guard and one member of the Air Force all belong to an organization called Identity Evropa, which is listed by the Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Poverty Law Center as an extremist group.

For years, Identity Evropa members have used a server on Discord, a group chat app popular among the alt-right, to send messages to one another. Last week the independent media collective Unicorn Riot published the contents of that Discord server in its entirety.

Did people miss the news that the Phillipino Dictator has now joined with Pompeo to say that ICC has no jurisdiction in his country - drug murders by his soldiers.

But then again, we have a guy sleeping in the WH who claims that the number of white nationalists is a very small group.     So chose reality of follow the liar, your choice.

Are you even aware of the purpose of the International Criminal Court and it's history?  Especially in relation to the United States?  Or the purpose of it wanting to enter the United States?  No administration has recognized the authority of the ICC over our laws since it's establishment.  You have a tagline of "Country over party", yet your posts are partisan.

Perhaps you should familize yourself with the history of the ICC before bringing partianism into dicussing it?   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Criminal_Court#History

Their wanting visas has nothing to do with terrorism, but to collect evidence so as to convict Americans for alleged war crimes in Afghanistan.  Out military justice system has already been prosecuting these under the UCMJ.

Country over party indeed!!!!

@TxGrandpa2

Whether they have any jurisdiction or not, how does this affect them getting visas to enter the US? Are they criminals or on the terrorist watch li?

Or is this another instance of trump ignoring our laws?

Sounds similar to southern border agents holding lawyers for immigrants and interrogating them, when they were just crossing the border to consult immigrants on their rights!

Or like taking Brennan’s security clearance away, only to give clearances to jared and ivanka, now having access to our most top secret information!

Not faulting your opinion or view point but I believe that your title is a bit misleading as this political decision is not in any way stating that the President is "Authorizing" the military to commit war crimes. We (yes I was a career soldier) will always hold those personnel who are accused of wrongdoing accountable in military court (I obviously can't speak for those civilian entities it addresses in the article)

I can assure you that as professionals this political decision will not entice our military to now go around committing acts of atrocities without fear of prosecution. Please do not allow the politics to hinder feelings towards the military or feel this should change that opinion.

As a retired career soldier and NCO, I agree with you that we hold our military accountable for atrocities performed in the line of duty.  There have been several notorious examples of this.  Another principle we have held sacred is that we don't allow our military to be held accountable under other nation's laws but under ours.  Of course crimes committed off-duty is subject to the laws of the host nation.

Civilians are subject to the laws of the host nation unless in an official status.

Further I don't believe our military has been placed under the command or flag of foreign nations or wearing the uniform of any nation except our country until Clinton's administration required the wearing of the UN beret during Bosnia peacekeeping.

Go check WW1 and you will find that is not entirely true.

The International Criminal Court never has had any authority in the United States nor over our military.  Clinton's administration signed the Roman Statue establishing the ICC, but it was never ratified.

What does this topic have to do with 'jrbush's wars'?  Hasn't he been out of office for over 8 years and living in Dallas?  What happened to Obama's part in continuing it?  Wasn't he supposed to put an end to our participation in these wars?

Just one of many side effects of having a professional military so understrength they spend 2/3d of their enlistment fighting in one of jrbush's dirty little wars he lied us into then subcontracted all the logictical support to Haliburton. And this all during "Peacetime", since the gutless Congress will not either order it ended OR declare War

Information from the link..

WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States will revoke or deny visas to International Criminal Court personnel seeking to investigate alleged war crimes and other abuses committed by U.S. forces in Afghanistan or elsewhere, and may do the same with those who seek action against Israel, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Friday.

Pompeo, acting on a threat delivered in September by U.S. national security adviser John Bolton, framed the action as necessary to prevent the international body from infringing on U.S. sovereignty by prosecuting American forces or allies for torture or other war crimes.

“We are determined to protect the American and allied military and civilian personnel from living in fear of unjust prosecution for actions taken to defend our great nation,” Pompeo said.

The headline of this thread reads.."Donald just authorized war crimes for US soldiers "

Another made up headline that I see two posters fell for it...very telling of their ability to read.

It might also be noted that in any event the International Criminal Court has no jurisdiction in the United States as we are not signatories to that court.  Trump has nothing to do with that.

"U.S. officials have long regarded the Netherlands-based ICC with hostility, arguing that American courts are capable of handling any allegations against U.S. forces and questioning the motives of an international court."   https://www.apnews.com/08e538e370914f6e8243e237dbde50b5
