Democrats may not accept the election, re: Atlantic

The progressive publication warned readers on Sunday that Democrats might not be able to concede if President Trump wins reelection, “especially” if he loses the popular vote but gets to remain in the White House. Atlantic contributing writer Shadi Hamid wrote that he doesn’t believe “Trump is a fascist or a dictator in the making” and doesn’t consider America a “failed state,” but he does have one significant concern.

So now it's out in the open. No more peelowsee predictions. Libs finally are coming to grips with reality. There will be no acceptance when sleepy Joe loses.

I really don't think this is going to be a problem.

I don't either.

Joe Biden is assembling a team of top lawyers in anticipation of court challenges to the election process that could ultimately determine who wins the race for the White House.

Biden's presidential campaign says the legal war room will work to ensure that elections are properly administered and votes correctly counted. It will also seek to combat voter suppression at the polls, identify foreign interference and misinformation, and educate voters on the different methods available for casting ballots.

The effort, which the Biden campaign described as the largest election protection program in presidential campaign history, reflects the extent of the preparation underway for an already divisive presidential contest in November that could produce significant, perhaps even decisive, court cases over voter access and the legitimacy of mail ballots.

Another report I read talked of Biden's team being hundreds of lawyers throughout the country giving protection to this election.  This effort does not take into account the multiple current rumpskull election cases wrangling through varied courts.  Once dt is a citizen, only then will 'normal' have a chance again to be just the simple comfort of a day.

The Atlantic?  hmmm ....

Trump and his core are the ones that won't be accepting the election results, mark my words.

@ChasKy53

IMO - that is just as scary.  There has to be a winner and a loser - that's normal.

Regardless, either one will act as politician do -

WHOA !!  Guess the writer definitely thinks we are outside of "normal" times.

from the Atlantic article:

Accepting the things that never should have happened is far more difficult. A certain kind of cognitive dissonance—the gap between what is and what should be—can fuel revolutionary sentiment, and not just in a fluffy, radical-chic kind of way. In such situations, acting outside the political process, including through nonpeaceful means, becomes more attractive, not necessarily out of hope but out of despair.

This distance between what a society should be and the tragedy of what it actually becomes is less of a problem in democracies, because democracies are supposed to be responsive to voters’ demands and grievances. But they aren’t always. The gap will grow larger under a Trump presidency than a Biden one, and this has implications for mass unrest and political violence across American cities. For democracy to work, the losers of elections need to believe that they can win the next time around. Otherwise their incentives to play the spoiler increase. A breakdown of democracy is always a possibility, but the country is more resilient than it may seem, and consolidated democracies seldom break down in any circumstance. That said, this is one of those propositions that is better left untested.

All better go back and reread the support article, and understand it.

What the author is telling all is the fact that if Trump wins the USA will be a total Dictatorship just like NAZI Germany was under Hitler, and that there will be no concession from the loosing side which is fighting for a Democracy. That is true.  You saw it in Germany and their was a period of repression as Hitler got rid of all all who opposed him, as well as some of his supporters who he thought were nuts. He got rid of most of his supporters who he did not want in one night.

The far right finally posted something that is most likely true, but they have no understanding of what the author is telling us. Now you know why Trump can lie to them and they do not understand that.

Exactly. And it's obvious to anyone not in a catatonic state that Trump is laying the groundwork to scream it was a rigged election when it doesn't go his way. Biden isn't the one saying that, Trump is. We'll find out who won, but not until all the votes are counted.

well put as usual Pan. Like the alternative reality thinks Trump will accept getting beaten?!! I don't think so. He has even said himself he doesn't like losing. OOOPS!!!! So lets rig the election! Everyone knows it but the ignnorance and denial of the Trump cult world.
