Harvard alum Mark Riddell apologizes for taking board tests for students

"I am profoundly sorry for the damage I have done and grief I have caused those as a result of my needless actions," suspect Mark Riddell said.

The 36-year-old Harvard alum, paid to secretly take college board test for children of hard-driving parents, apologized Wednesday for his role in the burgeoning scandal.

"I want to communicate to everyone that I am profoundly sorry for the damage I have done and grief I have caused those as a result of my needless actions," Mark Riddell, a Palmetto, Florida resident, said in a statement released by his attorney.

YEAH SORRY YOU GOT CAUGHT - YOU HAD A NICE LITTLE CAPITALISM INSPIRED - COTTAGE INDUSTRY GOING ALONG GREAT THERE MARK

Riddell is facing two criminal counts for conspiracy to commit mail fraud and money laundering, federal prosecutors in Boston.

Riddell, 2004 Harvard graduate and a four-year tennis letter winner, is a key figure in a massive college-admissions probe dubbed Operation Varsity Blues.

The federal probe announced on Tuesday ensnared dozens of parents who allegedly paid millions of dollars to falsify college applications and get their kids into elite universities.

"I understand how my actions contributed to a loss of trust in the college admissions process," Riddell said. "I assume full responsibility for what I have done."

Riddell took SAT and ACT exams for kids between 2012 and this past February, according to a criminal complaint.

He was paid $10,000 per test, prosecutors said.

Yup you just gotta LOVE CAPITALISM - ESPECIALLY WHAT US CRONY CAPITALISM HAS BECOME - WHAT A GREAT SYSTEM

College cheating ringleader says he helped more than 750 families with admissions scheme

The ringleader behind a $25 million college admission scam that implicated dozens of people, including Hollywood actresses Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman, said he has worked with more than 750 families.

William Rick Singer, who pleaded guilty Tuesday in a Boston federal court to racketeering, money laundering, conspiracy and obstruction of justice charges, said in a phone conversation recorded by the FBI that he helps "the wealthiest families in the U.S. get their kids into school."

Singer said he facilitated 761 "side doors" to admission.

"They want guarantees, they want this thing done. They don't want me messing around with this thing," he said, according to court documents unsealed Tuesday. "And so they want in at certain schools."

According to the investigators, parents paid Singer millions to boost their kids' chances of getting into schools such as Yale University, Stanford University and Georgetown University by paying people to take tests for their children, bribing test administrators to allow that to happen, and bribing college coaches to identify the applicants as athletes.

This report DEFINITELY needs considerable follow-up. Why? Because if little Tripper and Bunny only gained admission because of massive fraud, they are NOT going to be able to make it past the first semester without similar fraud involving their grades....UNLESS those "elite" schools are actively working to prevent those they admit from flunking out - figuring the poor performance MUST be a temporary aberration in the student's behavior which will disappear next semester. But since the Profs who notice the sub-standard performance won't see that student ever again, once admitted, the snowflake is pretty much assured graduating with a "Gentleman's C", while making those all-important social contacts with the next generation Captains of Industry and Finance.

Sad to say, but that "once you're in, YOU'RE IN" mindset among the Ivies goes all the way back to at least the early 1960's - alums just don't talk about it much, and folks on the outside don't even know its happening.

Add this to the list of ways the Uberrich "prepare" their kids for the future. They know little Tripper and Bunny are too self absorbed and dumb to actually benefit from the classroom instruction, BUT THEY WILL MEET ALL THE RIGHT PEOPLE.

A new study on grade inflation shows that it occurred in schools attended by more affluent students but not in schools attended by less affluent ones.

Affluent students have major advantages when it comes to K-12 education:

Among them, better teachers, more access to advanced courses, resources for counselors and a variety of extracurricular activities, which when combined can lead to higher high school graduation and college-going rates than their poorer peers.

Now those wealthy students can add to that list another advantage their less affluent peers don't receive: grade inflation.

A new study on grade inflation published Wednesday shows that schools attended by more affluent students saw less rigorous grading than schools attended by less affluent ones. While median grade point averages increased in both school types between 2005 and 2016, it increased more in the more affluent schools.

"In other words, it's gotten easier to get a good grade in more affluent schools, but not in less affluent ones," says Seth Gershensen, associate professor at American University who conducted the research and authored the report. "The GPA Gap has widened."
