Does AARP represent the Democratic Party or Seniors?

I just read how the Democrats have scored a big success as AARP is endorsing the Health Care Bill. If this is true, then this is the final straw for me. I am going to cancel my membership from this organization that is nothing but an extension of the Democratic Party. The Health Care Bill is one more step toward the Socialist state that the Obama administration and Democrats seem determined to implement. This is another $1.2 Trillion added to the debt. Part of the payment of this debt is to come out of Medicare that will of course effect all of us. The debt and higher taxes will then fall on our children, grandchildren and great grand children to service the debt. The annual cost of living increase on SS has been canceled by the Democrats. Where is the uproar from the AARP. You see the leadership of the AARP are big contributors to the Democratic Party and to Obama. The AARP obviously does not represent the interest of Seniors and puts their political affiliation with the Democrats infront of our interest. It does not matter if you are Republican, Democrat, liberal or conservative as we are all going to suffer equally while the AARP does nothing to represent us.

I see AARP has started their Democratic commercials for Utah reprehensive Ben McAdams over the weekend. Has anyone seen an AARP commercial for a Republican?

Hi Richard!  When was the last time Republicans advocated for the best interests of seniors?  Maybe they go hand in hand...

Centrist2010 and John258,

RichardH86234 made the same claims last year.  When I said he was wrong about AARP running ads and asked him who it said was actually paying for the ad, he never responded.  I would bet it is the same thing this year.  Some people don't understand that just because they see a mention of AARP in an ad doesn't mean that AARP is actually running the ad!

If AARP does not support the ad then they should contact the company who created the ad and demand that they remove their name.

A simple google search would have told you what you wanted to know:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 19, 2019 CONTACT: Laura Polacheck, 801-209-5920; lpolacheck@aarp.org AARP Utah Clarifies It Does Not Endorse Candidates or Make Contributions to Political Campaigns or Candidates Midvale, UT—AARP Utah State Director Alan Ormsby released the following statement today in response to the House Majority Forward’s citation of AARP in political advertisements featuring Rep. Ben McAdams: “AARP did not authorize or participate in the production of the advertisement featuring Rep. Ben McAdams. AARP has a proud 34-year history of non-partisan voter engagement and does not endorse or oppose candidates, nor does AARP make contributions to political campaigns or candidates. We encourage Utahns to ask questions so they understand where the candidates stand on important issues and make their own decisions on Election Day.”

I asked you before, who was paying for the ad, but you never bothered to respond.  If they simply mention something like "McAdams backs AARP's positions, or something of that ilk, there is nothing AARP could do to stop it.

Does the ad claim that AARP has paid for and run the ad?

AARP supports anything that makes them money through medical supplemental insurance. If you like insurance companies then you like what AARP offers. The kumbaya stuff/benny's are all fluff and pseudo good will.

It is what it is... neither good nor bad.

You are still talking about something for nothing. How about your leader mob boss trump. He lies on his Tax returns , and his govt. ordered reporting forms. He has always wanted something for nothing and that is behind everything he does. That is proven fact. Look at his daughter. She gets paid twice for the same thing. Trump owns the places he stays, and forces all who are with him and deal with him to stay there also, and even ups the rates to get more more something for nothing.

The rep, and far right are the kings and queens of something for nothing.

All read through this carefully. You see how the far right  are wedded to their Mob Boss Dictator who has killed over 200,000 people this year in the USA, destroyed the economy, is a super spreader of the virus, made every thinking Rep leave the party and vote for Biden, has the medical experts say Trump should be examined because of the way he is acting after taking the virus drugs, mental health experts issued a duty to warn letter on Trump and what they see as his mental condition. We could go on and on. Lets  stop with Trump now the fool to the world leaders including with Putin.

The experts proved correct again.

According to the NY Times, Trump is badly losing the baby boomer vote very badly as compared to 2016.

Seniors are in high risk Covid 19 groups now, and Trumps denial and falsehoods and behavior flies in the face and spits on the grave of the 140,000 people who were over 60 who died of the 212,000 who died nationally and climbing.

I would hope AARP would support the most vulnerable of their membership to ensure protection therin.

If that means not supporting Trump, or the Republicans that enable him, so be it.

AARP supports programs for people over age 65, and looks out for them so if they are supporting Ben that means he supports about 90% of the people who use this thread, and the Rep. does not.

Are you saying that you do not support Senior Programs that help people. People who vote for Rep. say that.

The TRUTH is one if the corporate heads donates HIS PRIVATE MONEY and some employees donate THEIR PRIVATE MONEY, anyone who calls that  donating your fees is pretty dumb. Got to wonder if you think you control what every Employee in every company you buy stuff from 😂  They DO pay lobbyists who work in many ways to get bills that help seniors, if that means helping democrats bills, then good! How any senior can be dumb enough to disagree with them doing what it takes to HELP us is beyond belief. AARP does amazing things for seniors, including offering THE  BEST  Medicare supplement for the lowest income people on SS, like me. they worked out the plan with United.  This plan is Different than non AARP, I spoke to two medicare specialist and reviewd at least 6 other plans. That alone is worth the fee. I’m not ignorant enough to think I have a right to dictate every companies employees PRIVATE use of their money.
Apparently many people are from the comments 🙄 or they just assume every post they read is fact, without researching it. I researched  it and got the non biased facts.

Answer is AARP supports Seniors AND the Democratic Party because the Democrats support Seniors and the Republican Party has worked for 50 years to destroy Social Security AND Medicare and tRump has promised to finish the job if he's re-elected. All Republican Presidents since Ike have tried to do it, tRump is just the first one to admit it in public.

I and a lot of other people must have missed that meeting, I have never heard Trump talk against Social Security. He has always said people worked, paid it in and deserve it and he will always protect social security. The democrats want to give it to illegals along with free medical and education. My family worked their way through college and paid for it. My family kept jobs so they would have health coverage. I don't think our tax dollars should go to those who don't work and that includes everyone who rides the system.

It's truly unfortunate that some people watch the FOX Propaganda Network seven days a week and believe standing up for seniors is somehow the equivalent of being a Democrat.

At least we know the Trump Republican Party is trying to hurt/damage both Social Security and Medicare. One can never accuse the AARP of doing that.

How can anyone not see the destruction being done by the Democrats?

From 19 years old I never expected SS to be around by the time I might need it.  So I made my own provisions.  For anyone who thinks that president Trump is the reason SS is failing is ignorant.

I will not provide a dime to thos AARP organization until they stop supporting the evils that are being pronounced by the Democrats!

Thank you for standing up to the trash that is posted here supporting the Dem destruction! The negative comments directed towards Trump are unwarranted and a farce. My self and many of our friends now see that AARP needs to stay neutral and not support either side. This will clearly effect membership renewal considerations.
