You claimed that people who immigrated here "were not motivated people or they would have stayed in their home country and made it better" (so do you regret making that statement, huh ed?). Evidently your ancestors were not "motivated people". NO I have no regrets.

We came from Cuba. My mom and dad in their 20s, I was 31/2, my sister was 2. We weren't allowed to take anything of value so we arrived penniless, with no prospects and not able to speak English.

My folks had a baby girl born here. My sisters and I all have BA degrees. One of my sisters has an MA. Yet, although we fled from a Communist dictator with nothing, we're libtards, we want socialism, we're snowflakes. Trump calls us criminal immigrants, they only kinds of immigrants he mentions are criminal immigrants. UInless he's trying to throw people out, then he calls them DACA criminal immigrants. And what's worse, we're refugees, he doesn't seem to care we arrived legally with Green Cards.

If we'd wanted to be socialists it would have been easier to stay in our own country, duh. And no one loves this country more than my family. What would have become of us had the United States not taken us in? It's a scary thought. One of my cousins is a police detective. Another served 6 years in the Navy. Interesting choices for libtard, criminal immigrant, refugee snowflakes.

@Loulit—Thank you for your post, and congratulations on the achieyof your family!

My grandparents had 12 grandchildren—two have Master’s  degrees, 4 have BAs, 2 have  BS degrees.

Of the other four, two own their own businesses, one is in management, and one was a stay at home mom, who now is active politcally. (Thank God, she is a Dem!)

HUGE DRAW ON SOCIETY, right?

Those, like  trump, who spew the hate mongering  rhetoric about free hand outs and criminals are the real drains on society and are GREAT examples of ignorant, uninformed, and mindless toxicity.

Gee, I miss having a real president!

By what you say there were people living in the area your ancestor came to, and they took the land away from them. How many did they kill in doing that.

I agree John,

I guess that your family were the ones that didn't take advantage of coming to America. Congratulations.

I don't know maybe the Mexican peasants were slaves in those days too, can anyone clear that up?

I do know Texas declared independence from Mexico in part, or maybe just  because Mexico was going to end slavery and the slave owners in Texas couldn't have that.

Mexicans were never slaves, in the US, they have been paid as if they were, lol  but I don't think that Pancho Villa would agree with you on the fact that Mexicans were ever slaves.
I am not sure as to the amount of blacks that actually were in Mexico but I have to believe that the slave trade in Mexico was not that big. It was more in the Caribbean than in Mexico or in Latin America.

I imagine that you come from an immigrant family, so,  how come they didn't stay where they came from and made their country better? Were they also looking for a ride at the expense of the ones that were here already?

I am from an immigrant family, I suspect from the Denmark, Iceland, Scotland, Norway region of Europe, my ancestors immigrated long ago, before the Civil War if my grandmother is to believed.

People tell me I look like I'm from Iceland.

I suspect my family came to America for a better life then they had in the place they were born, just like people do today.

Imagine what this country would be like now if people in those days  had the attitude towards immigrants that you do now.

Well some did have that attitude, toward the Chinese, Jews, Catholics,  maybe Mexicans, and Africans and Indigenous people, they were slaves.

I don't know maybe the Mexican peasants were slaves in those days too, can anyone clear that up?
