Money doesn`t seem to a problem for them and our region seems to be building or converting commercial buildings into new medical facillities every day. My general provider Doctor caters to seniors on medicare. Not sure why but probably because claims  are easier to get through Medicare and/or he doesn`t want his senior patients to be exposed to all the children illinesses that they pick up at school.  Medicare for kids penalizes seniors  who has been paying into medicare for decades.

I'm glad much of this is state-driven. And not federal. Maryland is preparing. Trump hasn't got a clue.  It's one of those things where money will get spent to be sufficiently ready, and in a way, I hope it's tax money wasted hoping no real outbreak occurs.

Hate on government and taxes all you want.  I feel very confident my state has the brains and the resources to deal with whatever comes our way.

Any President's history will be written by how well they do with leading Our Country thru a crisis...we have spoken of this often, especially for trump...what will he do when a real crisis develops?

We are probably at that juncture now...

how is trump doing?..."F and Ds" across the board... we do not reward incompetence! What is really sad is that once again, trump's incompetence will cost people their lives, and that is not acceptable or forgivable!

Omigod!  How dare those poor sick, injured, and dying families impinge on our 'quality time' with our doctors?!

Seriously?! 😒  Sounds a little elitist to me.

DanielA:  Coronovirus is much like a flu that dangerous to people who are lacking with immunity problems. Usually the elderly and young. Many people survive it. These "flu-like" viruses happen every year. There will most likely be another one next year. People are creating their own panic.

Seasonal flu infects 45M americans each year with a death rate of 0.1%. Coronavirus has a death rate of 2%. Do the math, then tell us how we're creating our own panic.

Everything is not ok Mr. President!

Good article, @Tom5678 .  The flippant response from IMPOTUS astounds me.  But, of course, it's reelection time.  How dare a crisis hit now and mess with the stock market?!

An interesting comparison in the article how past presidents stepped up and brought the nation together during times of crises.

Past presidents have used moments of national emergency to bring the country together and project the image of a strong commander in chief, like George Bush following the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks or Barack Obama when Hurricane Sandy hit days before his re-election. But Trump has shown an unwillingness to do so when past opportunities have presented themselves, like with Hurricane Maria.

Geez, Bush's approval rate soared after 9/11.  However, IMPOTUS succeeds in being divisive and he blames the media for spooking the nation.  I don't think he is showing strong leadership abilities at all, not when his own administration scientists are disagreeing with his assessments and IMPOTUS continues to send out conflicting messages to the nation.  WTF.

Now Trump will likely fire all those scientists for being loyal to their profession and country instead of him.

More info concerning development of a vaccine. The article reads in part . . .

The bulk of the research was carried out by the study’s co-first authors, Ph.D. student Daniel Wrapp and research associate Nianshuang Wang, both at UT Austin.

Just two weeks after receiving the genome sequence of the virus from Chinese researchers, the team had designed and produced samples of their stabilized spike protein. It took about 12 more days to reconstruct the 3D atomic scale map, called a molecular structure, of the spike protein and submit a manuscript to Science, which expedited its peer review process. The many steps involved in this process would typically take months to accomplish.

Critical to the success was state-of-the-art technology known as cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-EM) in UT Austin’s new Sauer Laboratory for Structural Biology. Cryo-EM allows researchers to make atomic-scale 3D models of cellular structures, molecules and viruses.

“We ended up being the first ones in part due to the infrastructure at the Sauer Lab,” McLellan said. “It highlights the importance of funding basic research facilities.”

If someone does not have insurance or healthcare coverage, and a regular doctor to see, if this virus does spread how will it overwhelm the ER system and what will the associated costs be.
Especially considering that some will go directly there first, if that is their only option.
Also, considering that even those with some coverage might go there as their first option. Either way ER's would be overwhelmed potentially.
Precautions from our Government would be good, but have the Agencies been downgraded to a point of not being able to function properly?

Yes they have .....

As one example ...... before Trump's multiple funding cuts to the CDC, the CDC had funding to be proactive and send people to the outbreak areas to study the disease causing the outbreak. The CDC could not perform this vital action in the case of the Corona virus due to Trump's repeated funding cuts.

What concerns me most at this point is the US has only 12 laboratories from more than 100 that are able to test for the virus....and....the CDC states testing only if fever, cough.  This will not work as a person can carry the virus and be asymptomatic for 2 weeks or longer.

CDC has news that a vaccine will begin testing in about 6 weeks.  I am not entirely confident/trusting in that long process.
