De Blasio Announces Free Health Care for Illegal Aliens

NYC mayor touted initiative for sanctuary city during gov't shutdown over border wall funding, immigration enforcement.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) announced Tuesday that the city would roll out an unprecedented initiative offering free health care to all residents — including illegal immigrants.

New York City is a sanctuary city that defies U.S. immigration enforcement laws, protects illegal immigrants from deportation, and limits local cooperation with federal enforcement officers.

And now de Blasio plans to further embrace illegal immigrants by providing them with free health care on the taxpayers’ dime.

“Health care is a right, not a privilege reserved for those who can afford it,” de Blasio said in a statement on Tuesday.

“While the federal government works to gut health care for millions of Americans, New York City is leading the way by guaranteeing that every New Yorker has access to quality, comprehensive access to care, regardless of immigration status or their ability to pay,” de Blasio added.

The program, NYC Care, will launch this summer in the Bronx.

By 2021, all New Yorkers in the city’s five boroughs will have access to free health care. The plan will cost “at least $100 million annually at full scale,” the press release noted.

“Health care isn’t just a right in theory, it must be a right in practice. Today I’m announcing a plan to guarantee health care for all New Yorkers. Through our own public option and a new program called NYC Care, we’ll ensure the first stop for people isn’t the emergency room,” de Blasio tweeted on Tuesday.

He also said that no new taxes would be issued to pay for the plan, noting that “we’re going to pay for” this “through our public health care system because we’re making it a priority.”

“This has never been done before in this country, in this kind of comprehensive way. It’s going to be for the first time a guarantee of health care. We’re going to guarantee health care for New Yorkers who need it,” de Blasio said.

“We also have a way to provide direct health care to a lot of neighbors who happen to be undocumented — they’re still part of our community, they need health care, their families need health care,” de Blasio added.

Why do Republicans claim "its the law" when poor people are taking it in the shorts but when Trump and his team are lying to Congress, meeting with Russians, and taking profits from foreign powers it is just the way of the world?

Here's a great example of Trump Cult members living in an alternate reality,

"A parent that makes the decision to include a child hiking across dangerous terrain is clearly Child Endangerment.  Most level headed people know this."

Unbelivable! The reason parents endure walking hundreds of miles is to save their children from gang violence, rape, and possibly death. Nobody in their right mind would put their family through something like that unless their situation is life threatening.

Because of our past policy of allowing people to use children as "get in free" cards, children are being endangered. Nothing "unbelievable" (or "Unbelivable") about that. And certainly nothing mult-colored about that.

I just do not understand why the RWNJs are so nuts because undocumented/illegal residents finally have a chance to get their kid's healthcare.  Weren't the two child deaths in CBP detention enough?  How many human sacrifices do you guys want?

Here in America, when parents put their children into a very dangerous situation, law enforcement arrests them for Child Endangerment.  Then our legal system prosecute those parents and if convicted the children are removed from the parents and placed in the custody of the state.  We are a nation of laws that govern our citizens.  Anyone that attempts to enter our country illegally are considered criminals.  Why is this concept beyond your comprehension?

And....while we have the child in governmental custody, the government is responsoble for the child’s welfare. It provides health care, food, shelter, education. 100%.  Of something goes wrong, it’s the government’s fault.

It is the responsibility of the medical professionals to do all they can but requiring miracles is going a bit far. Those kids were killed by the actions of the parent(s).

Well, they were deathly ill when they crossed the border, they were brought by their parent(s). Those are facts. I have seen no facts indicating that the medical professionals did anything wrong.

Mostly because the "crime" has no "victim", committing it has provided a net benefit to our Nation for the past 240 years, and in terms of National Security, enforcing it is harmful, not helpful.

From 1776 until the late 1990's millions of people went back and forth across the border to harvest our crops. Then to pretend to be concerned about "border security" jrbush "closed the border', and about 3.3 million of those seasonal migrants decided to stay in this country and send their paychecks back home.

Another 6.5 million came here legally and just overstayed their Visas, and a shade over a million came for jobs that Americans had advertised in the immigrant's local news media back home.

Reagan tried to solve the problem by giving green cards to the folks here without papers and tried to go after the ones offering the jobs, but GOPers refused to arrest other GOPers who were getting richer by exploiting the immigrants.

Since GOPers kept the jobs available, more people came here TO WORK, and the notion that somehow they "cost us money" is absurd because over half of them pay taxes they cannot file for a refund and FICA they can never collect on. The ones who complain about having immigrant kids in their schools do NOT complain about the huge profits they reap from the inexpensive and very productive labor their community businesses receive and ignore the fact those immigrant families are LESS likely to commit a crime than their native born neighbors.

The most ignorant claim from Republicans is that the immigrants TAKE AMERICAN'S JOBS. This ignores the fact it is the BOSS who GIVES the immigrant the job, the BOSS who sends other jobs to Commie slaves in Asia and it is the BOSS who decided to NOT give his American worker a real raise since 1970.

The ignorant claim is what scares the GOPerLords - if the GOPer base were to actually THINK, they would realize it was the Republican Establishment who was screwing them over and NOT immigrants. Seems the base had an inkling this was the case, and that's why they voted for Der Trumper. Its obvious Trump has no intention of making things better for workers, so he needs The Gross Wall of Trump to keep his base enraged about IMMIGRANTS, and as long as he can keep that rage going (by emphasizing the immigrants don't have the documents they need to be here legally) the GOPerLords don't have to worry about giving Americans a pay raise and can continue to reduce benefits and retirement and healthcare, robbing the 99% of the reward for their improved productivity to further enrich the already rich.

Why is it beyond your comprehension that YOU are being had BY THE BOSS, NOT THE IMMIGRANT?

Being taken into custody by American law enforcement should not have to be considered dangerous to small children.

Repubicans claim it's the parents' fault for thinking the Government of the United States would provide better protection for children than the street gangs they came here to escape.

But with Republicans in charge of Government operations, ripping children and infants from their mothers arms, putting them in cages, having them sleep on concrete floors of abandoned shopping malls with mylar "space blankets" for comfort and warmth and letting them die for lack of medical attention is perfectly acceptable because after all, Republicans did not try and save the children by bringing them HERE.

Very dramatic but no child was "ripped from their mother's arm", no child was allowed to die for lack of care, they are placed in confinement because they certainly cannot be turned loose to wander the streets. And why would Republicans go wandering around Latin America looking for kids to bring HERE?

This is an issue that is complex and requires serious thought, not hate filled drama.

Where did you see "nuts"?

As to the dead kids, it is a shame that their parents endangered their lives that way because of our past policies where people could use children as tools to "get out of jail free" when trying to "skip the line" applying for entry..

Exactly. It benefits business to have illegal immigrants. Which is why the feds don’t enforce laws 100% like they should.

After  reading all the posts and also reading what the Ca, Governor wanst  to do. I am not sure that I happen to agree with what it being said.

Ifeels to me that many now are acting like Trump.

Not using common sense, and going oberboard.   We all need to recognize the Rule of Law and not divert from it.

We have blame Trump for doing that , and now we seem to fall on the same premise?

Be careful. Democrats. that may backfire.

There is the fact that we all need health care. but we also need to recognize that people that are not in this country legally should not have the same benefits as the immigrants that do.

If we go overboard on this concept we wil be doing what Trump is doing now. NOt   applying  the Rule of Law.

A country witn no laws disregarding or Party will not be a successful country.
There is the inmediate need to fix the immigration issue. and that most include all of the undocumented people in this country now.

the ones that have overstayed their visas, the stufdents that have dropped out., the workerr with the work visas that have expired, and the people in the southern border that want to come it to work and other to scape violence.

That should take precedent before we start with thrwoing the baby and the bassinet. we need to keep calm, and think.

De Blasio announced several proposals which seem to follow the way Norway structures its society and the only thing the right sees is that the occasional undocumented immigrant might get some help too?

He said they would provide health care to anyone who showed up.  How is that different from what happens in emergency rooms?

Conservatives are a weird bunch.

Does not a State have a right to serve it's own constitutents?    Without the whining and fearmongering - access to affordable healthcare for everything  is a very good thing.      What some won't want is anything that appears to threaten their own self-worth, because if everyone has access to affordable healthcare, that is one less thing that they can say, See, I'm better than "those people".

Reminder:  an undocumented immigrant is a world class journalist, they win awards and sell millions of books...so the scream ( from Breitbart) makes the assumption that all undocumented immigrants are poor, disheveled individuals...   The screamers are pushing an stereotype that is invalid.

PRO-LIFE is Affordable Healthcare for ALL .

Well  it seems that  Trump's  inability to govern, is now emboldening    very liberal concepts.  and I don't think that is  the right approach to the Health Care Issue.

We need to become intelligent and put thru a real comprehensive immigration policies. and stop the anger and lack of common sense that is growing out of frustration for this Administration.

We all need to keep our heads in  our place and see how we can assure that government really governs.

There is no doubt that Trumps needs to go. one way or another. Things are getting too much out of hand and that will never be  good for the country.

Yes. This is a fascinating approach. No more taxes needed to do it, but instead making use of how they direct people through the existing public health system. I am very interested in learning  more.

Exactly. But what would they have to say that's worth reading if they don't cherry pick and then twist a topic?
