Can You Define Socialism?

How many socialism supporters would change their minds completely once they learned what socialism and capitalism actually are? Watch to see what happened when they talked to Will Witt!

Seems pretty cut and dried to me -

Socialism - a political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.

Capitalism - an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state.

Social Justice:  Social justice is the capacity to organize with others to accomplish ends that benefit the whole community. If people are to live free of state control, they must possess this new virtue of cooperation and association.   These are the programs of Social Security & Medicare because these are designed for everybody that has earned income and they (and their employer) pay into the programs for benefit later on.

Many other programs are helping hand programs; thus they have personal eligibility requirements - they aren't actually meant for the long term but to help people; help lift them up from some time in their life when there is difficulty.

@GailL1

To me, the definitions that you posted are overall pretty good. In that, I would say it might be that our current system is a combination of all three...subject to debate, I’m sure!

I'm not sure this "Defines Socialism" but...i'm tryin'. 😁

Capitalism vs. socialism. And the winner is …

Medicare-for-all, free college tuition, guaranteed minimum income … if you listen to the far left in American politics today, socialism is bliss, and capitalism is another word for thievery. How wrong they are.

Capitalism and free markets not only made America the greatest country in the world, they are the only way we can stay great -- and they are the only way the rest of the world will enjoy a higher standard of living.

Capitalism works. If you think socialism does too, take a look at North Korea, a socialist nation in which half the population lives in extreme poverty and as many as 120,000 people rot in political prisons. Or Cuba, where socialist policies have people standing in line for hours to buy basic groceries and the government recently started rationing staples like eggs, rice and beans.

The morality and strength of capitalism (or free enterprise, free markets, whatever term you choose for the U.S. economic system) is that it allows people to succeed by meeting the needs and wants of others. People in a capitalist society are constantly trying to come up with ways to make everyone's lives better. The failures critics blame on capitalism are caused by the mistakes of government, not an economic system that rewards hard work and innovation.

Some polls have shown that almost half of young Americans think they would be happier living under socialism. For their sake, let’s hope our future elected leaders never give them the chance to find out.

You can go look that up just as I did. AZ right now is the far right. Misery and death for as many as possible. Your Gov. is typical and follows the main leader Dictator Trump 100%. Lets hope AZ becomes once again a State of caring people who lookout for each other, and a start on that would be to reject Trump, and the Gov. and all his followers.

A deviation and straw man argument as nobody is challenging capitalism.

A capitalistic economy can exist in a government with social programs ..... as America is now doing!

Opposing social programs while benefiting from them makes no sense.

In Trump World, facts mean nothing. If Fox tells their viewers something, they automatically accept and believe it. Independent research? That never happens in Trump World.

Sunluvingal can upload all the cartoons she finds, but that will never change the TRUTH. And the truth is obvious to all thinking people, America is a country that depends heavily upon Socialism and that's been true since the 1930s.

MAJOR SOCIALIST PROGRAMS IN AMERICA

  • MEDICARE
  • SOCIAL SECURITY
  • MEDICAID
  • EMERGENCY ROOM TREATMENT for the uninsured
  • TRUMP'S MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR BAILOUT OF FARMERS

And the liberal dems (or "we the people") will pay for this how?  Hmmmm...nope still don't like it. 🤣🤣

And THAT'S just one of the many reasons i will vote Trump 2020!!

While Republicans like to fear-monger about the boogeyman "threat" of socialism.  I'm far more concerned about Trump's very upfront moves to push America into fascism.

Can you define fascism?  I can.   Simply, here goes:

Fascism is a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism.

Sound familiar?

Leftists fail to understand the difference between socialism and pensions

Why do liberals think Social Security and pensions are socialism?  For the same reason they think being a business owner taking a higher salary than employees is greed.  Liberals do not understand the entire system of how money works.  They see people getting money and they think redistribution of money works and anyone who gets more is greedy.

This is a very basic lesson in understanding these.  It consists of salaries, pension contributions, taxes, and eligibility.  The saying, ‘Can’t see the forest for the trees,’ describes liberal mentality perfectly for failing to understand the big picture and all its parts.

Looks like you have a poor and wrong idea of social security and pensions.

Persons working in employment covered by Social Security are subject to the FICA payroll tax. Like all taxes it is mandatory and never been voluntary. Because it is a gov. regulation you can call it Socialism!

Public sector employees with a pension option contribute 5% of each paycheck to their pension. Employer contribute 7%. Again, as it is mandatory if enrolled in the pension plan, you can call it "socialism".

In the private sector, employers contribute 8% and employees do not contribute. You can say it is not "socialism" because there is no gov. mandate involved. However, the problem is private sector can terminate pension payments at anytime. Capitalism?

You better read your support article because it proves one thing. The person writing it has no understanding of the subject. His pension plan is a govt plan for govt employees, and funded the same way most  all pension plans are private and govt. He points that out but does not understand what he points out.  You better re do your tag line because you prove it wrong all the time. Every thinking person will have a great laugh at your support article. You say you are learning a lot well I hate to be the barer of bad news for you, but they way you used this support article says you are not.

My pension plan was not funded by contributions from me. It was 100% funded by the Corp I worked for, and was based on time employed. Now using your support article and all the wisdom in it explain where it fits into what you are saying.

A personal opinion from a highly biased right wing blog site does not define SOCIAL Security.

SOCIAL Security is a SOCIAL government run program .... just like Medicare which you conveniently evaded!

Your cartoon really tells all as it is your answer to the question. You live in a socialist country now, and have since you were born the same as I have. The 2 programs you were asked about are a form of socialism. You live near a man made lake and use it. That lake is a form of socialism. The electric power you use is created by another form of socialism. The roads you drive on everyday are another form of it.

There are parts of socialism I like and parts I dislike based on taking the time to learn the subject. Join me in that.

It appears that you need to come out of hiding.

During Bush era Big banks and big businesses were bailed out by our tax money while many home owners lost their homes. Is that capitalism or socialism?

Trump is dishing out billions of tax payer dollars to farmers who's harvest is not being bought by China because of Trumps stupid trade policy changes.

Is that capitalism or socialism?
