In the upcoming Tax Reform, tax cuts are supposed to be revenue neutral. We'll see how that works out. Will Hurricane Harvey costs be included in this year's budget? Or will that be added separately? Somehow I think we will be raising the debt ceiling again next year, with more cuts to essential programs.

I heard that we have more military bases around the world than there are countries. We spend a fortune on our "defense", which should often times be referred to as our military "offense".

It seems I can't read the news these days without reading yhat the U.S. is threatening some country with economic sanctions or military action.

"Will the tragedy of Hurricane Harvey teach us the lessons that so many politicians and impulsive voters have been denying for so long?
America must come home: we must end the Empire of Militarism and of playing the role of policeman of the planet. Both of these habitual roles are backfiring and depleting trillions of taxpayer dollars that could be better used toward rebuilding our country’s infrastructure, strengthening our catastrophe-response networks and preparing for the coming megastorms like Hurricane Harvey. A projected trillion dollars being spent by Obama, and now Trump, just to upgrade nuclear weapons will only spur another arms race with Russia and China.
Politicians must stop overstuffing a bloated military budget and leaving our country fiscally unprepared to handle mass epidemics and mass megastorms." - Ralph Nader

This video is from 2008. The cost has gone up. Add Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, Yemen...

I had wondered if it might be time for another JFK moment in his 22 Oct 1962 address to the Nation regarding the missiles in Cuba, but alais, jrbush and Der Trumper have destroyed the moral high ground Kennedy and the US once occupied. But after listening to his address, don't think we can go there again.

Thanks to Nixon's "opening China to trade", our Oligarchs have gotten rich sending Commie China our best paying manufacturing jobs, and as a condition of operating in China, they also sent the technology behind their Chinese production. As a result, we have Red China with over 400 ICBMs, more than enough to strik every American city with a population over 100,000.

Further, unlike Cuba, North Korea developed the missiles and the Warheads that threaten our allies and ourselves. The fact they had assistance from Red China is really hard to turn into a JFK condemnation of the Soviet Union when it was American Oligarchs who gave the technology to Red China.

Seems Lenin may have gotten one thing right: "We will hang the last Capitalist with the rope his greed compels him to sell us."

Smart move for them. I've believed, for a long time, that the U.S. is slowly declining, in myriad ways, and the Chinese (not the Russians), would eventually be the world leaders. But I may have underestimated the Russians.

Another generation, and the U.S. will be the 2nd world power, possibly even the 3rd.

This China thing reminds me of those Avis ads...

At one time the ad read "We try harder...or else."

President Trump threatened to halt trade with China after Pyongyang conducted an alarmingly powerful nuclear test.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told Fox News Sunday he was working on a new sanctions package.

Trump tweeted "The United States is considering, in addition to other options, stopping all trade with any country doing business with North Korea."

Complicating U.S. relations with South Korea is a report by The Washington Post that Trump had instructed advisers to prepare to withdraw from a free-trade agreement with South Korea. The Post said Mattis and national security adviser H.R. McMaster were among the high-ranking officials opposing the plan.

I don't really think that the US debt began with this election.  Do you?

You're right. Our deficit problem didn't begin the day Trump was sworn in.

Debt to GDP....

Yeah....he just might be.  And the liklihood is that NOBODY will gain IF he does....OR if he doesn't, for that matter.  The only way I can see for this to be resolved is to have the World Community do it.  That would be a truly United Nations thing....think that could happen?  What do you suppose will happen IF the US really does have 'to go it alone'?  Won't be pretty....won't be many winners 'out there'. Could be there won't be much left worth winning.  Yeah....that's crazy all right.  MAD you might say.  You got any good ideas on how to defuse this, considering the key players?...sure could use them.
